As a fellow Kiwi and a big fan of Nick Page, it was so cool to see a New Zealand (even if he's an Aussie!) photographer on the channel.

Thanks Nick for introducing me to William. I'll check out his work when I finish listening to this interview. I'm a kiwi living in Hawkes Bay and although not a high profile district in a half hour time frame I could be photographing the river, the sea, bush or cloud inversion from the top of Te Mata Peak in the winter. I'm so glad to hear the conversation about handheld esp when I'm up Te Mata Peak on uneven surface constantly trying to alter the composition as the fog shifts on a tripod is a hassle and slows me down. Oh and Nick you are an all time idol of mine.

one of the best Nick and not just because its my country....I have followed Will since I picked up a camera and have luved the way he works and his philosophy......I keep saying you need to come and visit...you might find like Will you never want to leave
@JamesAndrewMacGlashanTaylor
You two really meditated for a while on workflow in a way that wasn't stale or superficial. I don't know about anyone else, but I was completely engaged. Mileage may vary. Thanks!

Yeah great to sit with this conversation. I was particularly intrigued around the hand held part. I thought I was weird doing most of my stuff hand held. I take it very very rarely. Great to hear of others who tend to use it only in some circumstances, but prefer to have a different relationship with tool, and environment. James Popsys is another one. Thanks for sharing the conversation. Thinking through some stuff now . . . .

Brilliant interview! I think will is one of the most exiting artists in the world (as are you nick) and was lucky enough for him to mentor me for a while.. fantastic teacher and with chatting to him found out how respectful he is.. with everything, people, nature, raw files… absolutely top lad

Totally agree with the tripod use. It always fascinates me why photographers comment on their work that it’s straight out of camera or hand held. Does anyone really care. I to enjoy the freedom of no tripod. Great interview thanks for the introduction to William’s work

Geez another great video Nick. I'm sorry you cant get out and do your workshops, but us poor suckers sitting at home on the couch are benefiting from this great content. I'm very grateful. I'm in NZ, and I usually try and avoid NZ youtubers so I can do my own thing without to much influence, but this guy is too good. ❤ No tripod you say... 🤔

Great video … really enjoyed it. I have followed both of you, so good to see the collaboration. Will is a lucky lad to live in Fiordland ….. I’m just hoping to get down there sometime soon … been a few years ….. it feels so remote only a short distance from the road, the bush is so dense and the valley sides so steep, that hiking is always a challenge.

I’m so Glad Will made the point of that he uses mirrorless. I was really starting to think I was useless at hand held photography with low shutter speeds on my 6DMKII 😂😂 Fantastic interview and awesome to to hear he is originally from Aus. Bloody legend. Williams work is absolutely out of this world! 🇦🇺🤙🥃🍻

Hi Nick, a great podcast with William Patino. I have been considering moving away from the Fujifilm X series for some time. I am looking at moving to the Sony A7R1111; I started out on Nikon D300, D300s, and D610 and then moved into the mirrorless Fujifilm X series. Time to move back to Full-frame mirrorless cameras.

THis is fantastic Nick! I'm a fan of Will Patino and a fellow Australian. I remember when He decided to uproot and move to NZ -South Island. I understand why, but it's a BIG move with a young family. Love WP's work and ability to do landscape photography in his very individual style. Sitting here in Sydney, watchi 2 great photographers have a great conversation. Cheers.

I’m a big fan of William & he is one of my favourite photographers. Hopefully I can do one of his workshops one day soon. I’ve just returned from a NZ south island holiday with my wife & did notice a decline in Kia numbers from previous visits so William’s conservation work & giving back can only help make a difference. Thanks for the great interview. 😀👍

Very interesting podcast! I wish i had someone IRL to talk about photography with... sadly no one i know is into it. I am in a wheelchair and even tho i am about as mobile as it's technically possible for a wheelchair, especially with my wife's help, moving around hard terrain remains complicated... so dealing with a tripod usually makes it even worse, so i do way more handheld than tripod shots... I now know that my shot are bad not because i don't use a tripod but because i suck. :P Also, i am very much on board with the "editing is tedious and daunting" - i really dislike that part of photography and many times when i come home with a lot of pictures, all excited because i managed to find something curious or beautiful to shoot (i am not a pro and really can't spend much dedicated time, photography is usually a "side thing" that goes with our travels and life) i actually don't want to open them up in Lightroom. It's a mixture of annoyance with the process and "fear" of having fucked up the shots and wasted a probable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (since usually i can't just go back to awesome places just to take pictures). Anyway, see you on Vero :)

Hi Nick and Will. That was an awesome discussion, I thoroughly enjoyed it and came away with quite a bit to think about. I follow both your channels and am really into Will's work because I love New Zealand. Will captures the landscape as I remember it to be... with the amazing light and environment. Will's courses are absolutely excellent too, I can personally recommend them. Thank you both for making the video
