The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Wow. This brought back memories. My parents used to listen to Doris Day sing this song on their brand new stereo console. Those days we had beautiful songs and lyrics.

Phyllis followed this song with "Old Devil Moon". Later in the show she sang a duet, "Darn It, Baby, That's Love" with Robert Goulet. Both songs are on youtube.

I HAVE NEVER BEFORE HEARD ANY OF THE McGUIRE SISTERS SING A SOLO BEFORE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE OTHER TWO EVER DID, BUT I MUCH MORE ENJOY THIS SOLO PERFORMANCE THAN ANY OF THE McGUIRE SISTERS HITS!😊 WITH HER HEAVENLY VOICE STANDING ALONE LIKE THIS, I CAN UNDERSTAND WHY SHE WAS THE LEAD SINGER, ALTHOUGH I HONESTLY HAVE NOTHING TO COMPARE IT TO WITHOUT HEARING THE SOLO VOICES OF HER TWO OLDER SISTERS. (PHYLLIS JEAN McGUIRE DIED AGED 89 FROM NATURAL CAUSES.) REGARDLESS OF WHICH SISTER POSSESSED THE MOST APPEALING VOICE, WHICH MAY BE SUBJECTIVE, SHE SHOULD HAVE RECORDED HUNDREDS OF SONGS ON HER OWN WHILE STILL MAKING RECORDINGS WITH HER TALENTED SIBLINGS.😊

The last Ed Sullivan show before John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It's interesting that Phyllis is not listed in the episode guides as appearing on this show. I assume this was a rare Sullivan appearance without her sisters as she was attempting a solo career. "It's Magic" had been a hit for Doris Day back in 1948. Written by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn.

…..at least you could understand the words of the songs back then! Also, music professionals have stated that Rock n Roll genre does not require music and who have outstanding singing voices, they just need to carry a tune and sometimes not even that!
