Photogrammetry I Course, Chapter: Camera Basics
This lecture is part of the Photogrammetry I course at BSc level taught by Cyrill Stachniss at the University of Bonn, Germany in the summer term 2015.
Slide Information
* The slides have been created by Cyrill Stachniss as part of the photogrammetry and/or robotics courses.
* I tried to acknowledge all people who contributed images or videos. In case I made a mistake or missed someone, please let me know.
* The photogrammetry material heavily relies on the very well written lecture notes by Wolfgang Förstner and the Photogrammetric Computer Vision book by Förstner & Wrobl.
* Parts of the robotics material, espcially the algorithms, stems from the great Probabilistic Robotics book by Thrun, Burgard and Fox.
* Feel free to use the course material, please send me an email to receive the Powerpoint files.

100% I wish my professors would explain things the same way, not a gazillion trigonometry formulas..

I feel like I just went back to my courses at RIT in the imaging and photographic technology program. I feel like I got transported back to 1989 LOL This is great stuff

Thank you very much for making these lectures available. There is a small correction necessary regarding the differences between CMOS and CCD sensor arrays. For example, if you want a global shutter, you're not limited to buying a CCD array. The inverse is also true, where a rolling shutter may be used with a CCD array. Overall, there are very good reasons for choosing a CMOS array. They can be very high quality and have similar noise characteristics as CCD arrays..

@Cyrill Stachnis Is this material useful for civil undergrad students to pursue master's in Remote sensing and GIS?

quesiton @ 43:20- So can you have a CMOS sensor that has a global shutter or a CCD sensor with a rolling shutter?

I can't definitively answer your question but I do believe there's a hybrid shutter where they take a CMOS digital sensor and put a mechanical leaf shutter in front of it, to create a pseudo global shutter. I believe this is what DJI does with their "mechanical shutter" cameras, for example like the Phantom for pro.
