​Depends on local laws some municipalities, city, town or county have their own laws and regulations while some entire states completely outlaw any assisted opening knife, some it's just if it's a spring or tension assist open, others have laws about gravity assist specifically, others have limits if it's spring loaded only if it's OTF knifes or switchblades some have laws about shape of handel like "T" handels of the push type knifes. California is very strict with their knife laws down to size something like overall length has to be under 2¾" or about that and absolutely no assisted opening type. I'm in Louisiana so my knowledge is limited to comparison between Louisiana and others and my information may not be exact but it's the gist.

well the inspriation of that last one was indeed a toy for children, it's a chinese gravity knife variation called the carrot knife, mostly marketed to primary/middle school students as a cheap, plastic fidget toy simlar to the fidget spinner
