The fact that Phoebe's monologue where she says: "Back in the day, horny women were to be feared, and now they're given Emmys" is running for an Emmy is just amazing.
@@chickenfoot2423 yeah nah, twitter feminists would just assume that he was a creep. the things that are being said about andrew scott by some women are creepy af. like let’s be real here, they just don‘t seem creepy because he‘s a guy and it‘s women that are saying these things. i know that phoebe is a good person and that andrew personally doesn‘t mind these things being said about him but there is a blatant double standard here.
For a woman who has built her career on being awkward it's incredible that this is the first ever SNL monologue I have ever seen without a single awkward moment.
She killed it. But even with her amazing confidence and undeniable talent, I love it that you can tell she's just a touch nervous - it shows humility. Talent and humility at the same time? What a great combo.
She's not nervous. She just has a fantastically comedic way of appearing nervous. She's very confident and rightly so. Brits have a different way of showing confidence to Americans.
After watching Fleabag season 1, I was OBSESSED with her. Literally watched everything she’s taken part in. I love Sandra Oh but how awesome would it had been if Phoebe played Eve in Killing Eve.
You can hear a pin drop from 3:00 for the next several seconds. She had everyone in the palm of her hand with baited breath hanging on her every word. I’ve never seen that in an SNL monologue. Well done PWB. Brava.
@@yeeaahBUDDY I appreciate the support. I completely forgot to RSVP "Attending" on my commenting invitation for this video, & here Vrael is just making a huge spectacle out of it.
@@sealand000 I have the conflicting assumptions of yours and hailey dixon's at the same time. Failed attempt to locate a pocket or itchy groin area, which is it? Let's find out!
Pay no attention to the little man, she’s wonderful and extremely talented. Check out her show Fleabag, and her other less well known, but equally good Crashing. She also wrote Killing Eve and has helped write the new James Bond film.
@Dusk Dawg Well, in fairness, Snoop broke the glass ceiling when it comes to Doggs (or Dawgs, in your case) with a sophisticed understanding of the language. Who's to say whether I could have been this unprejudiced in '91?
love that they just gave her the floor and she could do a true monologue, no cheesy bits, no need for the cast members to run in and "shake things up" like with other hosts' monologues
@Zedic Black Anyone who's been watching the last 20 years knows the majority of them have a cast member participate in one way or another. There hasn't been a newscaster since 2005, or a politician since Trump hosted in 2015. You think that's the last time a cast member showed up on stage during a monologue?
"Do we have to do the monologue?" then she proceeded to do one of the best SNL monologues i've watched. British humor is so funny because i'm so used to american punchlines, and she always subverted my expectations.
british humour to a T, check out other classic british comedies: toast of london, peep show (quite cringe though), inbetweeners, chewing the fat... there's so many more ahaha
Victoria Smith, I agree. Oh and as a working class girl, she has never mocked me, just made me laugh. I’ll bet the men having a go at her have never actually watched anything of hers. She speaks to women of all ages and backgrounds, and to some enlightened men too.
@@Punchgirl4 she also writes such complex male characters too all her character's are 3 dimensional and get to the core of the human experience not this 'middleclass' experience
Andrew Man111 Not sexist in the slightest, I think you’ll find that most of those criticizing her or belittling her talent seem to be of the male persuasion. But... some of her most vocal supporters are also male, those who’ve actually watched her shows and listened to her words. And who says you’re in the majority? Just because you don’t know about something doesn’t mean you outnumber those who do. The Emmy awards might give a hint that she’s pretty good. Killing Eve won loads last year and Fleabag this year. Not bad going for someone who you don’t rate. Anyway, off you pop, there’s probably some Jackass reruns on somewhere.
Thank you a reincarnated John Lennon, (fabulous song BTW). Interestingly the Beatles also recorded a song titled "Girl" (Rubber Soul) another great record!
Phoebe is a comedic genius. I'm so glad she's getting the recognition she deserves! (P.s. I love how she always brings up Andrew and his role in season 2's success ❤)
Yeah! actually her show, Fleabag, started when a friend, who wanted her to do stand-up, asked her to fill in for a 30 minute slot and it was kind of the beginnings of her play, which soon became the Fleabag show -so she definitely has that talent.
I agree and disagree, in the first place this woman is incredibly talented well-spoken, attractive, and seems to be quite intelligent and as she could be "good" at doing standup but with certain things in life one either is or one is not, and please don't take this the wrong way because I think she is an amazing person and beautiful really but she doesn't strike me as funny., also I could be wrong.
Saw fleabag in its entirety a few days ago. Now obsessed with this woman and her genius ways. Obsessed I tell u!!! And no more fleabag?! 😭 I’m devastated.
Amazing monologue! And I just figured out I wasn't listening before. I thought Andrew Scott's character on Fleabag was named "Hot Priest", I didn't realize he was just the "Priest".
I love this speech because some female celebrities talk about genitalia and sex and just get it so wrong, like Amy Schumer. But this speech wasn’t gross to listen to, it was relatable, fresh, and hilarious! Bravo PWB! :)
Yay! An extremely well written and performed monologue with no cast members and no singing and dancing. Just a woman being funny. Yeah, I can get behind this and I'd like to see more good monologues done this well. I am 100% sure Phoebe wrote most of this.
Whenever somebody would ask me what 2 people, living or dead, I’d like to have dinner with, I’d always respond with Mozart and Jesus or Jefferson and Maria Callas. But now I’ve decided the people I really want are Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott. And if, by chance I can invite another, I’ll take Paul Mescal.
See, what I love about this woman…one of the things I love about this woman…is how she manages to have such a dynamic voice without being fucking annoying. coMERcials would KILL to have such a PERson. She can change the pitch and volume and other things I don’t understand, and it doesn’t piss me off. I enjoy it. It’s perfect
Phoebe Waller-Bridge has won 3 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series - Fleabag: 2.1, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series - Fleabag: Season 2 and Outstanding Comedy Series - Fleabag: Season 2.
So I’m obsessed now but I just discovered this show from my therapist and binged it in a weekend…sad only two seasons and can’t wait to check her other shows out
