Rory...Power is Power, think of baseball, football, boxing and even ping pong and chess. Attacking is always preferable but the third shot drop is a beautiful finesse and counter shot with the purpose of gaining advantage. As you said both the drop and the drive are essential for pickleball. I really enjoy your videos!

At 3:24, you discuss the new rules regarding the spin serve. As a point of clarification, it is still legal to put spin on the ball when you serve it. You just can't impart spin on the ball prior to the paddle striking the ball to send it on its way. This is from page iii of the 2023 rules: "Spin Serve (4.A.5) Manipulating the ball to add spin during the release of the ball is not allowed. Some natural rotation of the ball when it is released is allowable but the server must not impart manipulation or spin prior to striking the ball to serve. This applies to the volley serve and the drop serve." To me, it looks like Porter is imparting spin on the ball with his toss prior to striking the ball with his paddle, which is now illegal in 2023. It also looks like he is imparting spin on the ball when his paddle strikes the ball, which is still completely legal. I love your instructive videos!

I'd really like to see you 'pick apart' a singles match, particularly beginners no better than 3.0 level. They make up a huge part of the community and your analysis could really be helpful to a lot of players.

Hey Rory, I believe the spin serves you're talking about that is band is the "chainsaw paddle spin serve" and the "finger snap spin serve". These two serves are totally illegal and I'm glad that it is!!! The rest of spin serves are legal as long as you serve making contact with the ball below the waste line. Please correct me if I'm wrong, thanks.

Bangers win, and they beat me often. Often with less skill, just by constantly hitting really hard. Like Rory has said, dropping and dinking games are so much more fun and require more skill. I will continue to play this way even if I win less.

So am I right in assuming that any serve that kicks left or right will be an illegal serve? I agree those spin serves are so dangerous. I’m out of action now after trying to return one of those. I see the doc in a couple days to see what damage I incurred.

People are really nit picky about players ratings. These are great players. Was the PLAY 5.0? Some of it was some of it wasn’t but I tend to give people benefit of the doubt.

We all miss shots, so I look for how quality and difficult a shot is when looking at a players grade number. Jennifer had some good returns, but I'm not sure the others are 5.0. also, I look for people making changes as the game goes on? I saw no thinking or adjusting in this game. A 5.0 is going to do both. quick for young people nothing to write home about.

The "better" team lost this one. That's pickleball; it happens sometimes. At about 11:08 Porter's weird serve sent Jennifer all the way against the padded wall. From that point forward, it looked as if her left leg was somewhat injured, and she was favoring it. I think she whacked her hip on the padded wall and it did "something". Rory, you do a good job with your pick-aparts. Keep them coming!

Rory, if you will watch closely, she is screaming when she misses!

Jennifer is a gifted player with great potential. But the one issue keeping her from greatness is she always hits the ball right to her opponent. She need to learn to hit to where her opponent is not. What separates the pros is that they can hit to anywhere on the court. Example Anna-Leigh Waters.

This has nothing to do with your video, but the one kid with no third shot drop looks kinda like Bieber’s baby brother. I’d love to know why he (and others) wear a baseball hat backwards. The purpose of a hat like that is to block the light from your eyes. If you are going to wear it backwards, just don’t wear it at all. It serves no purpose backwards. I know you have nothing to do with how he wears his hat, and really enjoy your format. I look forward to your next video !
