Dan - the end result is very nice. The wood and the feathers have a unique look and texture to them. Good combination. As a thought for another project where you are trying to "embed" something in the resin ... you might try using some fast-setting resin (perhaps even UV resin) and use a paintbrush to build up the resin in the cutout until it is about an inch thick. Then glue the feathers (or whatever) to that resin. Then, either pour or use the brush to fill the resin into the cutout. This would allow you to turn the inside and the outside without ever hitting the feathers (or whatever) with the tools. It would also mean you would not have to spend as much time getting the cutout quite as smooth and sanded. The extra time it would take to build up the inside resin layer would not really take any longer than it did to do all the sanding of the cutout and the difficulty in getting the project out of the pressure pot

I felt bad when I saw the jackhammer come out. When I saw the car bumper, my heart just broke for you! I'm so sorry you went through such hell on this project. FYI, a good way to soften the spines on the feathers is with either a heat gun or a steam gun. It's made out of the same stuff as your fingernails; so just like when you take a hot shower your fingernails get soft. So will the spines on those feathers.

I watch a guy who makes huge tables with resin and wood. He treats his wood with resin that's thinned down with acetone so it soaks deeply into the wood and I would imagine that it's way easier to apply. It probably seems like I do nothing but watch YT videos, but I have a business that does laser cutting and 3D printing so when the laser and printers are running, I have spare time. ;-) I also sound like a know-it-all since I learn tricks from other people and pass them on if I think they might be useful. Sorry if that's annoying. I love the cause you're supporting and the level of expertise that you've developed. So I'm more likely to share something here.

Lovely vase/bowl. It took a lot of effort and probably a great deal more swearing but we’ll done. I have 4 parrots. If you ever want feathers let me know.

I remember seeing a guy fixing a birds broken feather with hot steam. Maybe that technic can be used to bend them also? I didn’t try it but just a thought.

It's by far the best "woodturning" project I've ever seen. Nothing went wrong. It was supposed to be EXACTLY as it turned out. I was skeptical when you were gluing/joining the feathers but the end result waohed me. PERFECT AND EPIC.

The bowl turned out to be superb. My wife and I are impressed. However, the constant ads for the Mormon church is a downer. We found it offensive. I will not subscribe or watch another of your videos.
@artgivinghope

I don't recall an ad for the Mormon church anywhere... are you talking about me referencing my own life story? Why wouldn't i talk about my own history?
@artgivinghope
@artgivinghope 2 года назад
You'll have to explain your comment in more detail. My channel exists to share my love for creation as well as raising money to fight child trafficking. I'm a Mormon who served a mission in Brazil and saw some parrots that inspired this work. Is that what offended you? So curious....
