Stokes is more impactful and more genius, winning ashes tests single handedly is a height that Kallis never rose to. He is the averages king but those of us who watched never wanted to see him play and you simply have to acknowledge when a player has a reputation for playing for his average
@musandlala7991
@musandlala7991 2 года назад
@@HkFinn83 Granted if you just look at him from a point of view that his average where great then your point is very impactful. Having grown up in South Africa and noticing how difficult it is to bat(Maybe I am just a mug lol) around these parts. Add the fact most foreign supporters forget or perhaps don't know about the 1st 10 years Kallis Started playing for the proteas. Where he bated 3 with a limited Gray Kirsten and a young Herschel Gibbs(who was notorious for throwing away his wicket) opening. If he got out cheaply, behind him was basically all rounders or a flavour of the month number 4. Poor guy only scored a 200 when he had Amla before him and AB after him, where he knew if he got out it wouldn't be a 120 all out situation. And someone who followed cricket would say "Brain Lara wasn't exactly batting with genius's around his 400 odd knock". Which I would answer, when that great cricketer start he was batting in a brilliant team.

It's blasphemous that they were even trying to make the Stokes/Kallis discussion even debatable. I understand they're English but come on, that is ridiculous. This is just utter bias and prisoner of the moment stuff. Nasser had the nerve to say Stokes will finish his career with stats close to Kallis??? Maybe bowling yes, but Kallis's batting is in the conversation of the greatest batters in the history of the game - he wasn't just "great for an allrounder".

@@adambradbury906 Flintoff, Klusener maybe. I said maybe because this raises a discussion between these 3. Two things common between them - They were match winners and they were inconsistent. They might step up to the occasion every 10th Match, but they are mediocre between those performances. That's why batting and bowling avgs respected, they are the indicators of consistency. Hence Kallis was the greatest all-rounder in the last 30yrs. He was always the main batsman of the team and 3rd or 4th best bowler. Also keep in mind SA has Donald, Pollock, Ntini, Steyn, Philander, Morkel, so Kallis picked wickets even as a supporting act.

warne and murali are #1 and 2 spinners of all time, but warne is the greatest bowler of all time. warne: 708 test wickets, murali 800. wickets vs zimbabwe and bangladesh (the whipping boys of test cricket): warne: 17, murali: 176. that should put that argument to bed.

Kallis and Sobers are a particular godly like. Stokes is more like the Kapil/Imran/Hadlee/Botham category. Their batting stats are a lil in 30's compared to Kallis and Sobers 50's but their impact is probably so great. The kind of summer Stokes has had. World Cup final. Headingley test. The SA match. He's setting himself in a Botham vs Stokes debate very nicely.

Gilchrist def the keeper batsman in ODIs but preposterous not to have Sanga (> 57 Avg of Sobers & 12400 test runs) as keeper batsman in tests. 2. Warne vs Murli is tricky and debatable. Both are the best and most prolific spinners of all time. 3. G.Smith and Hayden are great players and openers but G.Smith avg < 50 and Hayden avg just at 50. Both also have < 10000 test runs. My Test XI top 7 all have avg > 52 and > 10000 runs (except S.Smith but his avg > 62!). 4. Steyn was superb but his avg of ~23 is > than Ambrose avg of < 20! It's a travesty that Dhoni isn't even mentioned in WK conversation. I understand how ABD is better batsman in all forms of the game, but Gilchrist and Dhoni's stats are neck to neck in all forms of game. Not to mention the captaincy skills dhoni brings to the table along with arguably the best wicket keeping skills of the 3 players. Another anomaly in the list - Graeme Smith doesn't belong in this conversation, no disrespect.

I just dont understand the doubt on Sachin !!! Its obvious he comes in any team bec of 2 reasons -> 1. there has been no sportsman in any sports who sustained entire pressure of d expectations of billions for such a longer period and then fulfill it with his unmatchable stats !!!! 2. Kohli has other great players around him to soak the pressure but there was a time when Indian team was totally a one man show during Sachins time and each time he went to bat , he had this huge pressure and he performed for a very long time On wasim Akram , Nasir hit the nail..u cant have a team without him..Most part of his career he had a short run up but he was a magician with the ball..he cud ball anyhing on his will...He cud bowl fast yorkers at will even in his late 30s..u cudnt hit him.. On Glenn macgrath , Rob hit the nail..he was a mystery and a legend..a bowler who was military medium bowling at 130-135kmph speeds and still gave unforgettable performances across the globe..be it swing friendly foreign pitches or dusty dry sub continent pitches...one can never understand why with that speed , and no unique weapons that Wasim had , he was unplayable and an absolute wizard..... On Brian Lara, again we cant leave him from any side since was a maverick..a naturally gifted player who didnt look he was serious abt his game , or dedicated enuff but an absolute nightmare for the opposition if he was on song..he cud single handedly win matches from lethal attacks on lethal pitches with style , disdain and flamboyance...one small ex - Danish Kaneria sledging Lara , and getting hit for 2 sixes in next 2 balls...u wont see a sachin or a bradman doing this..Lara had Jigara (guts)....

Assume its a best TEST XI...coz white ball cricket doesnt matter much. Hayden Cook(vc) Ponting (c) Tendulkar Lara Kallis Gilchrist Warne Akram Ambrose McGrath Behind the stumps is Gilchrist, then Warne at 1st, Hayden, Cook then maybe Kallis at gully. Ponting at either midwicket or cover....or anywhere. If it was the last 40yrs i'd pick Marshall over Ambrose. Definitely Hayden, but i'd be just as happy picking Sehwag over Cook to get a right hand opening partner to go with Hayden. Not the last 30yrs, but i'd most like Hayden batting with Gavaskar due to huge difference in height and the LH/RH. No new ball bowlers could get a line and length right to that opening pair. 13289 Test runs, 45 Test centuries, 292 Test Wickets, 200 catches, played against some of the best Test bowlers of all time. Batting average greater than Sachin's, bowling average as good as one time Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan and almost as many catches as Rahul Dravid the Test fielder. This in itself elevates Jacques Kallis to the position of the greatest cricketer to ever have played the game. When you also consider his ODI record (11579 runs, 44 batting average, 272 wickets, 130 catches), the only question which remains is how a human being achieved all this. If and not when (because it won't happen) Ben Stokes gets even remotely close to these figures, then compare him to Kallis, but not now. No way.
