This was the first song I heard by Phish by a local band when I was a freshman in high school at a senior graduation party. Been a fan ever since I heard them for the very first time. Also the first time I tripped and I was 14 it literally changed my life forever. I was lucky to be exposed to so much at a young age
Wow. The textures and sounds that Trey is getting out of the new rig really make the first part of this monster jam. If you're a DWD fan, this is a great listen.
There is nothing like getting lost in a Phish jam. I like how they take the music different places, you never know where its going, but you like the end destination. Thanx for posting this.
I'm a metalhead85deadhead90. I used to tell people my two favorite bands were the Dead and Slayer. I told this once to a stoner surf brah on Venice Beach in 1991 and he said, "Whoa you like the fastest band and the slowest band." LOL

I dig a lot of the new effects trey is using, and the new leslie setup, wish the komet amp would go. Would love to hear the mark iii come back, or some vintage fenders for that smooth sound. Vintage vibroverb would be awesome I bet. Either way, great playing, greatest band.
I’m not sure about Trey’s Komet amps. Not that they aren’t spectacular Trainwreck clones but I don’t know if that sound is right for Phish. I like the Mark III sound better. But maybe I’m just old school. Tough to beat the 90’s sound. IMO. Please don’t hate me.
I don’t hate you. Guitarist and tone hound here who started seeing phish in 1991. I also prefer treys mark iii tone...but I do like the Komet too. Something has to change to keep it interesting for them ya know. The Leslie is back and prominent too. And Phish is much more of a arena rock band than they were in the early 90s - the Komet tone suits that well imo. I won’t say suits it better...but suits it well..
BTW, I blame the Komet but it could be some of the notes choices as well. I'm not hearing well thought out passages - I used to feel like Trey sang us a story with his lines. They seem to break down too early, they're not reaching the apex. I'm probably just old - my first show was in '93 Roseland Ballroom in NYC. :-) To be clear, I love this band and always will. Evolution is part of the experience.
I'm really enjoying Trey's new tone. The dynamic makes for a more pleasant experience. In contrast I find much of the 90's material to be somewhat static sounding and more fatiguing to my ears. It's not that one I am passing value judgement, I'm just stating a preference for a physical tone.
Down with disease Three weeks in my bed Trying to stop these demons that keep dancing in my head Down with disease Up before the dawn A thousand barefoot children outside dancing on my lawn, and I keep Waiting for the time when I can finally say That this has all been wonderful but now I’m on my way But when I think it’s time to leave it all behind I try to find a way but there’s nothing I can say to make it stop Down with disease and the jungles in my mind They’re climbing up my waterfalls and swingin’ on my vines So I try to hear the music but I’m always losing time ‘Cause they’re stepping on my rhythm and they’re stealin’ all my lines Stealin’ all my lines and I keep Waiting for the time when I can finally say That this has all been wonderful but now I’m on my way But when I think it’s time to leave it all behind I try to find a way but there’s nothing I can say to make it stop
