I bought a Sony Player that produced a great picture with Dolby Vision-but it crashed, froze, and skipped constantly from day one, to the point where I couldn’t even relax and enjoy the movie. You mentioned certain companies that have discs that older Sony players don’t like; I had terrible luck with Blue Underground discs, specifically. So I bought an entry-level Panasonic player without Dolby Vision. And it was much better at playing discs without freezes and crashes, but the image just didn’t look as nice as the Dolby Vision image I’d been getting with the Sony player. I did something similar to you, but not as intense: I upgraded to the cheapest Panasonic that has Dolby Vision. I got it on sale for a good price, but it wasn’t cheap. It’s frustrating to have spent so much money to get a player that won’t hang/crash/freeze, since I’m not a fussy videophile, and especially after 20 years of DVD and blu-ray players that have never skipped or frozen on me. So far the midrange Panasonic seems good enough to keep me happy. The low-range Panasonic is perfect for my projector (which I don’t even simulate HDR on; a player with 4K resolution that doesn’t skip is good enough for the projector). One thing that really annoys me is all of the gaslighting that happens even in the forums, and even in comment threads. I’ve seen so many discussions where people say “I’ve never had a problem with that model. You must need to wash your discs better.” Yes: I was actually rinsing new discs off under the tap for a couple of weeks, because the forums said that would make the Sony player stop freezing. Soon after I saw a lot of “you’re imagining this, making it up, or your filthy hands are fouling the discs” posts, I saw that the New York Times took the Sony line off of their list of recommended players because of freezing and crashing problems. The one non-negotiable feature is that a damn 4K blu-ray player has to actually play the movies! Both of the Panasonic players have been rock solid for me so far.
@RichardDiaz
@RichardDiaz Год назад
First off, I am really happy you finally got a player that works for you. It seems like that is a hard part these days for some of us. It's why I decided to go for this one as well. I needed (hoping) it's almost everything I need it to be without having that same concern. I agree totally on the gaslighting. I get tired of seeing that on forums and posts as well about people saying there is no problem playing some movies. I am happy if someone isn't having a problem but that isn't to say others are not. Both things can be true at the same time. lol I stopped looking on a lot of the posts after awhile.

Thank God I got a Oppo 203 4K player before they stopped making them. I think I've only had two discs freeze for the 4 years I've had it. I do think I need a backup just in case so I've been looking at the Panasonic UB9000, but I'll probably buy it region free to play bluray region B and C discs.

Anyway back in the VHS days I didn't take the precautions of buying lots of VCRs only had a couple to record and watch movies. Later on I couldn't find any extra VCRs. Well I relocated to NY 10 years ago and here I can find VCRs. The Sony DVD I brought with me stopped working so I bought another Sony. Then I figured why not buy multiple players for when the time comes when they stop manufacturing them or they break I'll have the replacement. I have like 25 VCRs, 25 DVDs, 5 Blu-Rays and so far 1 4K. But I plan to buy 5 more Blu-Rays and a couple of 4Ks. Since I don't plan on upgrading my whole collection to Blu-Ray or 4K I'll be fine with a few. You'll better get ready for the time they discontinue the players.
