Finally finished free fall series! I feel a bit more confident now for the upcoming quiz on physics! I hope to come here to your channel more in the future hoping my lessons will align in your video, your best in explaining things (and suprisingly even 9 years has passed bro is still standing 🫡, subscribed ofc for this absolute chad of his effort for us) Question: I dont recall if you used the 1st equation among the four equations presented (or I just fail to remember it)... so it means that if you have 4 of the given (with "a") you will have an option to use that equation and also the other equation with it at the same time? (Sorry if my question is a bit confusing because it was rushed, my mom already asked me to sleep a few times while I was watching the vids one by one)

no, thank YOU, this helps me understand so much, just in time for my midterm tomorrow. You're a grade saver, man! (I hope) I might let you know how I did when I get my grade. My professor and the book are horrible, the book is overly complex by trying to simplify things and makes me more confused. The teacher asks questions first then tells us how to answer them. His homework assignments are on material he hasn't covered yet so I have no idea how to find the information and I don't have time to read the whole book, I work full time. But I love youtube, and your explanation covered what he tried to explain over 2 weeks... Yeah. So, I look forward to watching the rest of your videos. Too bad you weren't around 30 some odd years ago when I was in high school, maybe I would have enjoyed school.

Here in this problem why we are taking a = - 9.81m/s^2. We are calcuting the upward motion of object. so it has to be a = 9.81m/s^2

Common mistake, but.....no, the acceleration due to gravity (g) is always negative because it point down which we take to be the negative direction. Does that help?

Shouldn't the maximum height be 28.5m plus the initial height 17m??
@stepbystepscience
@stepbystepscience 5 лет назад
No, when you solve the equation shown in the video you get 11.5 m but then you have to add the initial height of 17.0 m to that. So the total is 28.5 m.

How to do a free fall problem if my only given the height and i need to find out the time something traveled
@stepbystepscience
@stepbystepscience 4 года назад
I believe you do it like all of the others. Maybe only the height is stated in the problem, but you also know that the initial velocity is 0 m/s and that the acceleration is equal to the acceleration due to gravity which is 9.81 m/s2. Does that help?

I have a question. When you calculated the total time the ball stays in the air. Why did you only use delta y = 17m?. Should we use 28.5 to calculate the total time the ball stay in the air since 28.5m is the total distance that the ball stay in the air? Thank you.
@stepbystepscience
@stepbystepscience 7 лет назад
lam nguyen good question, Delta Y is really the change in Position not the distance. From where the ball starts to where it ends there is a change in position of -17m
@lamnguyen-bi8jm
@lamnguyen-bi8jm 7 лет назад
uhm! It seems a little bit counter-intuitive to use the change in position, not the actual distance the ball stay in the air, to calculate the time the ball stays in the air. Anyway, thank you very much for your promt respond.

@stepbystepscience
