Magnificent

With Ori Kam on viola, awesome!

I never understood why Barenboim took it so slowly. The score is really clear about it - the thing needs to be as fast as possible at the end.

While Derive 1 was a short piece for a small ensemble, Derive II is much longer and for a larger ensemble (which remains nevertheless a chamber orchestra). Barenboïm conducts the work in a very strict but sensitive work. This is very encouraging since (1) it shows another face of that wonderful musician who is Barenboïm; and (2) it shows that after Boule' death, his work goes on living.

I prefer this version conducted by Barenboim instead of the version conducted by Boulez. Maybe it is more expressive.
