Phoibos Kraken 300m Watch Review

That's a great watch and review, Peter. Love the high beat. More micros should make that move. The Scales bracelet looks patterned after the Yema, which I picked up. Agreed on the date window issue. Sometimes micros push the envelope too far. I think this is their best offering so far. Best of the season from Canada!

That bracelet almost has a Kraken-scale like pattern to it. I think the only other watch I have seen with anything similar was a Citizen. Very cool look, and very unique.

Nice watch, these days I can’t read the date no mater what colour it is, looks very nice with inspiration from other watch brands but not a homage. The bracelet is very nice, reminds me of honey comb Great review as always Merry Christmas 🌲

Great tip about flossing the crown threads. I have a few watches that are not ideal in their threading so I will use floss on those.👍

Another outstanding review - good job! I've never been a big fan of Phoibos, but they ticked all of the right boxes with this one. It looks VERY much like if a Sinn UX and an Omega had a baby, not a bad thing. It is nice to finally see a high beat. The only real gripe is the same as yours, that red date is useless. They should have just used a plain white date or lumed date wheel. Thanks for another great review, wish you and yours a happy, healthy and safe holiday and new year.

*Great* to finally see a high beat movement in one of these. In my very humble opinion, they get so many things right and the only gripe I've ever had was their constant use of low frequency inexpensive movements. Workhorse, sure, but these are really genuinely nicely designed and I feel like they deserved the nicer movement. Phoibos has traditionally struggled with the hands, and getting the proportions right, and it seems like they still haven't quite got it dialed in. Overall though, it's a really nice looking piece. The price... Hmm. I'm very on the fence. That probably means they got the price exactly right lol. It's high enough that I'm looking real hard at the specs but juuust low enough to slide under the Swiss boys. Yeah. They probably got it right on the nose.

Just finished marinating my bbq meat for today so found a little time to sit down and check out some watch reviews. Another great Phoibos, I have 4 already. Very tempting, and Merry Christmas to all who are of that faith.

Great tip about using dental floss to clean crown threads. Tried it on my Tisell Explorer and crown seems easier to start threading now. Big fan of Miyota 90xx movements - much better than NH35 hands down.

The bracelet is really creative! The RED date is not good… The rest of the watch looks fantastic. The Hi-Beat movement is appreciated too. And the “logo’s” are consistent with similar theme. The micro ratcheting adjustment is a great feature too. Overall, I’m intrigued. Nice review. I’ll be looking for this one on-line.

Hi Peter. Your videos are visually stunning. Well done sir. Phoibos watches are fabulous imo. Bought the Reef Master three or four years ago and just ordered the version 2 of the Great Wall. Looking forward to that coming. When you see the quality produced by the so called microbrands, I simply can't justify spending more on the "premium" brands. Good Review. Phoibos has made and is making some good watches. This Kraken has a lot of cool features that places it above most of the 300 meter divers for the price (movement, thickness, bracelet, clasp, case lugs, and lume).

That bracelet has an almost snakeskin look. That with the on the fly adjustment suggest a lot of thought has gone into the bracelet. That in itself is unusual. A very pretty watch head, making this a very attractive package. I love the aesthetics of the face, with the indices and handset, really nice.

This is a Bulova Accu-swiss coffin style bracelet. Check out the Bulova 65B168 from 2015. This is an excellent review. When I first saw this watch it immediately grabbed me. It's muscular yet sharp boat tailing of the lugs help visually trim it up to wear well along with the slim profile. That clasp has always been a staple of older micro's and it may be big but once you wear one and accept the size it is one of the most versatile and comfortable clasps ever. I have the 1st voyager and Phoibos makes solid watches. How's the winding? All of the Miyota 9000 movements I've had felt gritty when winding. I just don't get a good feeling from them and actually prefer the older 8xxx series or the NH35. I'm glad you had the black dial for review because while I like it, I think I like the blue more after seeing your black dial version. Definitely on my radar.

Love the Brand. I will consider this as I do like it a lot (especially the blue). The Red Date issue is simply a very confusing and bad design decision (very odd for such a good brand). I already own two Voyagers and one Apollo. Nice review !

What a stunner of a bracelet!

I've always liked Phoibos. I own a couple myself. Very solid watches. They've released a couple of clunkers but they always bounce back. Bit of a Seamaster style this one. The alternating date disc is a bit odd. Miiyota 9000 series are popping up a lot since the NH35s are harder to get. Bracelet is gorgeous. A very nice offering from Phoibos! Cheers Peter. I reviewed the watch too and thought it was fantastic. To me the date wheel although quirky it’s still a great idea, you missed on showing the other colour ways and that for each colour way the date wheel matches the dial. This means Phoibos have actually had the date wheels made specifically for their watches. Not many micro brands are going to that level of detail and is a constant gripe of many when you see a white date wheel on a black dial etc.

Like the bracelet, but those types of clasp have sharp edges although very functional. The head of the watch is a bit of a mish mash in terms of design. Considering the Chinese can make good quality copies etc... it's about time they made some luxury watches that are designed by them to compete with the Swiss and Japanese craftsmen. No doubt it will come in time though. Great vid as always Peter and have a fantastic Xmas m8.

You should have mentioned the price first 😆 (I'm getting the blue one for sure). On the bracelet: I have my doubts on that extension to be honest. I have all three Helm watches and with the exception of one, they came with this type of extension. But it makes the buckle super big! And over time it wears super uncomfortable 🥵. I got the smaller clasp from them (now standard) and it was way more manageable. I like the Zelos extension way better!

Hiya Pete! Not only does the trick with the dental floss remove the grit, it also leaves a small amount of wax on the threading with a lubricating effect. As for this watch, I often struggle with Phoibos watches, but this one comes close to where I like it. For me they messed up the dial layout. Thr 6, 9 and 12 o'clock markers are so massive they impair the ability to tell the exact time in some situations by covering up the adjacent minute markers. And along with it comes no attempt to maintain the dial symmetry, for example by placing the date window at the 6. And with these red numbers the date window itself becomes virtually useless. So overall this watch isn't well thought out. Merry Christmas mate! 💫

Phoibos has released the Kraken long time ago, their design is going stronger and better all the time, either you like it or don't. Still it's always unique, and that alone is well appreciated. No fear to "play" too. The only "foul" in my oppinion is the hands, in almost all their watches, even the ones i like a lot, like the whole Eagle Ray line. Other than that the quality is there, plus the novelties. Probably the microbrand i'll go for... soon. That Eagle Ray GMT is calling me! Thanks for the review Peter, once more happy holidays mate. I wish they made it a little but smaller. I had the Wavemaster which was as big as I can wear on my wrist without it being too big, I dont know why this looks bigger than that.

Phoibos watches are so amazing. Another stunner, and one of the best micro brands. Don’t count the Great Wall series though.

To be fair this is a watch that is a mix of quite a few designs. Omega(the lugs), kobold(the dial), bulova(the bracelet) It looks interesting but not my taste.

I like bezel, bracelet and clasp but the dial, the face of the watch is to busy asimetrical and for my taste ugly. Put the date on 6 give me some other hand set I dislike original and faux Omega hands. Nice they went with Miyota

Just out of curiosity but who is the "we" in this channel? You have someone working for you or how does that work? Or is that like a way to dissociate from something you don't want to talk about? If so watches aren't cheap, even affordable ones add up and brands like Phobios don't have great marketing - you are their marketing. Not only should they give you the watch, they really should and I hope they did, compensate you for your effort and time. Best wishes, happy holidays.

i think this is a watch marketed towards 20 year olds. Perhaps the entire brand is basically aiming at this bracket. it would be nice to see something less flashy that an adult might choose to wear. If I wore this to a meeting my colleagues would look at me asthough i wore a batman costume to work. The caseback is cool. I like the logo but it plays itself out appearing too often on the watch. The bracelet is a nice touch but again with everything else on the watch maximized for "coolness" ...the bracelet is less cool. I would put that bracelet on a watch that isn't trying so hard.

Peter at this point anybody watching your videos know when you review a diver over 40mm you complain about the weigh. We get it! You like tiny lightweight watches! I am not trying to be negative as each person has there own comfort zone. Mine has shrunk from up to 50mm to 42ish now. You missed my dislike on this watch! I do not care for SS bezel inserts. Sure maybe one model with it but for close to $500 I believe it should have been ceramic. Just my opinion.

I received mine today, its awful, the worst Phoibos ive had and ive had them all, I can't understand the reviews on this, the bracelet is horrible, the watch is enormous and not the size it says on the website , flat glass not double domed ,
