On your shooting music festivals, I was fortunate as a newspaper shooter to shoot the Seabreeze Smooth Jazz Festival yearly from its inception in 1999 to my final time in 2014. Being it was a local festival, I was able to know the organizer and got full access to the performers and the event (which today last for 5 days and draws over 20,000 fans total). The key difference is I got full access to the event (the organizer even provided me a place to park) over the entire time of the festival. I was also allowed to move around the edge of the stage as well as access to the periphery of the stage for shooting unlike what you mentioned of a specific time and/or number of songs/scores and then have to leave. It was a great gig and the editor usually did at least a full page spread of the event. In the days leading up to the festival, the editor would usually run a feature photo in the paper giving the organizer some free advertising.

I used to do ton of editorials in studios with a team of 5-15 ppl. Pro models could pull it off but when shooting celebrities they felt awkward and didn’t know what to do. After a while it stopped being fun as it lost its organic side of it. And now it’s just me and my Leica and couldn’t agree more. Shooting ppl who are in their element without being aware of the photographer is so rewording when you see them being themselves and honest. Thank you

I think people who understand the deceive moment understand this, it’s what photographers are chasing. You explain it very succinctly. That M10-p is a real performer.

Thank you. True, I think some thing the decisive moment is lock, but it'a actually paying attention and snap the photo that shows essence.

shooting concerts and sports has been a struggle for me, its very dark and my M240 is pushed to its limits. what equipment/settings do you find work best in such a challenging environment?

Yes, you are absolutely right. It is interesting to see how the Grammys photos from 2020 are so much higher quality than the film images from 2005 ... but how much soul and atmosphere the film images hold even they are quite raw and blurry compared. Lot so of work doing film compared to digital however ...
