Piano Montuno
in this piano lesson im going to show you how to play another Montuno for piano role
we are going to learn how to play the montuno in 3 basic steps
in the second part of the video lesson i will show you how to combine a Tumbao (bass line role) with your left hand

yes I watched the video, so let me see if I understand if we are playing with a bass player should we do the same thing from the right hand to the left hand? I really like this one. It shows how to include so many tricks and ideas to make it sound interesting. Even down to that last chromatic lick from the B major chord leading back up to the Em. Makes me wonder if it's even possible to add anything more for interest. But I never cease to be surprised...hahaha

Fun to try to play! Have the Montuno and Tumbao started. Need to improve and combine. Question: For the Tumbao, why do you count "1 and 4". I'm only familiarwith counting in sequence such as "1, 2, 3, 4" or "1 and 2 and 3 and 4"

In this progression the Tumbao role played on the "and" of the 2, 4 This is the classic way to play tumbao. That's what make it sound so interesting

Thanks Alejandro 🙏The truth is that I am originally a percussionist. I learned my knowledge in my travels around the world, and my great love is salsa. I usually play alone and not with a band, that's why I play like this and not like the conventional way.

C'est un tumbao, pas un montuno, le montuno correspond au moment où la campana (cloche) entre dans la chanson et où les chœurs interviennent et alternent avec les 'pregón' (impros de la.le chanteuse.eur). Le tumbao c'est le pattern, et il ne tombe quasi jamais sur le temps.

Pour la basse et pour le piano, le pattern s'appelle le tumbao. Le nom n'est pas différent. Le montuno c'est une partie de la chanson, generalement la fin, ce qui danse le plus.

Your montuno is wrong; On the second bar ("3" side of the clave) all the notes should be on the "and" of each beat and not on the 3rd and 4th beat. More north american than cuban. Especially when you pretend to teach.
