Three days ago I never played the piano in my life. I Am 55 years old. I've always dreamed of playing the piano. Day 1 I found your first beginner video 4 notes, GCCE, I spent day one practising until I could do with my eyes closed and I got my speed up. Day 2 your video of 4 chord progressions. Practised all day yesterday. I practised until I could play with my eyes closed using the shapes in my head. I nearly cried it felt so wonderful I am actually playing music. My husband cannot believe how good I sound. Today I move on to this lesson. Thank you so much. I cannot express enough gratitude. I feel musical. It is beautiful 😍
I appreciate this. I am self-taught. I never allow anyone to hear me butchering the classics. Now, I will be able to WOW them instead of staying silent. Thanks a bunch!
Just improvising over a nice chord progression is what I (a total beginner at the age of 45, coming from the guitar) love and what I do when I'm on a dead end with piano lessons. Helps me alot in just keeping the Instrument alive and fun.
One of your very best lessons, Zach! You casually snuck in a couple of inversions that make this progression so much easier to navigate, and the left hand rhythm at the end really amps it up. Great job!
OMG. Thank you so much for explaining these different patterns. I took piano lessons as a child but didn't return to playing again until 30 years later. I was taught on classical music, but I never learned any chords! Fast forward those 30 years and now I can play chords and I've written several songs for the piano, but it is always just me playing full chords with the left hand and the melody with the right. Now I can start to jazz it up with these new playing techniques. Thank you so much for posting this video and sharing your knowledge. I really, really appreciate it! ❤🎹
Excellent first lesson! The next thing i would add would be reversing the bottom and middle keys in the right hand pattern so it's descending, which also sounds really nice
Ok, I got my first keyboard 2 weeks ago and am a complete beginner. I have watched your video on loop and have practiced for about 2 hours now and I think I am at Level 2.5 (ish - lol). I cant believe how hard it is to get left hand and right hand to work together, my head understands a simple instruction but my fingers don't want to work. You have a new subscriber in me, thank you so much for your instruction videos they are really helping.
This is very nice..I can almost practice chords❤ Thank you so much for uploading the video Can you help by playing some hymns, Christian songs if possible 😊
dude, I just remembered this nice song a few days ago, and started listening to it again after some time. kudos for your effort! I'll let you know right now I'll send you an email asking for the song in advance
I know for example in c, Cm, Cb, C#, Cbm, C#m, C7, Cm7, C#7 and Cb7. And I want to learn like Csus4 and Cdim. I just have to figure out the logistics of the chords
Saw a documentary about Paul McCartney from the Beatles, he said that he can't read sheet music at all! He's done pretty well without it, hasn't he. Great tutorials Zach, they help so much 👍☕
Love your enthusiasm. I'm 72 and decided to learn the piano. I have never played any instrument and don't know how to read music. But always wanted to learn the piano. So loving your cheat sheets. I started practicing and found that in your ultimate beginner piano cheat sheet, the C major is played with CEG, But in your Iconic Songs Cheat Sheet the Taylor Swift C Major is E G C, same notes but different fingers. Why are they not the same.?
I Love that music can be so simple, but sound so complex. Who knew big pop songs were just block chords with a little pizzazz 😂 Thanks for the video Zach! I suppose it's time for me to start my new key for the week. On to E major!
Loved this tutorial!! I get it. Question? Once you have inverted a chord, how do you tell by looking at it, which chord it is, since I usually tell by the bottom note
This is awesome. That said, however, when I played So Sick of Love Songs for my senior friends they looked like deer caught in headlights (crickets) (chuckles). Sorry couldn't help myself (snickers). Seriously though, this is some GOOD SHIZ man! I will be plugging this video in soon while I practice. I can see the benefits. Thanks Zach.
I'm just bought digital piano on last Saturday , And come to your channel , thing is I don't know which video I need to learn first. If anyone here see this comment , please guide me.
I played piano with lessons reading sheet music age 5-16 and then stepped away until 32. When I picked it up again, I was saddened by how much skill was lost. Then my friend showed me how to play using chords and it was life changing! I wish I would have started this way…. It allows the musician to tap into their creative side so much easier and takes the brain out of it. What a service your teachings are… thank you! 🙏🏻🤠💗
OM GOSH! Don't send Zach a hat cuz you just inflated his head beyond production designs (laughing). Truly though, you're right, the chord shapes not only sound great but teach the shapes you'll be using in most non classical music.
That happens to so many people! The "conventional" way is to start with sheet music, but the reality is for most people who want to learn their favorite songs from the radio, learning chords is a way better way to start. Then you can always learn sheet music later on *if* you want to
this is probably a stupid question, but how do you know where the A Minor, F Major, C Major, and G Major start? I know you said the D key is always between the two black keys, so i've been trying to figure it out like that, but idk where it starts at if that makes sense. Or does it just start over after G major? I'm not sure if any of this is making sense. I think i just need to see someone play it with an overhead shot of the full piano so i can really learn.
I am new to playing the piano. Any suggestions which keyboard to buy, looking for something mid range. It will need a Bluetooth function so I dont wake up the neighborhood. Many thanks.
Do you have any videos showing how to play the chords by finger? I just want to practice playing and building muscle memory with C D E F G A B obviously triad chords. I need to know/visually see I'm playing each chord correctly. Don't want to memorize wrong finger technique. Hope this makes sense. A 3 part vid would be cool. One showing the major chords. One minor. And the third showing rhythm exercises with the chords. 12 123 1234 1-12...3 if this makes sense. All this with just chords and correct finger positioning for all chords: CDEFGAB
So for chords, you'll use both fingerings depending on the situation. It mainly matters what chord you're playing *next* - if the top note goes UP in the next chord, you'll want to use 124 so that you can use 5 on the next chord. If not, often times people use 135. But either way is fine!
Underage involvement, probably a s*xual encouter. Joke. The age of consent varies place to place, and most people misuse the p-word (what fake "Prophet" Muhammad, peace not upon him, was lol 💀). Shalom. @@imaginelookingatthisrn
