Having a physical copy of the gane used to be fun they actually had the instruction manual. You know they would Hage instructions on how to play the game. Pictures, art, maybe some lore. Some type of backstory. They might have included a map. They would put cool art that you could flip to see from outside the gane case
Awesome video. I own games both physically and digitally. When I am buying a game, I compare prices and most of the times, physical games are cheaper. So, I lean towards physical games.
Because you can’t game share physical games. If you had a partner then digital is the way to go. Let’s say Spider-Man is $30 physical and $40 digital. I’d rather buy it for $40 for 2 people than to pay $60.
Digital games are actually cheaper theres always a sale going on in the xbox and PlayStation store they have huge 75% off deals constantly i got Last of part 2 for only $10 along with Gow 2k18 $10 and miles morales for $20
For digital games, once they're removed they can be gone forever. Activision used to have a ton of licensed games like Legend of Korra, Transformers: Rise of Cybertron and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance now they're removed from digital stores you will never be able to play them unless you already own them digitally or own a physical copy. For games like Legend of Korra, you can't ever own it ever again unless you bought the game before Activision removed it.
Personally, I'm a mix of both. I think it's nice to have the collector's edition of a game in physical, with the accessories and everything. But, if I'm just getting a regular games with no extra perks, I'm gonna have to go with digital. With XBOX Game Pass and PlayStation Plus on the rise, I don't see a better option.
I switched to digital only in 2019 and have loved it ever since. No swapping and searching for a disk I had put in a box years ago. It’s a lot better for me personally.
The best option is to have both digital & physical.. you have more choices for prices.. especially when some online stores dont actively adjust prices alongside the retail stores. Or maybe they do, but they use it as a marketed "sale" when it's simply just not worth as much anymore. Ive saved lots of money by getting digital or physical depending on what the official store has (if an actual sale) versus stores like amazon and wal mart that simply always list it cheaper than launch
just buy a disk edition console regardless.. you can still buy digital games and buy second hand disks for games you'd like to experience but don't want to pay full price for..
The whole video my thought was "Man this guy has such a good gaming setup for convenience." It's great to have all 4 platforms with such ease of access.
I love collecting physical games, but since I have to move to a new small place, and will need to move more in the future, I decided to go digital with Ps5 and physical with Switch, because at least the cartridges are smaller, doesn’t take much place, and easier to carry around. I may buy physical version again if it’s CE or when I have my own house to display my games
Yeah shelf space is a main issue with physical games. This isn't the 90's where you bought maybe 10-15 games for each gen as a kid. There are a lot more video games now & you'll easily buy 100+ games just because they are cheaper & have more. So going digital solves that space problem.
@@WyvernsAreDragons it’s listed for 39.99 in my Walmart. Physical is always gonna be cheaper even if you don’t do retail you’ve got 3rd party options like marketplace, Amazon, mecari 🤷🏽
I prefer digital , because It is more portable and you can jump from one game to another in a few seconds you don’t have to change any disc or cartridges, moreover your games gets update from time to time , however due to beauty of physical games such as the front cover or some of them comes with especial edition , then I get physical version too . This is only with my favorite games such Zelda breath of the wild .or elder ring on play station
For me it depends on the console. For example, starting with the PS4, I am all digital. I do have some physical but that was before I made this decision to go all in for that system. I have an external hard drive and no concerns with space. As for the Switch, I try to go physical if there is a physical copy available as the game does not need to pre-load which then acts more like a cartridge. Basically, if the game has to be completely loaded off the disk in order to work and you’re only using the disk for license confirmation, I would 100% go with the digital copy instead.
Owning the game is best for me , I always wait for sales especially black Friday sales , I've been a gamer since atari pong , who knew gaming would get this big
The best thing of digital could be if its an old game you want to play it, like 8-10 mínimum years old, because most of them are remastered for new gen consoles, so in the marketplace those new remastered games in “physical” are kind rare and because are old, no much people are playing them so at this point the resale value for physical format isnt worth it… in the other side if you want play most of the new games, i think is totally worth it buying them in physical because of the cost / benefit, you can buying it used in excellent condition at good price and reselling it if you want it in 3 or 4 years at least, and also the physical is worth it if you are a collectionist or like certain game so much so you buy the collectors editions, those are the 2 most important reasons if you are consider to buy physical games, digital its the future tbh
I spent all my ps4 era buying digital copies conly. Now with a ps5 I started buying physical copies because I miss when I was wounger and had a ps1 and nintendo 64 and had all the cases. I only got a ps5 few weeks ago and only have 3 games which are Demons Souls, R&C Rift Apart and Miles Morales. I platinumed Elden Ring digital but still want to get the physical copy someday.
About Nr 5. You have more control to perserve the physical game than perserving the digital game. For digital game - publisher have more control over your digital games, like The Crew situation.
Both, but definitely leaning more towards physical because it feels like you actually own the game, and will for the foreseeable future, so long as you don't scratch or damage your media. Nintendo is shutting down their 3DS shop March 2023 so there's proof enough that digital doesn't always stick around forever. If you really love a game, buy physical AND digital.
@@jameshill5458 But don’t forget that in the case of the PS4, there are some physical games that offer an upgrade to the PS5 so you technically aren’t buying said game twice. And I believe you can still keep the PS4 as well as the PS5 version.
By the time the store closes homebred will be a viable option. Literally nobody uses the 3ds store because you can get every game ever released on itfor free. 3ds homebred uses no soldering, no purchasing of parts and no technical knowledge as its a very well documented field.
I personally prefer physical, because then I have less fear about heckers or if my console ever breaks,... But I think that's mainly because of the price. I also often buy used games and then you can get a pearl for almost no money. I must also say that I am a switch gamer (and also other nintendo consoles such as the wii). So if it's different on another console, that's certainly possible.
I personally think that i would go best if i had both, the games i don't play much can be physical and the games i'm likely to play a lot digital, or the opposite. it is nice
Well I'm definitely both... New game...if Id like to try difinitely psychical. Incase I don't like I can just resell. Great games I like really like I usually goes both. Get psychical just as collection and play digitally. Especially if the physical offer more limited Ed. Like TEKKEN7 & Uncharted 😅
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that you run out of storage way quicker when you go all digital. Having to delete and reinstall games is a chore versus having a physical version where most of the game data is on the disk instead.
I recommend getting an external hard drive to help deal with that issue, I have an 8T external hard drive permanently connected to my Xbox series x... so whenever I run out of space, I just move one of my larger game(s) or games that I no longer play to my external drive.
Many times I end up buying the Argentina version of a game as its way cheaper than physical and digital. Don’t mean to disrespect Argentina in any way btw, I truly appreciate it.
I do both physical and digital but would prefer the physical whenever possible. It now depends on where I can save money. If its cheaper digital then I go digital, if its cheaper physically then physical I go. Also, I bought HDD for my consoles so I don't have to delete games when the console disk drive is full, that way its easier and faster to play games.
i live in india so a game disc cost 3000 rupees and ps5 plus subscription cost 5000 rupees for 12 months so its like 10 games for less money if ur indian i recommend ps5 digital
I could be wrong but I remember as a kid getting games brand new that had colored instruction manuals, memory card holder cases and extra things like maps or promos for new games coming out w/ amazing detail. Now I haven’t bought a physical copy game in a while but the last time I did it just felt so boring and meaningless, it made me question why I should go to a store to buy a game when I have I have to spend an hour downloading it regardless of if I went to the store or not. My last games were nba 2k17, Bioshock collection, Assassins creed odyssey and Evil Within 2.
Combination of both. I only go physical for the games that aren’t available digitally. And those are usually on previous generations. But if I become available digitally I’ll trade in the physical. Example, the Ratchet and Clank Collection and the Jak And Daxter Collection.
I usually go digital for the convenience unless it's games I'm extremely passionate about and want to display in my home. For example, I bought a physical copy of Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends just to have it in my display cabinet despite already having it digitally on two platforms lol
90% physical, 10% digital. The only time I’ll buy digital is if it’s significantly cheaper than physical or if the physical copy can’t be found. In the early days of the pandemic, Sony was giving Uncharted for free in the PS store, but I went out and paid $10 for the physical copy anyway
I think the main con I have about digital is the point your games can be taken away by either the company or a hacker and if you buy a game you can't get a refund once you download it. This is the problem with playstation, don't know about the rest of the companies when it comes to refunds. Also now that most games don't come with nothing or just a piece of paper(an advertisement or a dlc) it's doesn't quite matter no more about getting it physical. I just wish for refunds they would have a demo for all the games or a 2 day refund policy/ a day refund policy. If digital wants to be the future they are going to have to have a great refund policy, people should have fast internet, games not being taken away, and have demos for all of their games. Later on I will be buying this console called the polymega for retro games. I really like the fact that if you have the game physically, you can also have it digitally without needing to put the discs/cartridge in the console again. They also have a digital shop. Additionally the console can play the NES, SNES, PS1, Genesis, and so forth if they have that console included. You can also save your game and rewind back + the graphics are improved. You can also use the original controller for that console instead of buying their controllers. I just wish I would have got the polymega on pre-order when it was more cheap like in the $200 range. Anyway I usually go with both physical and digital. Most of my games are physical and a few are digital. The digital games are mainly online games which only 3 I paid for and others were free.
I think the only time that you would permanently lose a digital game would be if you bought an "online only" type of game... I believe games that have an offline mode or don't require a permanent internet connection to play are safe and can't be removed from your account... that's how I buy all my games, if it doesn't have an offline mode then I don't buy it 🤷♂️...
Physical is always better than digital. You pay for a product you can actually hold in your hands. Overtime physical copies become cheaper while digital versions can sit on the original retail price for at least a year. If you don't like the game you bought physically you can resell it or trade it in and get (some of) your money back. With a digital purchase, you're entitled to that game you don't like forever in most cases. No refunds of sorts. Physical releases cut down waiting times as you don't have to download the entire game. The only advantage with digital is it's much more convenient.
I think the main I have about digital is the point your games can be taken away by either the company or the hacker and if you buy a game you can't get a refund once you download it. I'm fine to switch to digital it's the future after all but....Removing physical games from shops also removes the competion between stores which can also drives prices down. Also you cannot buy second hand and finally you cannot lend or borrow. Sony is aware of these things and basically wants full control if the market. This will mean higher prices with no other options. For the thess reasons it's best to keep buying physical to keep the market alive and consumer friendly.
Sorry no offence intended but I disagree with your comment about digital being the future. It’s definitely not the future and the only reason it hypothetically is, is because we’re allowing it. And not only that, but then I hope people are okay with everyday people losing their jobs in these games stores because people can’t be bothered to go to said store to get a game off a shelf. Because that’s the way we’re heading if we keep going down this road.
With playstation I have a mix of both but more digital while woth Nintendo I always go digital unless there's a massive discount because I don't want to lose them
One very relevant aspect I don't see mentioned in this discussion is that in the long term console's disc drives are prone to failure and have to be fixed or replaced. So if you only have physical games you have to rely on your disc drive not to have any malfunction, whereas with digital games you don't even need one to be able to play your games. This will also be important for people like myself that like to keep and play older consoles and older games, specially in the Playstation ecosystem where retrocompatability has not been always assured.
The cost of repairing the disc drive is less than the cost of buying games digitally in the long run. Used physical triple As titles are often $20-30 off as opposed to digital ones.
Physical easily, imagine buying a new game for $70 and it turns out to be shit but you can’t return it. Physical discs have resale value and can save you a LOT of money in the long run. PS Plus games are the only ones I download digitally
I miss collecting physical games. Ever since the pandemic I been downloading digitally and I'm starting to find it quick and boring compered to just popping the game in and playing it like I used to.
There are 3,454 cheap used ps4 cd games that end up in the used bargain bins sooner or later. The Blu-Ray drive is also a 4k movie player. I bought a used CD of Horizon Forbidden West for $30 from a used bargain bin that game is $80 at sony online store.
Multiplayers I go digital since when I played Modern warefare 2019 I had a ton of disk issues. But for the big single player titles like god of war I go physical because they mean more to me. Switching disk is annoying so Ill keep gow in the disk slot and mw2 installed on the console . Only other time I do physical is when I find a great deal on eBay.
When I worked in the Philippines it could take days to download a game as the speed was ment to be 100Mbp but I was getting 5 to 7Mbps. In Malaysia where I love now it's 950 to 980Mbps with my 1Gb account so downloads take minutes not days so much better.
I'm conflicted i have a tongue of games for my ps4 Both Digital and physical and can you use streaming services like Netflix and Disney plus on the Physical edition or do i need to have the digital edition
In digital version when we buy games online, arr we paying just once ? Or do we need to pay as monthly rental ? Also if the game was once downloaded can any one remove it from our ps5 console?
So i was thinking about going back 2 physical after being a digital collector 4 almost 3 years since recently one of my favorite games onrush is no longer on the ps4/5 or xbox store so that is the only way i can play it since i have a physical copy of the game but since i want 2 be eco friendly i will stick 2 digital copys of video games
Physical is best...the one major thing it has over digital is resell value. If you buy all digital, well then you won't ever be able to try and make any money off of them.
I mean if I’m getting a single player game, then that’s I’m getting the physical copy. Any multiplayer game is where I’ll buy it online as it would need internet either way for you to play it
I'm not sure about the xbox platform but when sharing digital games u can't be logged in at 2 locations, if ur friend logs into psn while ur playing u will be instantaneously be logged out told that u have logged into another ps4 and loose all progress in the current title
About the arguments: 1 - Material editions are better because, at the same price, we really own it. (...not because it is cheaper, many times the inverse happening...) 2 - Physical is not only better because we can resell them, but because we can dispose of them, whether keeping, sharing, giving them... 3 - The limitations of physical editions about the digital content included is invalid, for the evident reason that this is talking about the included digital content, having the same digital inconvenients, which should not be included in a physical edition. 4 - Availability is a false question, if we compare a material edition to an edition that does not exists, but is only accessible via a license in a specific virtual store. 5 - Comparing durability of a material edition to having none is irrelevent, since, of course, we can not break a game disc with a digital purchase, we have none ! If anything, we keep temporary access, not ownership. Meanwhile, this is without mentioning the dependance of an account and the not eventual, but inevitable closure of the online service giving access to the game via license. 6 - About convenience, the "incomplete" argument comes from the editon's incompletion, that should leave a functionnal game anyway, which is better than nothing left at the end of the service. Also, digital implies a costly storage in the form of hard drives if we want to keep them all, even after being delisted. 7 - About ecology, again owning something versus nothing is not an equation, and if we would want to compare, we would have to measure the impact of all the digital system "ecosystem", from the installation of cables into the oceans to the cost of servers buildings running constantly. 8 - Beauty is a strange way to aboard the question of ownership of an object, when, this time it was mentioned, the alternative in not owning it. 9 - About speed, a digital version is far from "a complete download from the beginning"; any player know how much times frequent updates become mandatory. 10 - About backwards compatibility, it is still functional on most of the consoles having proposed it, but this is a commercial stake for enterprises, who may remove it at once materially and digitaly to make more profit. Also, we may have to purchase it once more digitally, when a version replace a preceeding one. Nb. It was not mentioned how digital editions may limit the access to our familily, when many content purchases are attributed to a sole profile or account. Also, there are distinctions to do between integral editions and the diverse forms of content dependant of an online service, partially or entirely. An let us not start talking about the so-called "free" games and their unsold paid content... About physical editions, it is the better option, but this is said with a full comprehension of the personnal reasons leading many to rely to digital access sometimes. However, let us be vigilant.
The only reason I buy game on release at these insane prices, is to physicaly own them. If they go digital I'm never buying anything over 20$. It might not be the majority of people thinking this way but going digital will really hurt first week sales, will close stores and kill the collecting hobby only so the billionaires behind Microsoft, sony and nintendo make a buck.😒
It's a Mix for Me. Eg I would definitely prefer to have say Tomb raider trilogy or Mass Effect Legendary Edition and other bundles digitally and a few games that I always play Eg Fifa. But the rest I don't mind having a physical copy.
he failed to mention game developers lose their license for certain franchised game characters and the only way to get those legally games is on physical media. Games like Deadpool can only be bought on physical disc because Activision lost the rights to the character. Playstation and Xbox removed the game a few years back from its digital store.
I have a mix of both. But disc overall wins imo. Disc you can take to a friends house and let them borrow it. You can re-sell disc versions. Last reason, but only applies to backwards capabilities, if I buy a PS 4 game for my wife, I can also play it on my ps5. Can’t do that with digital.
There are 3,454 cheap used ps4 cd games that end up in the used bargain bins sooner or later. The Blu-Ray drive is also a 4k movie player. I bought a used CD of Horizon Forbidden West for $30 from a used bargain bin that game is $80 at sony online store.
Just bought a PS4 game (Red Dead 2) as a gift for a co-worker. I don't think you can do that with digital without some personal info which means, no surprise.🤔
Here’s why I choose digital o play gta 5 on disc and sometimes when I try to play it says insert disc I always have to restart my console I had to drag the disc across the floor and it works again
Dude idk why people say buying games digitally is more expensive, I bought the crash and spyro trilogy bundle for around 25 bucks on sale. That's a steal.
What about install time? Skyrim on disc took 3 seconds ps4, Sekiro ps4 disc took 5 min on ps4, god of war 3 ps4 disc took 4 seconds. Idk about PS5 but ps4 disc install times r 10x faster and some of them r just near instant.
Its easy to get Digitally,i am Physical Copy guy cause i treat th3 disk like a game trophy but as you said it can be damaged, scratched if stored carelessly since 2016 but its just now i bought my very 1st Digital copy cause i cant get out of the house to go buy a physical, having amputated leg sucks.😂i will make sure that the Digital games i will own from today will be played non stop because like you said we cant sell it unlike Physical. I sold alot of my physical games so i got back most of mu money but i would like to collect digital games that means i will select the digital games it would stay forever and not buy those games that o know i will grow out of of cause i cant sell it
I haven't bought a physical game since 2013 and since then just switched over to buying all my games digital on ps4 / ps5 Only time I ever buy discs nowadays is for my ps1, ps2 and sum for ps3 depending on the game
Right now, I'm doing digital games. But I needed to reset my PS5 with a different email, but I'd loose a hundred dollars worth of games! So I'm going back to physical disc, that way I can do as I please with my account without losing all of my games, unlike digital. Don't get me wrong, I love the ease of digital, but I can't reset!! I just can't reset without the same email and trophy's, as I wanted to lose some of the trophies and I can't do it without a reset to a different email account.
I only get digital games that have some replayability ie gta red dead elden ring but games like 2k fifa I get physical coz I’ll sell them immediately the next one is released
I have a mixture of Physical and Digital For me it just depends on the game and prices Example...my Switch has mostly Digital games cause there are a lot of great deals on the Eshop But my PS3 has a ton of Physical Games cause I'm finding alot of them cheap or really good deals Then I do have a few Collector Editions of Physical Games as well of some of my favorite gaming franchises and series So again for me it just depends on the game basically and the price to either buy it Physically or Digitally, and if it's a Collectors Edition of my favorite game series
More on the physical side for me because you don't really own the digital copies of your games because the platforms could take it away without a single notice only have a couple of digital games only because sales on that day
Let’s be real here. If one day users would report that Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo, took paid games from their accounts that would be a scandal. With a massive backlash on the company’s credibility and consumers trust. Apart from hugely tanking their shares and probably getting the Antitrust involved. Which would result in millions of dollars lost, for nothing.
Id say it depends on pricing i picked digital copies of the arkham series for 4.99!! It felt illegal to reject that but also cover art and especially steelbook copies of games absolutely SLAP
In NZ Digital copies are like $70 more than physical copies, I don’t get it. I love the convenience of digital, but new releases are so much cheaper in the stores. So it’s a no brained new games physical, old games good sales on digital sales.
I, personally, don’t care if it’s digital or physical. I buy what’s cheaper. Don’t buy a lot of games since I use GamePass and PlayStation Plus. But the ones that I personally buy on both platforms, are mixed. On Xbox I have everything digital. I buy keys that are way cheaper than physical. On PlayStation I have mostly physical as PSN digital is more expensive, and keys are nowhere to be found.
When I get bored of a console or a new one comes out I sell my old collection. I just sold my switch games on eBay for $2,500. Why the hell would I want to be stuck with a huge collection of digital games I can never resell and won’t play again…? Psh.
