26 years ago today. Night 2 of 3 in Barcelona, and 7 of 8 of the tour, not counting the Fyn set. This version of Phish's always excellent Los Lobos cover is a bit edited, but the footage from the Bittersweet Motel movie (2000 - 82 minutes - five bags of popcorn) is exceptional. Took me a minute to verify that this is the 7/9/98 Circus, and the editing made it slightly tricky. The solo in this film is the second half of the entire solo played at the show.
Funnily enough I remember seeing Fishman on the street after the first night of Prague (7/5/98), which was absinthe night for many fans, including myself, and also for the band we would later find out. This is very likely the night before he is woken up at 2 p.m. in the Prague Hilton. He was running after a girl or two outside of a bar called Joe's Garzaz, or something similar and he seemed pretty lit and jolly. Minutes later I walked across the St. Charles Bridge with Mike Gordon and talked about The Big Lebowski, though I had it momentarily confused with Jackie Brown and hadn't even seen it yet. So I guess I had no frame of reference. Conversations with Mike are always interesting though.
