Piecing together an inshore summer striper pattern 

By July, most of the big stripers in Long Island Sound are closer to mid-sound more of the time, than to the shoreline and the assorted river mouths. somewhere close to 6 or 7 weeks later, the inshore bite picks up a good deal, as different baitfish species move in and out of the shoreline areas. It's a rare day though, that you can't find some to catch, even in the middle of July or August.
We like to concentrate on current and on the structures that alter its flow, and we'll keep moving until something shows itself. But then we'll hunker down and figure out how to get them today, presentation-wise.
