I have one of these printers and must agree with your conclusions. It produces fantastic results and the print head and Z axis are built like a tank. One thing I feel I should add though. Big printers are always slower than little printers. The lift height required to pull a layer off the FEP is nearly twice as much as with e.g. the sonic mini 4k simply because the FEP is larger and can deform further. The greater lift distance required is also why you need a greater light off delay too. So, if you do small prints, buy a small printer unless you need to do a load of prints at the same time.
@@TeachingTech thanks for your awesome review! Q: the specs phrozen gives on the website say 80 mm/hour, are they stretching the truth in your opinion? if the ninja turtle bust was 9 hours to print and it looks 220 mm tall from what i can tell, that's about 25mm per hour as opposed to what they spec at 80 mm/hour. That seems like a pretty big discrepancy
Glad to hear that a machine like this is considered so good that it's boring - I was looking at the Phrozen Sonic Mini 4k and wasn't sure if they would be a good brand to go with, given that they're less established. But seeing this kind of quality and reliability is fantastic news.
@@TeachingTech oh! I just watched that one. It looks like, if the goal is just high-resolution resin printing, the mini 4K is a better bang for the buck?
One could argue they are actually more established. They have been around in resin printing for a long time and tend to set the trend in resin printing. They were the first to do parallel light matrices and also the first affordable monochromatic screen 3d printers. They were a full year ahead of anycubic and the others with these features.
@@dakotapahel-short3192 oh nice! I’m only ever hear about the anycubic and elegoo brands from the people that heavily do reviews, mods, repairs, custom firmwares, etc - even things like “which has a bigger/more active subreddit/forums/etc”, phrozen is almost always way, way behind compared to anycubic and elegoo
I've had a Sonic Mini 4K for almost a year now and printed quite a lot with it. It is a fantastic machine - no issues at all, and the quality of its printed models compared to those I've seen from friends with other printers is astonishing. I strongly recommend investing in a Phrozen machine if you're considering purchasing a resin printer.
I think of Elegoo Mars 3, lot of say because of the Chitubox software plus its a good printer. Which printers you had decide and why the Sonic? Have a FDM printer but like to print figures too
They look like great machines. Nice timing on the video. While I purchased a diffferent brand, I am very new to resin printing so looking forward to more videos about them. Also got the Wash-N-Cure V2.
I was really thinking of getting the Mono X, but now I’m thinking this might be the large scale resin printer I want to go with. $600 isn’t bad when compared to other machines of it size. Excellent review as always!
Same. I currently have a Photon Mono and want to get a larger printer. I was researching the Mono X and saw where it has a few issues. The Elegoo Saturn is pretty much a no show, but this Mighty 4k may we'll be what I end up going with. Great, no nonsense review.
Thanks for the great review. At the beginning of the year I got the Mono X and have had nothing but issues with it. Anycubic don't help at all. It now just collects dust as I bought the Mighty 4K. Straight out of the box this printer was amazing.
I bought an Ender 6 that is currently a pet rock (38 fails 4 prints) and a Phrozen Mighty 4K which has worked like a dream 🙂 (probably 50 prints and 7 or 8 fails). I am brand new to printing and will persevere some more before the Ender 6 is ended with a sledge hammer! The Phrozen Mighty detail perfect and has made the most perfect models 🙂👍.
Hey Connor, I'm new to 3d printing, how do you set up your printer at home, do you need good ventilation or masks while working? would love to get into it!
@@lucylumi yes to both of your questions and you will need Nitrile GLOVES (apparently latex doesn't work) also eye protection is a good idea because you won't want the liquid resin getting in your eye.
I bought this from 3D Printers Online and very happy with my choice. The only regret I have is not getting a Luna, but at AU$579 i just cannot justify it...given it doesn't even wash...Its just crazy pricing from Phrozen. At the moment I handwash them and have made my own curing station, but will be looking at some of the large wash and cure stations that have hit the market now at less than half the price of the Luna. As for the printer it gives me great prints from day 1, no mucking around getting it "tuned" other than sanding the bed and a longer than suggested first layer/s needed for good bed adhesion ( 60s works very very well for me). I havent had a failed print since my second print.
I've been looking at resin printers for figurines, as not only my wife, but neighbors, likes figures. Would be much easier wish a resin printer. I'll definitely get a Phrozen 4K machine after these reviews. Thank you.
Michael, after curing, how strong are the parts compared to a FDM machine using like PLA+ or ABS? Would you use the resin to make functional prototype parts ?
I had a ton of issues getting my Mighty 4K to print correctly. The build plate was not completely flat, it was slightly concave, causing any supported prints that weren't near the edge to stick to the FEP, took nearly an hour of lapping on 60 grit sandpaper taped to a flat piece of tempered glass to get it flat enough to print right. The include FEP still gave me issues, moving to an nFEP (or PFA) sheet did the trick.
@@TeachingTech I did get one of the first pre-orders, and it seems to be a common issue with the early models, the current batch may have these issues fixed
I'm trying to print armies of minies, and this larger build area with little tweaking is exactly what I need. I currently own an Elegoo mars, which is a fantastic little machine, but too little for what I'm trying to accomplish quickly.
Hi Michael, love the videos - Im tasked with choosing a printer for a small business and doing some research... I have experience with a Form3 but the build volume would be too small for our needs and it would be nice to invest a bit less... Ive watched your videos on the Bambu Labs and the Phrozen and Im wondering how you'd decide which direction to go. I know there are lot of "it depends" involved, but if you were looking for ease of use (will be used as a tool in a business only, not by enthusiasts), a build volume of around 250mm3 and up, quality parts, speed, quiet... what machine jumps to the front of the que in your mind? Thanks (nice DannyRic shirt :), go Aussie Valtteri! :) ) - Ian
I have this set up too. I've not used the printer yet as I don't have the space (I use my Sonic mini atm)..I've used the Luna though and its great. I'd always go for premium gear....as the saying goes..."you buy cheap, you buy twice".
Shortly after this vid came out Phrozen lowered the price of the mighty 4K on amazon to 599USD, likely to coincide with the announcement of their new 8K Mega printer due out around October. Can't wait to see the size and detail of prints made by that sucker when it comes out. An 8K mono screen with a 330x185x400mm build volume is gonna be insane.
@@TeachingTech I never heard of those so i just looked them up, and wow, the phenom is crazy! 2k for a resin that size is not something i thought we could achieve this soon
The level of detail achieved with this machine is absolutely astonishing! Are the resins that SLA printers use still carcinogenic though? That's the biggest concern that I have with these printers.
Yes they are, they're entirely unregulated and a real crapshoot. I heard a story where the active ingredient in some neon resin from a large -maybe the largest producer- was white phosphorus. After a run around trying to get the CDR from the manufacturer finally he got it and shelved the resin.
Great video, love resin printers. Are there resin printers that can print full scale helmets/armor with minimal slicing to make it fit on the build plate? I really want to venture into resin printing but it would only be for printing large video game replicas/armor. Thanks in advance!
Hey I gonna put a BLTouch on my cocoon create touch but can you make a video about that printer but with more modifications like a glass bed clamp, 3D printed upgrades, and just overall something about the settings and cura settings.
thanks for the review, does it also support prusa slicer out of the box? looking for something to work directly with prusa slicer and looking for an over teh air command print (wifi or ethernet).
I went with the mono x, the printer has been fantastic.. wifi feature is useless, but prints have been 99% successful using either anycubics slicer or formware 3d
Very nice as usual .. So something for ideas a vid How about one on the BIGTREETECH Relay V1.2 as there is little in English. A lot would be interested i think since its shuts off after a print ..?
My guess for price increase is shipping ifs 150$ for shipping from phrozen so technically its 50$ cheaper as amazon typically has free shipping for prime members
Not that i would recommend anyone else doing this. But if the beeping annoys you you can open it up and take a pair of pliers and/or soldering iron and just pop the speaker off the board. Doesnt effect functionality.
BIG NEWS........ CREALITY tell me they shall enter soon to offer a operational site. Currently it would have no competition that weve been able to find. THANK YOU CREALITY. GOOD ON YOU.
this is why I'm undecided too! I don't know how to create a set up that's healthy. Do you need proper ventilation of some sort, or can you have in your loungeroom with the window open? ^^' Is their a 3D printer that is healthy for home use, and produces good smooth results? :)
If you're going for the absolute cheapest printer you're going to sacrifice quality, reliability, functionality, and ease-of-use. For that price you're most likely going to end up with a hobby kit printer that you have to build, maintain, and repair, which is not 'easy' for most users.
I bought a Voxelab Proxima 2K monoscreen printer when Amazon had a special on it for $160 USD. (I think the current price is $200 USD.) It works great and I'm impressed with the build quality of the machine. FWIW, I own 4 resin printers including an Epax E10 for larger prints like the Phrozen Sonic Mighty 4K shown in this video. One thing I would recommend is that, as tempting as the cheaper previous generation color LCD screen printers have become, pay extra for a monoscreen. It will be worth it in the long run.
Excellent review, I understand you are in the UK but many viewers are in the USA where metric is not universally used, Imperial units in addition to Metric would be helpful as well as the approximate cost of these prints. Am wondering if it is cost prohibitive for resin prints. Are there different resins available similar to FDM? Thanks
You have to go to their website. They usually have a warehouse somewhere around here like in the Czech Republic. That will make shipping cheaper and you will get a better prize
I still don't understand why people pay $200 for a wash/cure machine... Like, y'all really that lazy to line a box with aluminum foil and buy some UV LEDs?
Anyone have good recommendations for a large format SLA in the $2.5K to $5K USD? I am trying to find a system with excellent reliability and material options.
Where do you advise the comunity to licence there things now? Is it a site with current operationsl licence sales services operating? Currently i believe there are now none operstional in America. Not one influencer has been able to name not one opetational site. From anywhere now. So cutrently if you design a thing and iicence it you wont be able to sell that licence. You cant sell your bizness. Neither can i buy it. Selling things you designed must be licenced checked else risk being a pirate. I was stopped selling a 3d print because licence checks had let me down. Just cause you designed it and printed it at home dont mean you can sell it. I was almost banned from selling anything ever again permanatly. Just over trying to sell one 3d print. I was licencing things for others but since its down im trapped as the owner and the other person now cant become the owner. Printer idle. Me you and anyone else cant sell out. Nor buy in or buy out. Made a nice thing? and hold the licence for it?. How are you going to sell it. I dont think theres any operational sites left. Im trying to get at least one site operating again.
12:09 - Prints like this may eventually be the only 3D representations of these European churches that are being burned down by invaders at alarming rates.
