I love trees. I get a good feeling around trees. I also like lumber and harvesting trees. The trees in my yard are my friends as I planted them bare root. I'd never cut them down.
Nice vid. I was in London last fall and there were many of those London Plane Trees throughout the streets... They grew very large and beautiful throughout the city.
I have a Butternut tree. I think I wrote about this before. The Crown limbs had died, and it was looking sickly. I talked to the tree. Told the tree not to die and that I appreciated it. It's looks much better. The real reason for this comment is that there was a powerful storm here a couple and it broke off all the dead limbs. I salvaged the limbs and planned them on my table saw. Got some good slats, even though the limbs had been weathered for a few years. Butternut is a hardwood and related to Walnut. The color Butternut is very light. The grain could be interesting.
My hometown Arboretum is nearly in a straight line to your Arboretum. Draw a line from Hoyt Arboretum on a map and go East for 3000 miles and you end up in the backyard of Dominion Arboretum which is pretty cool! The crow on the map flew from your backyard to mine.
The London trees bark reminds me of Sycamore. In my city of Ottawa we have the Dominion Arboretum which has a huge collection of trees and shrubs including ones that normally dont grow this far north like Pecans and paw paw fruit trees. Its an amazing place to have a picnic. Interestingly my city is on the same parallel as Portland at 45 degrees
We call the london plane tree "Platane" in germany. They are often used as avenue trees, as they are very robust and grow very strong when you give them a cut to be modulated. I have some in my area that are absolutely huge.
