I MET HER AT THE AFRICAN MARKET PLACE FESTIVAL IN L.A. SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL SISTA AND HUMOROUS.I WAS WITH MY LADY I APPROACHED HER SHE LOOKED AT MY LADY AND SAID"DID SHE GIVE YOU PERMISSION"ALL THREE OF OF US LAUGHED.
She was so regal as the Jamaican mom in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. She totally could have replaced Madge Sinclair as queen mother in Coming to America 2. And ohhh That skin❣️
I got to meet her back when she was in a stage production with my cousins. That was like 2000-01. She is so gorgeous and it felt like she could see into a person’s soul.
I’m conflicted, cause the title of this video should of been “Phyllis Yvonne Stickney gets Honest about Hollywood” but instead it involves another Black Actress’s name because of course divisiveness pulls in more clicks than unity. I have to check my heart as well though, because why did I allow a divisive title to draw my attention? I have to change as well as the direction of this platform!
A lot of these sites play a huge part into mess. Comedy Hype is like a Shade Room. Doing Nothing and divide and conquer. She probably does not even know what he is getting at even in his questions and he always thinks someone will GO THERE FOR THE LOW BELT. THIS IS WHY I DO NOT LIKE COMEDY HYPE
She's my favorite comedian and actress that i still remember watching growing up on Showtime at the Apollo Movie's "Talkin' Dirty After Dark" " Die Hard With A Vengeance " " New Jack City" "Jungle Fever" "Malcolm X" "What's Love Got Do With It" "The Inkwell " "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" Television show & mini series "The Women Of Buster's Place" "New Attitude"
I just wanted to say, Phyllis, you are amazing and you've been beautiful forever. When I was a kid, seeing you do comedy on TV, made me prouder to be in my own chocolate-rich skin. Thank you!
Sister Phyllis is a real one. Her 2000's BET Comicview standup was great. Dr. Boyce Watkins mentions that book she referred to on numerous occasions. The Chicago comic she's referring to is Corey Holcomb.
Great to see Phyliss Yvonne Stickney, always my favorite always the "most real one" miss her so much she gave the young un's a history lesson SALUTE !! Great Interview
Side note. her skin is glowing..like she is shining.. every colour is being reflected off her skin 🥰😍 I mesmerised just looking at her as she moves when she talks
I never knew how black exploitation films saved Hollywood from bankruptcy . Till now .she’s very talented and knowledgeable . I really love this woman.
The Black Dollar is a strong one. We’ve just gotta monopolize it and stop giving it away. Then again, that requires that we stop hating each other too and normalize our Black & Non-Black neighbors.
The Black Dollar is limited. There is only but so much that can be drawn from Black movie goers. Tyler Perry showed what movies attracted a particular Black audience, and so far, no Black director has been able to draw out the ones who are not feeling Tyler Perry's productions.
@@thespadestable Ryan Coogler did it and so did Jordan Peele. Also, Isa Rae and Donald Glover. Tyler Perry definitely did and spoke to demographics who liked his products: Black Christians and Black Women. I’m a male and still found his work hilarious and yet got introduced to his plays via my mother. It makes sense. We do need more directors who can speak to the Black mind and make them feel seen; rather than whatever has been cranking out in Black face lately. It’s like weird liberal Black movies that Black liberal bougie college students would enjoy. It’s Black but it doesn’t really speak to the wider Black culture that Black Panther or Tyler Perry’s movies did. It’s like liberal White people are making them and making their plights annoying by being so in your face that people will just burnout with the content thus with the actual plights of Black people via a trend.
@@thespadestable This is fair. The Black Dollar is limited but we’ve seen from Black Panther how influential it is when it’s put into things Black people are actually interested in. So we’ve just got to keep doing that; while making movies quality and actually good instead of banking on Black people devoting to them simply because they’re Black. Having quality that no one can deny would be a great catalyst to show how the rest of America react; because they did. In gaming, the Japanese made Elden and it took the world by storm. You heard how other people were honestly hating. These were the same people who leaned on “meritocracy” yet had every complaint that no gamer shared. The Japanese worked hard for their passion project and it showed us how America’s prejudice actually worked. They low key haters. They want you to work; but not better than them. It’s why when Black Panther came out and exploded, everyone had every complaint in the book that wasn’t shared by the actual viewers.
Phyllis Y. Stickney is not only a Good Comedian but a Awesome Actress New Jack City, Jungle Fever, What Love Have To Do With It..... very authentic and she didn't sell her self out to meet Hollywood's status quo. 💯💯💯💯
This Phenom IS one of the most underated comics in these divided states... And I can clearly see why. If one is not willing to play the game ( and this goes for ALL entertainment industries) you'll get absolutely No Play time! Grew up with her younger bro that and believe you me... They are all comics comedians!!! Love ya #Stick 💞💜👁️🤲🏾
“I’m sure that the courtroom is enlightened by your geo political tirade but society at large is NOT on trial Mr. Brown YOU ARE!” 😉 She’s beautiful too, I think she dabbled back and forth on “The Cosby Show” and or “A Different World.”
Folks aren't ready for this type of truth. I was a professional actor for seven years and pivoted because I learned Hollywood's history and what was necessary to "make it." So, I excited stage left. My soul was not for sale, and I also was "too black" for the establishment. I hope other black performers see this truth as well. Peace & blessings.
I agree with all the points that the sister made 100 percent. I just feel like we could have had this interview without making Tiffany Haddish the main focus and to be fair this is more on the Journalist because he did not have to mention Tiffany Haddish's name, especially in the manner in which he did. For me that is poor journalism. Also it is not only Tiffany Haddish, but there also a handful of black actors and actresses who engage in very questionable things in Hollywood.
I was honored to meet her in person some years ago. She was giving me an assertive energy until she realized that I have Knowledge of Self, she acknowledged me as God and got into her divine feminine. She’s a no nonsense original woman. Nothing b.u.t. total respect for the Queen 👑 💜💎👍🏾
Oh my gosh… I was thinking of her the other day. Such a great actress, but only have seen her in supporting roles and her performance was always outstanding.
I loved this extremely beautiful, intelligent, and absolutely delightful since first seeing her speak do many years ago from the studio audience while on The Phil Donahue Show, when Minister Louis Farrakhan was a guest. She spoke nothing but 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've always had the utmost respect for this Queen Sistar: I first saw her open up for Mother Patti LaBelle in Louisville the early nineties: was fascinated by her unapologetically Blackness
Phyllis Was Never Really A Comedian. No. She Is A Black Spiritual Improv Artist. Phyllis Is Tailored Made To Do A Project On The "OWN Network".For Unique Black Gifted Women. Her Drama And Depth Was Always Much To Deep For Comedy. She Would Have Been Great On "Living Single". Make In And Out Appearances. Bible
I dislike the fact that we have these old women who try to dictate who should be who & how we should act. All I know is Tiffany is black & I am glad she’s out there representing …
Please guest star on The Black Lady Sketch Show and share your Goddess Comedic Divinty with the new generation. We need You. Thank You for Your presence and Your survival in the entertainment business. The glow on Your skin is GALACTIC.❤.
I loved Phyllis from back in the day. She represented so much to me wearing natural hair, Africancentric styles and her Intellect and humor was always on point! Thank you for this!!
Phyllis Yvonne Stickney has always been one of the coldest comedians in the game and it's nice to see she hasn't changed. She has an enormous amount of integrity and she is equally as talented.
@@flyguy7825 I don't know what point you were trying to make because it wasn't clear but this is called "Comedy Hype" and she was doing an INTERVIEW, which wasn't meant to be funny.
@@RJNumber45 Then what is she? If you listened to her interview, she said she's been a comedian for over 40 years and was at the Laugh Factory & The Comedy Story during their beginnings. She's a comedian, an actress, an activist, etc. If your goal here is to troll, you're wasting your time. I'm not going back & forth with fools.
Everytime I see Phyllis Yvonne Stickney's name on credits I know it's a quality production! Such a talent, so eloquent so graceful, a true "lioness". ❤
Spirituality and the universe are powerful. I was just wondering about her. Thank you Comedy Hype for allowing Phyllis Yvonne Stickney to share her INSIGHTFUL views! ❤️
I love her as an actress, especially in Brewster Place. All these years I watched what’s love got to do with it and I just realize she was Tina’s sister in the movie.
I remember how magnificent she was in the inkwell , then how radiant she was as an attorney in new jack city and how sublime she looked as the Jamaican mother in how Stella got her groove back. She is just a gift a superb talent and gorgeous woman.
Phyllis Yvonne Stickney is criminally underrated talent. She is such a beautiful woman and talented actress. I never understood why she wasn’t a bigger star.
Phyllis has ALWAYS been an outlier. She used her comedic performances to expose deep ceded dispositions toward dark skinned natural beauty and other issues. I remember she did a stand up gig yeeears ago where she showed a picture of her natural self emerging from water or in nature and the crowd erupted in laughter. It wasnt funny in the least bit but she low key read them in the classiest of ways but they were too asleep to even realize why the picture was probably even displayed. Even being a product of a combination of Cali culture, I understood the message or lesson from that moment/ performance.
This woman knows all the games, details and locations! I absolutely love her and her energy…. It’s no secret why she was so talented and beautiful, but was only allowed to go so far in Hollyweird! 🔥
She always drops knowledge and wisdom. She knows the history of Hollywood. She is an excellent actress and was very particular in the roles that she performed in. She’s very beautiful and unapologetically brilliant.❤❤❤
I love this woman!! She has my respect to the utmost. There are very few that understand her projection. We throw around "queen,".....she is the MFing truth...Thank you for this
I love that she didn't say that Johnathan Majors didn't do it, which is what I think the interviewer wanted her to say. She basically said that the studios knew what kind of person that he was and didn't do anything about as long as it didn't hurt their pockets. But know that its known to the public they basically tossing him under the bus.
You Baka! Obviously, you haven't been paying attention as you should have been. Because I can definitely say innocent until proven guilty! The Small Hats and Caucasians shouldn't just have that right! 😮
💯 And they'll feed your weakness then use it against you. I'm not even trying to be famous or be in Hollywood but that last part of the interview still sent chills down my spine because it's true for a lot of systems and groups.
I love Phyllis, and I agree I think Tiffany played her cards wrong. She had such a sad beginning story, everyone felt sorry about that and wanted her to WIN, and big, she played herself to be a slap stick minstrel show.
I absolutely love everything about her! I remember watching Jungle Fever as a kid (definitely shouldn't have been allowed to watch that back then 😂) and her energy and style and still is was EVERYTHING! This interview is awesome ❤💐💐💐
She's beautiful and regal beyond words! Such an intelligent and queenly prescence! The hair braiding scene in The Inkwell still brings me to tears! So strong and emotional.
