2006... The fact that the soccer world cup in Germany, the release of Cars, release of the Nintendo Wii, Michael Schumacher last F1 season with Ferrari (and originally said to be last at all), Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) dying and the release of those albums was nearly 20 years ago is really feeling weird.

I used to joke in my last year of high school (2016) that we've been in mass coma since 2006 because 2006 was such a sick year with so many great things- but we didn't deserve sonic 06 so everything after the end of December 2006 before 2007 started, we entered a mass coma, making the Wii bigger than it should have been because it was the laat great thing we remembered. It's a big shared coma dream thats being recorded to see what would happen. But ofc some people tried to take the mass lore story that we bullshitted into that mass over like 3 days, too seriously and kinda ruined it unfortunately. It was a silly thing we just kept making more ridiculous. I'm glad I was alive for 2006-2012. Some of the best years of distinct modern music.

When you take into account that the World Cup is every four years, that puts in more into context to how long ago that was more so than other events for me. Most of the young stars are retired or close to retiring. Messi was almost 19, Ronaldo was 21, Modrić, Rooney and Ramos were all 20. Guys like Zidane, van der Sar and Kahn were still active.

Alive or Just Breathing would be my pick for 2002. That record is supreme and it still holds to this day. I remember listening to Just Barely Breathing the first time I spinned the whole thing and just getting the chills as the song picked up. The same thing goes for The Element of One. For the amount of great albums that never even made the list, I feel like this should be done as a series, maybe one or two years per video where they just go through all the metal albums of that year, make an S tier ranking and then choose their pick from those that made it to S tier. Narrowing the year down to four albums just isn't fair, and since it was all Jared's picks we didn't get a sense for what Austin may have brought to the table No Invent Animate - Heavener in 2023 hurt me badly.

This video basically tells me i got in and out of metalcore before it peaked. Most of the 2010s "core" albums I either didn't care for or have never heard before. They did not mention any of the early metalcore: Atreyu, All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Bleeding Through, Haste the Day, Unearth or Poison The Well. And they didn't mention the best albums from As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage.

That album and Senses Fails cd, who's name I cant remember. But it had Lady In a Blue Dress. It has a song with the name of the album but its blanking on me. That album was like my entire 7th grade. I was so depressed, suicidal, alone, but that Senses Fail album quite literally saved my life. I know people say that too much. But this is truly a life saver for me.

I looked up Evanescence on Spotify when you were at 2003, and immediately noticed that still, to this day, 21 years later, 7 out of 10 of their top songs on Spotify are from that record, it holds # 1,2,3,5,7 and 9 on the list, so yeah, that was a freaking AWESOME record! I have SO many memories to that record I can't even count em all! Also, #8 on the list is a remix of Bring me to life from a recently released deluxe edition of that same record, so technically you could say 8 out of 10 songs are from that record..... 😅 Also 🖕for making me realize it's been nearly 21 years since that record was released.... Hard choice, I definitely listen to There is a Hell more NOW, but Creatures has some heaters on it. Diamond Eyes *might* be my personal favorite Deftones record. All 3 are great, but in terms of one I cannot live without, There is a Hell will always have at least 4 songs that I can listen to at any time, and as a whole it is one of the best Metalcore releases.

2000: I didn't listen to ANYTHING that year to save my ears because i had a feeling i was gonna hear the greatest band ever the year after. 2001: Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. 2002: I was still listening to STST from the year before. And that one Bleeding Through song Savoir, Saint, Salvation that Shadows sung on. 2003: Waking the Fallen. 2004: I was still listening to WTF from the year before. 2005: City of Evil. 2006: I was still listening to COE from the year before. 2007: Avenged Sevenfold (Self Titled). And that one Good Charlotte song "The River" because it had Shadows and Gates on it. And also that one Cowboy Troy song Buffalo Stampede cause it had Shadows on it. 2008: Live in the LBC/Diamonds in the Rough. 2009: I listened to DITR and LITLBC from the year before. And that one Steel Panther song Turn out the Lights because it had Shadows on it. 2010: Nightmare. And that one Slash song Nothing to Say but only because GNR was my favourite band when i was like 5 and also because Shadows sang on it. And that one Dirty Heads song Check the Level because Shadows sang on it and Slash played guitar. 2011: I was still listening to Nightmare from the year before. And that one Hell or Highwater song Go Alone because Shadows sang on it. 2012: I was still listening to nightmare from 2 years prior. And that one Fozzy song Sandpaper because Shadows sang on it. And also that one Pitch Black Forecast song Landmine because Shadows sang on it. 2013: Hail to the King. And that one Device song Haze because Shadows sang on it. Shadows and David Draiman sound BADASS together on it. Look it up if you haven't heard it. Seriously, do it now. 2014: Waking the Falllen Ressurected. 2015: I was still listening to WTFR from the year before. 2016: The Stage 2017: The Stage (Deluxe edition). Also, Avengeds Live at the Grammy Museum album. 2018: Black Reign (The collection of songs Avenged did for Call of Duty. I had heard them the year they were individually released but it was the first time there was a complition of them all on a physical disc and it was exciting). And also that one Atreyu song Superhero because Shadows sang on it. 2019: I was still listening to Black Reign from the year before because i was still pretty excited about it. 2020: Diamonds in the Rough (Re release featuring more b sides). And that one These Grey Men song Street Spirit (Radiohead cover) because, yep, you guess it, Shadows. 2021: I was still listening to the DITR re release from the year before. 2022: I listened to that one Smash Mouth song from the hit movie Shrek because Shadows... didn't sing on it. I was getting serious Shadows fatigue by this point. Jokes. I was still listening to the DITR re release from 2 years prior. M. Shadows is KING. 👑 2023: Life Is But A Dream 2024: So far I've only listen to Life Is But A Dream for last year. I had to do this list. The severe lack of A7X was puzzling. Fight me. 😅 Also, Triviums Shogun had better be an option for 2008 . 😁

Sully Erna picked the band name Godsmack in tribute to the late (GOAT) lead singer of AIC (Mad Season)-Layne Staley. 🤘🏻❤️♾️ AIC released the song Godsmack in 1992. The song references addiction-specifically, injecting herøin. "What in God's name have you done? Stick your arm for some real fun. So your sickness weighs a ton. And God's name is smack for some." RIP 🕊️💔 Layne Thomas Staley 08/22/67-04/05/02

Here are some of my picks because why not, also I was born in early 1999 so these all came out when I was growing up but I do still love a lot of these so it was hard as fuck to pick between them so enjoy my list and I also gave some reasoning for some of them 2000: Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory 2001: System of a Down - Toxicity (I literally yelled "SON OF A BITCH" as soon as I saw this one because I fucking loved Toxicity, Iowa and Lateralus and plus I live an hour away from Sum 41 so they're a pretty local band as well (plus Canadian bois), but I'm sticking with Toxicity because it was the album that got me into them because of Chop Suey and Aerials is my favourite System album) 2002: Disturbed - Believe 2003: Linkin Park - Meteora 2004: Green Day - American Idiot (MCR was a close second because that was a great album as well but this was the album that got me into Green Day) 2005: SOAD - Mesmerize/Hypnotize (B.Y.O.B. was the first song I ever heard from them because of Guitar Hero: World Tour and is one of my absolute favourites, but at the same time you can't separate those two records) 2006: Tool - 10,000 Days (I love Lateralus but it was up against so many other great one but 10k Days is one of my favourite Tool albums, I also got to see them back in November with my friends in our band and they were fucking great. Also because I know Jared mentioned the song before but Jambi is on 10,000 Days and is a killer song, and Tool actually brought Alex Lifeson from Rush out to play with them when I saw them which I did not fucking expect and it was awesome. I'm honestly surprised that The Black Parade wasn't included for '06, that one is fucking killer) 2007: Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold (First album I heard from them because of Almost Easy being in Rock Band 2 and is one of their best material, plus it was the last they had with The Rev and Jimmy was just on fucking fire the whole record. Plus A Little Piece of Heaven is such a clusterfuck it's amazing) 2008: Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone (Like I said before, would've picked Iowa but it was up against Tool and System but AHIG was what first introduced me to the band via Psychosocial and that, Sulfer and Snuff are my favourites from the album (plus the Psychosocial Baby meme is just a classic as well) 2009: Thirty Seconds to Mars - This Is War (I don't really know the other bands and I don't listen to that kind of metal, I'm not really that big on them but they're the only album I recognized tbh and it wasn't that bad either) 2010: Deftones - Diamond Eyes 2011: Trivium - In Waves (Like with the '09 picks I don't know recognize either of those albums but that Trivium album was awesome) 2012: Deftones - Koi No Yokan 2013: Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King 2014: Slipknot - .5: The Gray Chapter (Devil In I, The Negative One and Sarcastrophe are fucking killer tracks, also RIP Paul Gray. Super underrated bassist but a great player as well) 2015: BMTH - That's the Spirit (Don't listen to them but Spirit was a solid album) 2016: Asking Alexandria - The Black (Like with Bring Me I don't listen to them but some songs I heard were pretty cool) 2017: Trivium - The Sin and the Sentence 2018: Ghost - Prequelle (I got into more Ghost from a friend of mine from college who's a huge Ghost fan and they're one of my favourite modern bands, that record was awesome and I'm surprised that Meliora wasn't included for 2016) 2019: Periphery IV - Hail Stan (First Periphery album I got into and it's really good, but at the same time I don't listen to much Sabaton but those guys are a WW1 history lesson and it's awesome. Also fun fact about Empath for those who might not know, but 66Samus of RU-vid fame played drums for a few songs on that album and killed it) 2020: Ozzy Osbourne - Ordinary Man (You can't go wrong with the Prince of Darkness himself, that album was so fucking good but Dead Men was awesome as well) 2021: Spiritbox - Eternal Blue (Awesome album and Courtney's voice is just awesome) 2022: Tallah - The Generation of Danger (Great album and Mike Portnoy's son Max was awesome on it) 2023: Metallica - 72 Seasons (This was one of my favourite albums of 2023, it was definitely a great follow-up to Hardwired imo (even if there were some songs that weren't as good as others) and I saw their Texas shows when they were being shown to movie theatres back over the summer and it was awesome, also I played Lux Æterna for my guitar class in college after that song had only been out for like two weeks and had a hell of a lot of fun playing it as well)

I think putting both SOAD albums in 2005 kinda ruined the chance to put like BFMV the Poison or AILD Shadows are security. Those albums are classic
