Remember when the "Joining the Panderverse" special came out and we all speculated whether Disney would learn from this or double down? I think we undeniably have our answer.

Chris Gore has a theory that Sharmeen’s role or this movie is at risk of not moving forward and her very strange interview on CNN was her trying to get out in front of it and make it even harder for KK/Iger to remove her or cancel the project. I don’t know if it’s true, but it explains a lot. Edit: I see you have the same idea Naboo. Regardless, I’m so tired of all this, and I will continue to vote with my wallet.

This just feels like Kathleen Kennedy's way of rubbing salt in the wound of every old Star Wars fan, reminding us that we will never have the Star Wars back that we once loved. Theres just no way that Disney is so blind to the declining sales numbers and viewership, along with the general criticism of fans that this isnt intentional.

OK first of all awesome video art. The colors and the art style look beautiful. Also it’s just crazy how Disney refuses to learn their lesson. They keep hiring terrible people. They have lost money & support for over 5 years in the Star Wars department. I’m not a negative person but if Star Wars stays under Disney, it’s never going to get better. I remember when Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron was announced and the fandom was hyped. The focus was never on who was making that movie, instead Patty only expressed passion for it since her dad was a fighter pilot and she could bring that experience and knowledge and realism to it. She was perfect for that movie. How much you want to bet she wanted to make it about Luke and Wedge? Can't have the white men in the lead roles these days

Hey Thor, darn it, I’m gatekeeping. STAR WARS WAS NOT MADE FOR HER!!! And no it wasn’t made for a race or a gender or ethnicity, it’s made for people who like Star Wars, or even just Sci-Fi. Star Trek is meant to examine humanity growing away from prejudice and deals with that. She would be better suited for that. Star Wars is a fictional universe she is completely ignorant to, culturally ignorant in the way she complains others are towards her culture. It’s hypocritical. This movie is such a long, slow train crash in the making. They have so much time and so many opportunities to not f*** this up, but the same could have been said about the whole sequel trilogy. It just boggles the mind seeing how obviously wrong their decisions frequently are, either they're genuinely not learning from these mistakes, which at this point would require an insane amount of stupidity, or there is some kind of tax dodge they've discovered.

Sharmeen could maybe do an interesting side story in a different style, still in the SW universe. Like a deep dive of Padme's struggles in the senate. Something that plays to her strengths as a documentary film maker. It could be a very interesting project. But to direct flag-ship movies? What does she have that we're not seeing?

I'm still amazed that Jon Favreu has not been asked to direct a Star Wars movie. One would think that his success with The Mandalorian and his experience with big budget Hollywood movies would practically make him the prime candidate for the job. There are so many candidates whom are better suited for the job that their final picks, it's baffling.

Here's the real question though: how much creative control will Sharmeen ultimately have? Because my guess is very little - this is gonna be a movie made by committee. I'm more concerned about who's writing, because make no mistake about it: Bob Iger will have the final say here, but he won't be writing the entire script top-to-bottom.

In my opinion the reason this women was picked to direct this film is probably because everyone else Disney offered it to turned it down. Because those other directors are smart and realize this is a career death trap

Some what related but not; I just started reading "Self Made Man" by Narah Vincent. She wanted to goundercover as a man for 2 years to show the truth about how privileged men are and how easy we have it. She lasted 18 months before it broke her. Literally broke her. She ended up putting herself into a psychic ward and was assisted in an early exit from life. In her words, as a result of her time as an undercover man. It sucks being a man. If you prick me, do I not bleed! Yet, because I am a man, I have to sew my finger back on, suck it up, and get back to work. Figuratively speaking. Why are men bad?!? This last move by Disney may have been the final straw for me. I think I am done. I'm not going to continue standing here and allow someone to keep kicking me in the face. I'll move on now. I matter too.

If they continue down this road with Star Wars, it will die. Considering the messaging this movie will likely have with her in charge, I don't know who they are aiming it at. Most who would be into her messaging aren't likely to be interested in Star Wars and the vast majority of Star Wars fans are not likely to be interested in this kind of messaging in Star Wars. It will wind up appealing to almost no one.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has to be Kathleen Kennedy's decision. I'm surprised that Disney's management still gives Kennedy that level of freedom in running Lucasfilm.

I would not mind Disney betting on an unknown director, I always think of Peter Jackson and how he created the Lord of the rings trilogy while being unknown mostly. So unknowns can be great, I would like to give more unknown actors and directors more chance. Especially if you have someone passionate about Star Wars.

It does seem a strange decision to pick her to direct what is essentially episode 10 and majorly shape what is going to happen in the star wars universe. They could have just given her a standalone movie set in a time period that has already been fleshed out.

I'm really sad for Daisy, it's evident that she only accepted this due to the paycheck with just the look on her face and that probably it's difficult to get interesting roles because of the terrible reputation of Rey.

KK’s approach to choosing directors is the Zoolander approach aka “they’re so hot right now” approach.

The only problem with Wonka is that it is clearly based on the Gene Wilder film and set in the 1940s or so and it's very diverse with no racial tensions. It's an issue because of the time frame and the implication of a genocide that occurred in Charlie's town since the original movie is not diverse in that area.

In response to your other video yesterday: I just want to nuance the debate a little. I think her comments on a female finally shaping the role of star wars is ridiculous, I dont agree with her on that. I do, however, think that she is not refering to the general masses in the interview about making men uncomfortable. She is from Pakistan, a place where gender equality is lacking massively in several aspects, thus she has another perspective and experiences in regards to what women can, and are expected to, do. I believe that her comments on making men uncomfortable are more in reference to the many men who actually are sexist or still have illusions of how a woman can behave and what they can be. I will therefore give her some slack on that comment, as I do not believe she was refering to the general male star wars audience.

Why not have an experienced director like Kathryn Bigelow be put in charge? She knows how to direct action and can be entrusted with a $200 million plus budget.

It's a middle finger to the fans, simple as. They chose a person like Sharmeem for her politics, and if the movie fails (I think even they know it will underperform) it won't be a huge deal to Sharmeem or Disney because this combination makes no sense.
