Purple jacket is the composer of the song which will be performed by the long haired man and the women next to him is his agent or assistant of some sort who obviously has feelings for him. The beautiful fantasy of a couple learning ancient skills (cross bow, horse back riding)----

This weird Korean highlander short film is still one of my favorite music videoes ever.

i just saw them perform this live on june 8th at the primavera sound city show and i got so emotional thinking about this music video when they played this song. LOVE THIS BAND

when i saw the video i thought phoenix were a korean or japanese band

as an Asian American, this is like the most unintentionally subversive song lol. The song uses the pentatonic scale which is stereotypically and often mockingly associated with Asian music-- though in reality it's used in some Chinese music, and not that common in most other Asian music. The lyrics relate to the tension between playing along with such stereotypes to be accepted by the dominant culture (Entertainment . Show them what you do with me. When everyone here knows better) and wanting to be yourself (What I once refused to be. Is everything they long together. I'd rather be alone). There's also reference to reconnecting with your past selves that you've lost (I love, I love, I love, I notice . I heard it all before I died. Before I knew you. Once upon a time would take too long)
