Jacqueline Roque was working at the Madoura Pottery Plant in Vallouris, France when she first met an aging Pablo Picasso. He became enamored with her, sending her a rose each day until she agreed to accompany him on a date. In this episode of Expert Voices, August Uribe, Head of Impressionist & Modern Art, explores the relationship that would define the later years of Pablo Picasso’s life through his masterpiece Femme Au Chien, 1962. This monumental canvas combines references to Picasso’s earlier cubism with more modern sculptural elements in an exciting display of exuberant colors. Hidden from public view for decades, Femme Au Chien will be offered as a highlight of Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale. (14 May | New York)

Picasso is the ultimate master of emotional deconstruction. All the brain needs is his simple clues through color, value and form. A Masterpiece.

I'd say that her likeness wasn't his primary motivation; there are better examples including drawings. Is her bifurcated face merely a reference to cubism? In terms of symbolism, sexuality and psychology, I expect there's more going on than was mentioned here.

"There is no doubt, even to the unitiated, that you're standing before a masterpiece", I have to say I thought it was neat, haha...something "almost abstract" about...I don't always feel that about Picasso...sometimes I wonder why he's so admired, haha, sometimes I feel like his paintings are child-like...I can name Les demoiselles d'Avignon as another example of one I actually like...

At any rate, I heard that Picasso didn't need his subjects to pose very long...they only needed to pose once, and he "remembered" them...would continue drawing paintings of them for a very long time afterward, and not based on earlier paintings...

Hmm...I don't know, haha...I think there are plenty of people said to have done that whose paintings I don't find childlike, etc...

This, is a rather mediocre painting to be honest but I understand that using big words (words have lost their meaning nowadays, haven't they?) is a wonderful way of lubricating the whole Picasso Factory. Of course I love Picasso, but let's keep our best adjectives for his best works. -ION

Ion Portraits youre basing the painting skill on how far it conforms to realism, no offense but something someone who has a very limited view of art would do

Honestly James, I don't know which part of my comment gave you this impression.
