People tend to overate things when they hear that something is the “best”. Alessio has a higher palate because he’s European so tourist traps wouldn’t impress. Jessi has followed him. Also, some flavors don’t translate well. Romanians (my heritage) make rose hip jam. I grew up eating it so I’m used to it. Not everyone is. Lots of it is also personal preference. I would hate anything with rosemary in it because I hate rosemary but love passion fruit. C’est la vie! 💜💗
You are so right, the tourist traps work for people who come from far away. I would bet that if the tourists didn't buy so much there, these bad shops wouldn't exist anymore.
@@Grumpy67 could be but the Pierre Herme macarons I have been eating and loving way before it was a tourist thing.. I like exotic flavours and I like a desert that is not very sweet.. some people like sweet more.. and I like their creamy fillings.. I do not like the jam filled ones.. and most of pierre herme are creamy. I live a block from both Pierre Herme and Laduree and a few others..
I also liked rose hip jam because of my Romanian heritage but I can understand why people who aren't used to this kind of flavor wouldn't like it. I miss eating this jam.
While I do love the content and information of your videos, my favorite part is watching two lovely people sharing experiences, laughing and enjoying each other's company. It gives me hope that love exists. ❤
As a French woman I would advise you : avoid the classic big companies for pastries and macarons. Trust local, random bakers. But keep in mind that if there is the word "boulangerie" in the window, they really make and bake their bread.
@@ThePasinis of course they have it is good for some. Pierre Hermé is a kind of pastry pope, but it is a question of taste. I wish you will come back to Paris and try new things and restaurant. Wish you the best.
ooooh WE LOVE PARIS the video before this we eat so many good dishes! and for us the last place of macarons was AMAZING! we hade a very good time to Paris ciao da Alessio
@@ThePasinis I agree with Chantal. I love how open-minded and interested you are in trying new things and eating good food. But still, you walked into a lot of tourist traps. Keep in mind that the average Parisien will not rate a bakery on Google, he just goes to the bakery and buys his bread and that's it. So relying on Google ratings is not always the best way. Ask locals. You have a huge public and asking your public to give some tips before traveling to a certain city might give you good opportunities. Alessio recognizes good food being grown up among good food, but he is a tourist in Paris and almost every other European city too, so he has to rely on what others tell him. Try local and avoid the big chains! And if you need tips for (or a guide in) the Netherlands, just let me know! ;-)
If You didn’t like the Mogador (passion fruit chocolate) from Pierre Hermé, I can’t trust your taste sorry guys because this one is really good, for me I think you don’t like macarons that’s all 😅
The rose macaron you had is named after Isfahan, the third-largest city in Iran. Rose has been a prominent thing in Iran since ancient times, being used from celebrations to mourning, because it makes people relaxed. Rose water (which 90% of the world's production is made in Iran) is used for perfume and to not only treat everything from heartaches to headaches, but also used in Iranian cuisine like Faloodeh (serbet-like dessert with vermicelli), masghati (jelly-like confection made with starch), shirin polo (pilaf with saffron, nuts, and dried fruits; typically for weddings), baghlava (Persian baklava), as well as tea! Rose water is even used (as a mix with Zamzam water; water from a religious well) to wash the holy Kaaba in Mecca!
As a French, i disagree if you dont like the mogador and the ispahan then your tastebud are differrent. these 2 are the best sellers.😅😅 which means they are locals favorites😊
What aren't you drinking a little water to remove the taste of the previous. I think that with having a previous flavor on your palate it will change the flavor of the next. What do you think🤷♀️
If the macaron texture is dry and hard it means it's stale. I am a baker myself and a fresh macaron should be crispy from the outside and chewy and soft from the inside.
I love Pierre Herme Everything they do…I am wondering if it was a the flavours you did not like.. they have some exotic ones.. their macaron tend to be less sweet than others… A blind test I have done with a friend is I have put Pierre herme mixed with another brand and the pierre Herme macaron stood out.. and no one knew which ones they were but me. A breakfast item I would recommend are the rose and almond croissants at Pierre Herme but I don’t think you like the rose flavours?
Pierre Hermes created the isapahan for La duree. The isapahan flavor combos are the best! I’ve even had the caviar macaron. Us foodies think food is art. Those have taste know better. Cheers!
I was never a fan of macarons and was always told I just hadn't had a "good" one, but I really think it's just that I don't really enjoy the concept of it. I'd be happier with a flaky pastry, a donut, a cookie, or a cake-- just about any other kind of dessert. Thanks for the entertainment-- I really think I would have the same reaction as both of you!
I think you should stay with basic American flavors like chocolate and vanilla. Ispahan and passion fruit are my favorite from PH. I think you not growing up with fruit like lychee and passion fruit may lead to you feeling shocked about these flavors (ispahan is rose lychee and raspberry).
I'm surprised you guys tried so many macaron flavors that you didn't like! Why not choose more basic flavors instead? Personally, I love tea and floral-based desserts, so I choose more of those flavors at French bakeries. The Ispahan is one of the most popular flavor and dessert at both Pierre Hermé and Ladurée. Also, passion fruit is a very popular flavor for macaron and desserts too! Yes, I wholeheartedly agree that Ladurée's Marie Antoinette Tea macaron was really awful! Pierre Hermé's macarons are very sweet too. Not my favorite. But I do like Ladurée. The macarons I've had were at their US branch stores. There are many good macarons, viennoiseries, and pâtisseries at Ladurée too. My favorite is their Rose Raspberry Saint-Honoré. Delicious!
I like weird floral flavours, but the idea of eating 20 macarons gives me a gut ache! Ahahah. Thanks for taking one for the team in the name of science. ;) I love that the small business was the best. It goes to show how important shops like this are for preserving great classic recipes and techniques.
Next time you two should keep your opinions to yourselves until after you both try it, or let Alessio rate the food first. It seems he is always following your lead.
😂 I love watching you both. I love your honest reactions. You make me laugh. Your videos help my panic anxiety stay at bay. Thank you for that. ❤ you both and thank you again, for sharing your lives with us. May God rain many blessings on you.
I agree that Pierre Herme is overrated but I also think they were too harsh, like for example about Ispahan with raspberries, lichi and rose... I had it and really loved it. I love desserts with fruits, but I see they don't really, so why would they be rating a fruit dessert when they probably won't like it (like she said about passionfruit)? Doesn't make sense. I guess it depends on person's taste. I would say Pierre Herme is crazy expensive like most big names in Paris, but the truth is you are likely to find equally delicious desserts in almost all pastry shops around town, and much cheaper
I love the ispahan one from Pierre. It just seems like they are only used to very simple flavors like vanilla or coffee etc and not the more sophisticated flavors
Can I just say that when I was in Europe, we tried Macarons in France, and I did not like them. Perhaps it was a place we went but surprisingly the best Macarons we had were in Amsterdam!
Don't know why that passionfruit/chocolate macaron is called Mogador, as Mogador is an island off the coast of Morocco and both chocolate and passionfruit...are from the Americas. Did Pierre not take a geography lesson? 😂The thing about Madagascar vanilla is that Madagascar is so well-known for its vanilla...and yet, vanilla too is originally from the Americas! Madagascar being the leading producer of vanilla is the result of the legacy of (fittingly) French colonialism. On nearby Réunion in 1841, 12-year-old Edmond Albius (who was enslaved), discovered how to pollinate vanilla orchids by hand, and this method helped the island grow what we call Bourbon vanilla. But because Madagascar is way bigger and more labor, the French took advantage of it and built many vanilla plantations across the island that used Edmond's method.
Maybe it has nothing to do with that city? A street and a theater in Paris have this name and there was a19th century entertainer called Céleste Mogador.
I always thought macaron were supposed to be a little chewy but crispy on the outside. A totally dry, crispy one is probably old because they can’t make all the flavours everyday. I had my first macaron in NYC from Lily O’Brien’s. It was fantastic.
I like gummy macarons 😅 it all depends on a person preference..and i think they are an acquired taste like everything in french cuisine.. but we lovee the french and very nice video guys!
classic macarons are actually gummy/chewy in texture. that's what any macaron baker strives for though! I can understand that maybe the flavours were not quite the best for them and their palate, but to say the classic macaron texture is bad because it is gummy makes no sense 🤣 that's how it should be in the first place
I like laureé macarons (marie Antoinette/roses are the best flavors for me). And I think macarons suppose to be kinda chewy. The filling is the one thing… its acquire taste.
Oh, I could tell by Alessio's facial expressions EXACTLY how he felt about each one. I honestly would trust his culinary opinions on alot of things. Jessi and I, we are Americans who married Italian / Sicilian men, and our tastes are a bit different. The two of us totally learned, and learned FAST, what REAL Italian food tastes like, and that these American chain "Italian Food" places are a bit of a mockery - like McDonald's vs. Applebee's, Taco Bell vs. a 5 star Michelin place. My mother in law and father in law could out-cook any top ranked chef on this planet when it comes to Italian food. I am sure Alessio's mom ranks right up there with my in laws. Those ladies know how to cook. Alessio, Jessi, thank you for your opinions, if I ever go to France, I will know what to avoid.
dear guys, please stick to whatever pastry you like in the US, you seem to be surpassed by the macaron (i don’t believe you were surprised that you actually tasted rose in a ROSE macaron!?, what is it supposed to taste, mcflurry?) I mean yes there is a chance pierre hermé s macaron might notl be all tip top, and i ve tasted them, they are pretty damn good
One of the most frequent critiques of Rose flavored bakes, is that the baker used too much rose flavoring, and it is overpowering. I have seen it again and again.
@@cathycole9577 OK, but to mention that these flavors are all natural and not chemical based, big difference, all the complexity is to reach the correct flavors and incorporate them in a macaron
Le lautrec is great! got some macarons at the one in Strasbourg a few months ago and man those are good macarons! if you're ever in Switzerland, Confiserie Sprüngli makes amazing macarons as well, but they are called Luxemburgerli :)
I find the best places I find are the mom and pop owned places! not the big owned companies! They tend to put more LOVE into their food! I am glad you found a hidden gem!
Hi, I admire your sense of adventure, but if you are going to do a taste test, buy at least 3 of the same flavors and 3 specialty flavors from each shop. Regarding floral flavors, it is more for certain Europeans and Middle Eastern palates, but certainly not Americans. If you have a chance to go to a shop specializing in jams, you would be surprised at the wide selections they have, comparing to what we have back home. Love your videos.
I love the fruit and floral combinations in a macron, especially raspberry and rose! But I know it’s more common for Americans to dislike the floral flavors 🙂 I think my favorite flavor I’ve tried in a macron was Earl Grey tea.
Hello. We are the Korean reality program ‘Europe Outside the Tent: South France’. We're working on a French episode right now, and it would be great if you could let us use this footage for our show! We look forward to your response! thank you!
You two crack me up. I love watching the two of you. I think you should have gotten a grand prize winner running and took it back to the winner. I’m sure they’d love to know they beat out all the others. Have fun
Funny how the most popular used quaint packaging but probably mass produced now and artificial flavors yet you stumble upon a lesser known better place probably still handmade with real ingredients. Shows big chains cut corners. That was fun watching you both
Man. The comments are so mean - just because someone doesn’t like something you like, doesn’t mean YOU have the more superior palette. People have taste preferences. They can only give their personal opinion. 🙄
If I was a restaurant owner I’d lock the doors if I saw y’all approaching 😂 the amount of disaffection you guys have is overwhelming. I’ve learned if it’s popular or pricey you guys hate it and only like the random mom and pop shops, which is great but dang it’s okay to like touristy places too they got there for a reason.
Yeah, I think the same ! I don't understand; if Pierre Hermé was that bad and unrefined... How Japanese, a very refined society and palate opened stores and did other products like drinks, exclusive to Japan ? The only thing to reproach is sometimes the taste of milk is very pronounced like in Ispahan, sometimes sugar too. But the flavor mixing is very high quality !
Hello I belong to Pakistan. I am a poor woman. My mother and I are both alone. My father has passed away. My mother is sick. I work hard and take care of my mother. We are a servant of Allah, mother. Help the daughter financially. May Allah bless both of you.
Pierre Hermé is a legend of pastries. But now the prices are going out of nowhere. It became a complete luxury meal. Don’t buy to Ladurée. Those macarons are frozen and are done in Switzerland.
This was great! I love the way you are objective in your opinions and laugh even though the macarons were not good. And well done for trying the flavours that weren't to your taste but you tried them anyway! ❤
After the first 2 boxes I started thinking maybe you just don't like macarons. So glad the third box restored your faith. I don't actually think I've ever had a macaron, we have a kid with nut allergies. But I've always been curious.
oh come on this is ridiculous you would rather eat fast food from the states ? but taste is relative went to the states and for the most part was really disappointed
I’ve been to paris many times and I’m sad to see your not liking any of the macaroons they are delicious I have no complaints sorry to see you both do !!
As a parisian, Pierre Hermé and Ladurée are for tourists... But Ispahan macaron is a classic, depends on where you take it of.. I appreciate your review though..
Like tasting a dozen of pizzas in a row on the hotel's bed. No sense. Best way to hate 'pizze', 'macarons' or even a NYC steak! It's non-italian food bashing. To Alessio I would suggest pastries from central Europe or Spain since Spaniards ruled the trades and Italy itself untill the 19th century, from Sicily to allmost Torino and from napolitan pastries to venetian rizzo.
I don't understand; if Pierre Hermé was that bad and unrefined... How Japanese, a very refined society and refined palate opened stores and did other products like drinks, exclusive to Japan ? Such a fun video to watch. My husband and I enjoy macaroons. We find them at trader Joe's. They're delicious. My daughter gets them at a pastry bakery. They melt in your mouth. Delicious. Yum 🤤😋 thanks so much for sharing.
