Pedigree means a lot of different things. One of the most important is that these books are from a original owner collection. In most cases these books are unread or read once and very fresh. Some pedigrees carry a significant amount of prestige. The Edgar Church (Mile High) books are known for being incredibly fresh with glossy covers and white pages. Collectors will pay considerably more for a Church book due to its pedigree qualities, not necessarily the pedigree itself. In contrast, Savannah and Mohawk Valley books are known to NOT have great page quality and it reflects in their prices achieved. Lastly, Gaines File Copies (GFC) are well respected due to them being pulled from the printer by the publisher and stored undisturbed for decades. They also have a certificate that accompanies most of the books signed by Bill Gaines himself and is prized by collector’s. In summary pedigrees are not just for bragging, in most case they are the best copies of individual books 👍
You guys are awsome just went through a 30 year wormhole and landed back into the comic universe your alls passion has sparked myself to once again use my imagination again as I one did thanks guys
Hi Dave and Rachael. That copy of Crypt of Shadows appears to be a reprint of Mystic #30 from 1954. The artwork is changed slightly but it’s definitely the same. The only reason I know, is that it’s the only pre code horror I own. Chris.
Always love your shows. This was no exception. Can't wait for that horror sale. I'm saving my pennies until then because I know you'll be bringing the heat.
Love your shows. Watching this one sitting in the train station in Toronto just having visited my own daughter for Star Trek comic related purposes. It was really wonderful seeing you just hand over that Spider-Ham comic to your own daughter, just because she loved it. I can totally relate...much respect, man.🖖
I found your channel while researching comic book pressing. (Great information by the way.) Then watched this for the pedigree unboxing, but got more than I expected. You guys are great together. As a 50 something dad with two girls of my own, I know how special a relationship between a father and daughter can be. Mine are both daddy's girls! They are grown now but still enjoy listening to their Ol' man talk about comics! Love your channel. Subscribed!
Looking forward to the Bronze Age horror sale in October. Frankenstein Monster was always my favorite of the big three (Dracula, Werewolf by Night). Unfortunately, it didn't have that long of a run as the other two but that adds to its charm in my opinion.
Awesome books as usual. That was such a sweet moment giving her that book. Your live sales are legit. I’ve been saving money lately so I haven’t bought from them lately but I’ll definitely hit up that oct horror one!
Nice to give your daughter that book. Also glad you said what you did about CBCS. They are a good company with a good product that is under appreciated.
I bought a 3 or 4 issue run of Kirby’s Black Panther and I’ve read a literal ton of Kirby’s stuff but never any BP and what a great surprise those issues were great reading and Kirby still going strong!
You're probably my age and I love the exact same stuff you do. It doesn't have to be valuable, at all, but just very, very cool. I find myself grabbing up as many Earl Norem covers as I come across and, recently, I'm finding some graded hippie-era independent comics that have been very satisfying to receive. Most of my personal stuff, though, is often low-value early Bronze books with great covers. Throw any of those in a new mylar and, pop, there's a beauty to behold. What are your felings about the Marvel Magazine Group stuff? I think that the lot of the vintage magazines are some of the best things to come out of the Bronze era and I'm rather stymied that it generally remains affordable--especially in very high grade and that collectors don't go after them with the zeal saved for comics. Bigger covers, bigger art, higher-quality production, more robustly detailed covers and, oh, the painting. I love all of it. Anyway, a great bunch of books to see you both roll through. Stay well and take very good care.
Hi Dave, Rachel ,bi would've participated in your sale on Aug 25 but I was evacuated due to forest fires up here in the interior of BC, but I'll definitely watch on monday, we're headed home today, Sunday. Thank you for everything you do for the hobby
Great books. You leave me impressed with the choices. I picked up loads as well. I also grabbed some out of the comic connect auction. Those Daredevils especially.
Great show, as always. I love the Winnipeg pedigree. I have FF 161 from that pedigree--although, sadly, it's only a 9.0. By the way, I love that Fantastic Four 86 on the rack behind you... and I haven't received my August bonus yet. Just saying...
Just found your channel, kinda new to the comic book collecting scene so always willing to learn more about garded books...thanks for sharing and stay safe! ...oh and have subbed you as well
Just got back from fan expo and went to local comic store and got Avengers #89 Captain Marvel cover 9.2 and issue #124 nice covers and Annual #3 with captain America and Submariner #44 for $40.00.
They are collections of comics usually vintage golden age, silver and Bronze Age books that are high grade. Collected by a single owner and recognized by CGC.
