Virtualization is definitely becoming more and more popular due to its associated benefits. In this video I demonstrate the process of visualizing physical Server using VMware vCenter Standalone Converter.

A link to download the software would be helpful. I am failing to find it.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Was this an active server, meaning were users accessing files and making updates during the conversion period of 3 days? If so, how did you reconcile changes to data that occurred during that 3 day window?

Hi yes this once a live file server, the data however is store on an external SAN, the new server still points to that SAN, so the user data was not affected. Good question btw!

@@JoshuasTechTips Wow, ok. 16.2 TB of local data was a lot. I can't imagine what's on that SAN... lol. Thanks for the response.

@@Bill_CBR lol yeah in the past we used the Server to store user files, so after the demo I further optimized the new vm and removed the drives that were not needed

Hello brother, As im studying Computer Sciences, in future i want to be a Microsoft system administrator/engineer So does i need to learn more about virtualization and cloud like Azure and Vmware, or i need to learn also about physical Servers?? I would be happy if you give me advice about this job profile. Peace

Definitely I would advise you to at least have some foundational knowledge about both virtualization and cloud infrastructure, since they are both integral to most modern networks.

If I Convert P2V on a local machine, does the local machine stay up and running?

If the virtual machine is stored on the local machine, then yes the local machine needs to be running
