About The Carol Burnett Show
While there’s no truth to the rumor that “CBS” ever stood for The Carol Burnett Show, for eleven seasons and 278 episodes, this star-studded extravaganza of sketch comedy, song and dance became entertainment central for the network and TV viewers. Burnett operated in a relaxed theater setting that allowed her to take questions, cut loose with her famous Tarzan yell and join fellow performers Harvey Korman, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner to have a laugh or sing a song. The show received 25 Emmy Awards and eight Golden Globes, making it one of the most honored shows in television history.

It seems that Carol, since she is a dear and always cared about her fans.. she most likely discovered her ambition and so decided to meet her and see for herself if the girl deserved a real chance and boy did she!! 😀 Mighty successful.

As Carol told it, before production, she went to the salon for a cut, took her eyes off what the hairdresser was doing, and in an instant she found that all her hair was on the floor. Instead of screaming, she just whooped with laughter... that was her attitude. Instead of wearing a wig, she just started the show with this strange crew cut, and let it grow back.

1976, Carol signed an autographed picture, and it was sent to my home in St. Louis (1st grade). That photo started me on my journey to Hollywood. Last week I landed a principal role in a studio produced production (which I'm not allowed to talk about). Between then and now, I had the opportunity to appear as a recurring extra on "Hannah Montana" and I nearly lost it when I saw Vicki. "Hollywood Squares" with Tim and Harvey. And an episode of "Glee" with Carol. Our lives intersected. Thank you, Carol.

@@markhorton3994: Yes, Red Skelton was one of the great clowns, who even Jerry Lewis said was the best, and Jerry was rightfully known as a clown. What I meant was that Red could deliver his monologues and jokes all without a curse word or anything that was even the least offensive PG rating. I believe the closest he ever came to going beyond it was in a skit with George Gobel about Christopher Columbus and the building of his three ships, and the line was, "It's a hull of a ship." (about the Santa Maria). Tim Conway could have been a clown when he wanted to be (and he seemed to want to be, much of the time) but Red *was* one of the best.

Gosh, Vicki Lawrence is just too cute in this, being herself and as shy as she is! The chemistry and the gutbusting humor are two of "The Carol Burnett Show's" strongest traits! *LOVE* this show! also, I loved Phyllis Diller in "Did You Hear the One about the Traveling Saleslady?"

This I feel is one of the best classic episodes. I don't think I ever saw this until now. Great of the 60s guest star Booby Gentry, Phyllis Diller and Gwen Verdon. There impersonation of the Beatles were excellent.

One of the biggest qualities Carol Burnett had besides making fun of herself was the quality of likeability. She owned her audience from start to finish. She was never like many of the entertainers of today, doing their best to be unliked!

I was 15 when her show began. My family watched it for yrs. I didn't watch past the mid-seventies cuz i was in grad school and learning how to be a young man, but the yrs that i did watch it, Carol Burnett was and still is, one of the best shows in television history.

"I'll even cure your over-bite." In the context of their conversation, one of the best lines on the show. Phyllis Diller? lol.

I'm a life long (or long life) fan of all these women. I never would have suspected Phyllis Diller could carry a tune ...let alone with a clear stable voice IN TUNE!! XoXo

Look at Ms. Vicki Lawrence! She is adorable here! She’s actually the same age of my parents. Hard to imagine them at her age here. 😂 On a serious note, it’s amazing to see what a true talent that Ms. Vicki matured into!

When I was 8 back in 1987 I used to watch this on my 10" blacknwhite TV in my bedroom late at night. It used to run on channel 11 in Dallas IIRC. Still think how lucky I was to be able to watch this as a kid. Really helped my appreciation of comedy at a young age.

Bobbie🥰 Shame there are no longer variety shows on television. Must be my age but I find America’s Got Talent and all the other so-called talent shows unwatchable…SYTYCD is the exception.
