In the real world can a capacitor eventually become weary of being repeatedly charged and discharged and finally become less effective or actually wear out? You don't talk about heat loss, so I conclude that any heat loss would be unnoticable.

Read about ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). Real life capacitors have resistance from their leads, electrodes, and because no insulator is perfect; resistive losses through their dielectric. All of these result in watts loss that increase with temperature.
