[Part 2] • If 7 Famous Historical...
Not long ago an old matchbook laying on photographer Pablo Iglesias Maurer's desk caught his eye. Or rather, it was the postcard-like picture on it, of a resort complex built in the 1960s. It got Pablo wondering how the place looked now, and the answer has led him to make an amazing photo series called Abandoned States.
The picture came with the title How to Run A Successful Golf Course, but when Maurer got to the place, it was clear the owner of Penn Hills Resort didn't follow that advice. He pointed the camera at the decaying building at roughly the same spot and did a '5-decades-after' shot of the place.
Ever since then, Pablo was hooked. He ordered more 60s postcards from eBay and started going around the country capturing these once beautiful buildings that now stand abandoned only as faint memories of what once was.
"The postcards, have their own haze-the places were never as nice as they look. I often struggle to get the two images to line up, as well. But time blurs the difference, and brings everything into focus."

I wish more people cared more about old historic places and the history behind them. I've always been fascinated with how places looked back in the day compared to now, even when I used to Urban explore abandoned Hospitals, Asylums & Prisons it just intrigues me to see how things looked from our past and to really think about how lively this Vacant building used to be full of people. All that energy and emotion stays in those walls and sometimes you can feel it like walking back in time! But nowadays everything ends up getting tore down to put up some condos or a highway completely forgetting the past and our history!

This is called the law of entropy. Almighty Allah has created everything in this world in a form that will lead to destruction. Over time, a person's skin wrinkles, bones melt, hair falls out and other things... Allah has created such a system in this world so that people realize that this world is not a place to be closed. Let them understand that this world is a temporary place. Let them know that real life is life after death. "This worldly life is nothing but fun and games. The abode of the Hereafter is real life. I wish they knew!" (Holy Quran, 29/64) "Give them an example of worldly life. This (worldly life) is similar to the rain that We send down from the sky. The plants on the ground grow mixed with it, and then turn into dry debris blown away by the wind. God is able to do everything." (Holy Quran, 18/45)

The good ol' days, I hope one day we get them back, only if we can get more conservatives back, not one liberal have I found take care of anything and I live in NY so there's plenty of liberals to look at, they worry more about replacing new with the new, they want to not work but still get paid, they want more money for less work, they want everything handed to them on a silver platter, everything here can be fixed with some love and hard work fixing it up, but sadly we're not around the generation that built the sears houses or nothing like many in my neighborhood still standing today and the government has too much say in our freedoms and rights on what we can do, having the permits, the safety, and just jumping through hoops to get everything going.

Yeah, back then we stayed outdoors as much as possible. Dependent on your social-economic conditions at the time, going fishing, boating or swimming was the deal. Even those in the city, if possible, would leave for a day trip just to get out of the city. I worked at a camp in North Jersey that was setup to have inner city and special needs kids come to the camp for a week at a time. It gave them an exposure to the outdoors without concrete and gave their folks a break for a week also. The kids got to do some canoeing, nature crafts, arts n' crafts, swimming (or at least taught to float/basic swimming) and other things they normally never experienced in the city.

I drove by recently during a road trip to visit family, and it was so weird not seeing the house there anymore. God is able to do everything." (Holy Quran, 18/45).

Aaron, the cycle is ongoing. Yes indeed, places that WE ALL have been and enjoyed will all be like this someday soon enough. I'm soon 50 years old, and already many places from my childhood are gone, abandoned, boarded up. Campgrounds, bowling alleys, YMCA, hometown hockey stadium, etc. Even my high school is torn down and a modern one built in it's place. I can't even walk those halls ever again. It's already a mere memory, and I'm still alive. Time is a ticking clock, that you begin to notice more as you get older. It's eerie. Also time seems to speed up. Years only feel 'half as long' as they used to in my 20's and 30's. Since you're young, you'll not know this until you are older. But I'm not making this up. You'll see, someday. Thus - cherish your time NOW, ALWAYS.

Especially with the riots, looting and the virus all going on causing businesses to close for good, I sense a purge coming or maybe even the end of the world, skeeter davis was right, dont they know it's the end of the world. Or when R.E.M. when he sings about it's the end of the world, listened to the radio the other day and right after they were talking about riotings and looting they played that song by R.E.M. lol. I feel the same way though disgusting!

During the 60s, there was segregation, the Vietnam war, civil rights protests, the assassination of JFK, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and teachers were allowed to hit kids for crying out loud!
