The amazing pictures, video, the music and most of all your narration makes it such a great storytelling. Your work is so personal it feels like you are representing your area and your background. Really thoughtful storytelling. Makes it stand apart from your standard US based photographers shooting NYC or LA. This work will stand the test of time and mean something lot more.

Its nostalgic and a bit sad, places like Haberman's were once thriving mom and pop shops that dotted not only the rural US but the rural parts of Canada too. I remember back to an old holiday visit to see family out in Long Island N.Y. for a wedding, and there used to be an old camera shop - another mom and pop place back in the late 70's, I was only 17 back then, and I bought a used black Minolta SRT-201 from a place called Stableman's Camera World, and that place had a similar type sign, don't know if its still there. But I tell you what, I still have the camera, and the memories of that trip out to Long Island. Documenting through photography, places like that, and like Haberman's is a worthy if not necessary pursuit. We examine ourselves, our lives, from searching these documented photographs, and we are touched by the familiarity and by the loss. I just think photography is a wonderful way to connect with ourselves, our past, and where we are heading now, nice work Robbie. Great little video.

Great story telling and thanks so much for the shout out, I’ve also followed Sarah for years and...yay Ektar! I feel like Ektar got a bad rap when it came out because the common scanners of the day couldn’t handle its color palette. My first shots with it showed everything people hated about it: Caucasian skin tones with the boiled lobster look and what looked like very little highlight headroom. All that changed when I started developing and scanning my own film using NegativeLabPro and a Sony A7Riv. On including background? Always. I’ll shoot detail shots, especially if they are unique, or in the case of something like Roy’s, so well known that everyone instantly knows what you’re shooting. But mostly I try to let the subject tell the story. In recent years we’ve seen a movement, especially in New Mexico, of financially privileged sign collectors basically stripping all of these roadside relics away. This robs them of their context and divorces them from their story. Because of trends like these I often feel like I’m one step ahead of all of it disappearing. Shoot them while you can, shoot them well, and shoot them often because it’s all on life support. In the case of businesses that are still in operation, I always go out of my way to go inside let the owners know I appreciate what they’re doing to keep the old stuff alive and I’ll make some kind of purchase even if it’s just something token like a postcard or T-shirt. Ultimately a thriving business is vintage signage’s best friend. Thanks again for the kind words.

Thank you so much for watching, Tim! I could not agree more in regards to supporting these businesses. I will go out of my way to make sure they know its appreciated. This video was a little token of my appreciation to some of my favorites in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Nice camera, great camera! I use 6x6 medium format, often thought about the 645, in my mind, the 645 is basically a rectangular crop of the 6x6, so if someone wants the landscape format, then 645 is the way to go unless one jumps to 6x7, 6x8, 6x9 and 4x5. Great tips for safety Robbie!

I think I prefer 645 and 6x6 with Medium Format after tons of tests.. You're spot on, its perfect for landscapes.

I love vintage signs as well. As a graphic designer and sign maker! This is what I should be taking but I find myself shooting other things such as vintage vehicles just as a get away from what I do all day. Hahaha! Great video man! The Mamiya is a great camera and small enough to conceal in those areas of questionable surroundings! Stay safe and see you again in your next video!

Ektar is becoming one of my favorite film stocks. It's so much more vivid than anything else Kodak is making and it lends itself perfectly to sort of "urban landscape" work.

Another entertaining and informative video, Robbie! I’m thinking of getting the Mamiya 645. On a side note, be really careful around some of those homeless people. Some are dangerous criminals and others are mentally ill and potentially violent. Not all are bad but just be careful.

Love the images. Do you feel the 55mm is a nice compliment to the 80mm (and a 150mm) or if you could do it over would the 45mm maybe be a better choice (although more $$ currently). I like wide but not too wide and fear the 45mm may be too much.
