Thank you Milo. It is definitely hard, and there are quite a few places here where I doubt whether I did the best I could, or whether I elaborated a passage enough. Yet, on the whole I am happy enough with the result, in that it does, to my ear too, sound lively enough throughout. But there’s nothing like getting that confirmed from the other side of the fence, so, again, many thanks for your feedback Milo.
@@toniocomposer Yes, well we all have those doubts. No one is ever truly happy with what they write. What also surprised me about the piece is how great it sounded, because man, having chamber music sound good in StaffPad is so difficult (I really dislike the way my string quartets sound), but I really got lost in the performance here a couple of times.
Yes, it is definitely easier to get good results when writing orchestral scores. But, in this respect, I didn’t encounter too many hurdles when writing this music. The rendering is always acceptable, and often considerably more than that. It does matter which instruments you choose. I don’t think I’d have gotten very good results here using the Berlin First Chairs for violin and cello, for instance, though they can sound great in some other contexts. All in all, yes, we are fortunate to have StaffPad enabling us to create mockups of such quality.
