Can I just say you're gonna love the abyss. It was one of the best underwater films that year. The film reminds me of close encounters underwater. Still got my steelbook dvd from 1991 with tons of content .so glad now to see it on 4k.
Ken, John Wayne among others were in The Alamo from 1970. That one is still not even on Blu-ray. Hopefully, with the release of The Shootist, 1976, we will get that soon as well. John's first major role in a movie was The Big Trail, 1930. Before that, he did some smaller roles starting in 1928.
That "love-making" scene btw the paraplegic main character & assistant came out of nowhere. As a kid I watched Monkey Shine with my parents and boy, was that an awkward moment. Also the movie has Stanley Tucci's early role and Janine Turner (cheating girlfriend) of Northern Exposure fame.
My Dark Water and Shootist shipped today. I was super annoyed that I got an email from Arrow saying they cancelled my pre-order because of a system error and I had to re-order, only to find the version of Dark Water with the original artwork I’d pre-ordered on December 15 was now sold out. But, it is what it is.
@@anaerobic Me too. I like to keep every piece of paper that came in the box. Even if there’s a special sticker on the shrink wrap, I cut it out and put it inside the box.
@@ThisName-e9e Fine not to understand but it's rude to make assumptions and call people names like "hoarder". Also, it's not "hoarding" if it takes no extra space or effort.
I think it is a bit silly that when I buy used bluray's and dvd's that whomever owned them previously has kept every single piece of everything. I've seen the actual celiphane folded up inside the case. It doesn't add value like a slip cover. All that paper and advertising paper and digital code stuff goes directly into the trash except if the code hasn't been redeemed. LOL
@@ThisName-e9e I usually don't redeem the codes but if I did, I would keep them anyway. It would take more effort to pull them out and walk them over to the trash. I only cut stickers from shrink wrap if they are unique to the release (for example, the "director approved" Criterion ones with the specific director's signature). They are a unique part of the packaging and it takes only seconds. Also, why does it bother you what I do?
Your right I didn't remember the green trim around the bar at the end I checked out my dvd and there is a amazing difference on the blu-ray last night I watched this and venagars five card stud it was a cowboy night
I like the Monkey Shines artwork. I considered purchasing this because I own most of Romero’s work but it’s not the greatest. I passed. I’d like to see Bruiser and Knightriders get a 4K.
Not sure if youll see this message but be careful with When Evil Lurks. There is an abrupt scene involving a young child getting hurt and thought you hould be aware.
I have dvd of SHOOTIST. Will get Blu-ray as I met actor Hugh O’Brian who is in this movie, and I knew him -and his wife- personally. Met him in 1988 and was invited to his house in Beverly Hills in December 2006 for 90 minutes as his wife made us soup and I washed dishes in his kitchen! Nice guy. Called my house couple times afterwards. Oh! And I met James Stewart in March 1986 at st Patrick’s day parade in Beverly Hills, CALIFORNIA! Got picture and autograph.
Ken, don’t know if you have seen it yet, but some Disney Movie Club releases are showing up at Walmart. I snagged a few myself. It doesn’t look like any of the yellow spine releases are in store though.
I'm getting back into physical media and I really enjoy your channel and others. Is there a place I can find all boutique stores, 3rd party sellers, or other places I can find the best versions of bluray films? Also, why don't they release both the new 4k AND bluray versions of movies? Thanks!
Ken, I’d love to see a full review of Phase lV, I’ve been thinking about picking it up. I’d like to know what you think about 5 Card Stud. Some say it’s one of Roddy best performances. I hear it’s a great transfer and looks really nice. I love me some Westerns!
Time codes? Perfect solution. (Are you sure this great idea didn't spring from Mrs. Mid? Hee-hee!) Eddie Murphy? BH Cop is a masterwork next to his "trilogy of trash" - Norbit, Meet Dave, and Pluto Nash! BTW, I visualized a guy digging in a coal mine - when Ken glugged some water and said, "Doin' these videos is always very rough!" Umbrella? With that rotten rating sticker still in the way. Region B - uh-oh!
“Meet Joe Black” was released more than a decade after “Starman”. So it couldn’t be an influence. “Joe Black” is a remake of “Death Takes a Holiday” so that could be an influence but it was released in 1934, 50 years before Starman. The original is a well-known classic, so it’s possible.
With Wonka, I don’t think Chalamet was trying to imitate Gene. Canonically there’s about 30 years of history between those two characters, so it wouldn’t make any sense for him to feel the same. That’s my take, anyway.
I've been cutting back on my purchases this year. You seem be going the opposite way. Its easy to fall into the trap of buying discs just to provide content.
I mean if you watched the video, I talked about and reviewed quite a few that I showed off and also watched. I've also watched more since filming this on Monday. Not that I have to explain myself to random internet Bobby.😎
He does watch a lot. In this specific video, he talked about watching many of the movies he mentioned. Obviously, he can't watch them all, at least, not right away.
