My dad is a Canadian US Navy Vietnam veteran. Served on the USS Enterprise for a Vietnam deployment. His dad and his grandfather served in the Canadian army during WW2 and WW1 respectively. Dude they come in all nationalities. I’m an American and My younger brother was going into marines but failed his UT(piss test) so they said nope. That didn’t stop him from wearing marine t-shirts and putting bumper sticker on his car and anytime someone asked he said yes I served. At first he couldn’t answer some of the questions asked of him but then he apparently studied info and had all the answers. He never did it in front of me because he knows I would never stand for that shit. Our dad served during Vietnam and my son is in 82nd Airborne. It’s disgraceful that people do that and I’ll never understand how that makes him feel better about himself I would feel worse.

I’m an 11B (Infantry) and went to Sniper school and even that title has 100 to 1 on fakes! I saw one right before I retired, a civilian employee on the base was a retired Medical whatever and he was leading a PT session in a warehouse near where I worked and he had a black t-shirt with a huge yellow SNIPER tab on the chest. So I thought’Great, another fellow Grunt here, how rare” so I started talking to him and asked what year he went to the school and what system he was trained on, etc. that’s when he said “uhhhh, I’m not actually sniper qualified, I wear this to impress the new medical Officers”…I was stunned silent for a couple seconds then I burst out laughing! I don’t tell people of the schools I went to since it usually makes them start to act weird, even POG’s/REMF’s. Hell, before I retired, even wearing a CIB would intimidate non-Combat Arms MOS holders! Some POG units with re-classed 11 series who have CIB’s were told to remove their CIB from their uniform! Well, I wasn’t the one who told my recruiter; “I’ll take any job but Infantry” lol.

@@zxyatiywariii8You don’t have to be an American to serve in the US military, as long as you have a green card. Second, the Navy does take foreign military into BUD/s school. It’s also possible some can be a dual citizen. I grew up on Ontario, just like my dad. His childhood best friend grew up next door to him in suburban Toronto but he had an American father and did have US Citizenship….he ended up serving in the US Navy.
