i love courtney and phoebe so much as individual artist but holy fuck, their distinctive voices harmonize SO NICELY TOGETHER! i really hope they collab again.
2:52 is a perfect moment. CB plays a beautiful loose solo and then looks up to see/hear if PB is ready to come in. PB is perfectly on time and sounding smoky and CB just smiles like a Buddha.
@@carlyork6024 I didn't say she's better or worse than Dave Rawlings. I'm a big fan of Courtney's and I often hear praise about her lyrics but just thought here her playing is absolutely on point (especially as she's the sole instrumentalist)
I always dug her playing, she is one of a kind, hell I swore she was in some alternate tuning when I first heard her on kexp... Turns out she just didn't... Tune... But she has this really cool grunge folk mixed with a driving rhythmic pulse... But wtf this is probably the very first time I have ever seen her use a pick!
I'm already a huge Phoebe fan but just hearing Courtney Barnett's voice for the first time here. She has a great voice and I really wish she did more music like this.
Even though this song was written before internet streaming, people stopped paying for music, and musicians' were forced to give it all away for free, this is the song I think of when I think of how musicians are not compensated fairly for their art. I would PAY for this version of this song if you had it as a digital download. Awesome!
Well, that's not totally accurate. Gillian wrote it in 2000-2001 at a time when Napster was around and people were pirating music for free, so, yes, it was before streaming, but it wasn't before people stopped paying for music. Gillian wrote the song because of services like Napster.
@@stephenclarkMr the remark is bizarre since it implies there is such a thing as 'unaccented' English. I'm sure we'll have Martian accented English one day if Elon has his way...and he has a South African accent...
Man that is so good. Love Courtney's stripped down guitar sound and the two great voices taking turns with the lyrics. Something about Gillian's songs brings up emotion so deeply, I am so very moved. Thank you very much.
I am this month discovering Ms. Bridger. This is a perfect song. I had been done already on the Barnett Express, but this thing, this song.. something special. Southpaws Unite! Cheers to legit great songwriting. 🥂
I'm a simple man, I see Courtney and Phoebe together and I click. These two are great, and playing a Gillian Welch tune no less. Love to hear Courtney's guitar playing stripped back, she's a really underrated guitar player in my book. And Phoebe has the most mesmerising voice. Love it x
I think she has her capo on the fourth fret, does a slidey double stop thing every so often and then goes into A minor, C major, G major and then D major...
This is amazing! It sounds exactly like everything else Courtney Barnett has done and I don't know who that other girl is. I love CB but she seems to be covering every song she's already done.
The real take away here is Gillian Welch...if you don’t know her music you HAVE to do your soul a favor. In my mind she is a superstar unfortunately in the time we have kids like these that have more success for being posers. Such is life, i look forward to the next.
Tom Fair yes they are all beautiful artists but i do not mean “posers” in a derogatory way. Its not the new generations fault its what capitalism has turn our society into. Too much.
Breathe, dude. Aesthetically this cover is gorgeous. And both of these women write beautiful songs of their own. This is simply a tribute and an excellent one, at that. The harmonies absolutely kill me. Mostly everything can be boiled down to capitalism’s downfalls, yes, but god let us enjoy a good thing when we hear it. Everything has always been a cover of a cover of a cover anyway, capitalism or not. Don’t let economics poison every single aspect of your life...
