Yup - 100% my thoughts. Might have actually been an above average beer league shift since he at least made it all the way back to the defense zone for the breakout.
First, PLD wanted to keep the trade request private. This would help the Jackets get a better deal than if the league knows he wants out. Second, he agreed to take a discount deal for 2 years to make trading him even easier. Instead, Columbus decided to make it public, in hopes that it would increase attention, and raise PLD's clout. It had the opposite effect, and it blindsided PLD. So, he said *FUCK YOU* to Jarmo, and lowered his value by dogging it on the ice. Literally every GM would love to have this guy on his team. This is obviously another case of Torts chasing talent out of Columbus. Just ask Panarin, Duchene, and Bob...
@@Bomber_Boi Panarin and Duchene were trade deadline rentals that signed elsewhere as UFAs. Bob was a UFA as well, just wanted nicer weather, and chose to leave. They would've had a great thing going if they all stayed. But as is history for CBJ, even before Torts time there, nobody want to play there. It's a boring place to be and has nothing going for it for these guys.
@@steve8803 Actually Panarin was an off season trade with Chicago and was there for 2 years. Was offered huge money after an extremely successful 2 seasons, but wanted to play in a large market (nice way of saying Torts is a fuck) and left during the off season. Duchene was the only "rental" and knows Torts is a fuck, so he admitted right away that he'll be going to play in Nashville where he just bought a house. Bobrovski was offered huge money and term comparable to Florida deal and Bob gave Torts a huge 🖕. He said he wanted to play in a warmer climate, but hockey players are far too polite to embarrass others publicly. So they use excuses like those to keep their great image. Great players will continue to leave Columbus while Torts the tyrannical reigns
That’s brutal. Imagine being a hardworking guy on the bench seeing the star player out on the ice like that, hard to imagine much of anyone in the locker room like this guy
After his comments the other day, I wish teams would just bury this guy in the minors and force him to play overseas. Obviously that would never happen, but the NHL doesn’t owe him anything.
He's smart, he knew that the covid season didn't mean shit. Plus his contract is guaranteed, he'd have to be a fool to work hard in a non prove it year.
@@KrolKaz if dogging it is so smart, then i guess there aren't thousands of guys willing to take his place and work hard for millions of dollars. Try this attitude in any other job, and your butt is on the street that day.
Management: "Well P-L, it wasn't easy but we've found a team extremely interested to have a skater like you in their lineup." Dubois: "Wow.. really? What team?" Management: "Disney on Ice. We're trading you for Peter Pan."
@@altqq1755 OK, well HE signed with them... These divas need a reality check. $10 million for 2 years and he couldn't just do his job, playing hockey, for essentially half the year. No sympathy. In the long run he screwed himself because no team wants to see that shit.
It’s crazy that people are trying to defend this shift. “He was getting open.” No, no he wasn’t. He wasn’t making an effort to get open and present himself as ready to receive a pass. Simply skating up ice and looking back towards the puck carrier isn’t getting open. His forechecking was nonexistent, he literally gave up on the play as soon as the lightning player took the puck from him, and then proceeded to get off the ice. And earlier on the shift when the puck was dumped into the jackets zone, he nearly collided with his own defensemen. A center shouldn’t be in the corner below the goal line during a breakout. This shift was beyond awful by Dubois. Zero effort, and then got off. Deserved to be benched.
I'm just going to point out that some centers will go to the corner to help get the puck out of the zone at any cost. Not defending him just saying that centers depending on play style will go to the corner to help
@@badbonezthlegnd2049 yea I was thinking this exactly, how low he went into his own zone was fine, but the fact he almost collided into his own defender and then didn't even try to get ready for a pass (not to mention everything esle he did on this pathetic shift haha)
@@CatMelon12 I know if I was on the ice my first thought is I wanna clear the zone so I'd run cut off so they cant get the puck by giving my defenders time to get there. But clearly could see he was done in Columbus
Pretty embarrassing. I understand not being in a situation you don't want to be in but you have a responsibility to other 19 guys out there. This is just selfish. Future teammates are sure to be thrilled.
Yeah okay? He wanted the trade request to be private, and tort made it public, so he decided to throw to tank his value, as a blue jackets fan, i think its deserved.
He has the contract, all he’s doing is making Columbus look like idiots as his trade stock goes down and Columbus end up trading him for a bag of pucks and he goes and fills a 1st line centre role for a different team
@@brockollirob3812 I hope they dont sell him anywhere or sell him to anaheim, that dumb fuck cant play hockey to save his life and its fact, he is getting millions of dollars to play and delivers absolutely nothing. Actually just send him to AHL and let him play there till the end of his contract. You can still send 1way players to AHL, the salary just dont change but if he only hurts the team in NHL, its the right option.
@@The_Bad_Guy. Unless Torts is gone when Laines contract is up.. there is no way in this world that he'll sign with Columbus They got a long term Rental thats it
I don't see a whole lot wrong here until the puck is lost at Dubois feet and he floats lethargically back to the bench. But I have seen this out of other players. It is basically playing shorthanded for 5 even 10 seconds.
I'm with you. There isn't any sport I can think of except maybe in track and field where a player is going to go full-blast every time, all the time. There is a lot of read and react. Without the puck being visible in these clips, it is hard to tell what the situation is exactly.
He will have the same issues playing in Winnipeg. Have to grow up man, that is so disrespectful to your teammates no matter how much you dislike the coach or whatever his problem is
That's me! Playing first shift in a beerleaguegame after a night with eight beers and hoping not to get hurt by an unfortunate loss of balance leading to a collission with my own linemate 😂
I believe personally. This guy is not trying because he’s selfish and wants to play for his favourite team the Montreal Canadiens. He wants out so that he can go play for the team he’s always been wanting to play for.
I also want to say that the reason PLD won’t speak about why he wants to leave is simply because there is no reason. He just wants to play for his fav team. Let’s say he gets traded to the jets or any other team. I believe he will end up in Montreal at the end of his contract anyway.
I think you're absolutely right he is selfish. Where the entitlement comes from I have no idea but he better learn quickly that it's not how shit flys in the NHL
Larry Jeffrey just passed away. He was the complete opposite of of this demonstration. He had all sorts of physical set backs, less gifts of natural ability, management reluctant to give him a chance due to injuries he incurred, and all he did in return was give complete effort every shift and earn having his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
It's not as bad as it looks. Players get 20+ shifts per game. Once in a while, you will get a shift where you just don't even touch the puck. He's in good position defensively, was open for a pass when his winger had the puck and the one time he was in a battle, it was against two guys, he got tied up quickly by one while the second moved the puck out. There is no excuse for the slow change at the end though.
I’m guessing you haven’t played any competitive hockey before he was coasting and gliding around the whole shift that’s not acceptable for any shift as a pro getting paid millions of dollars
For all the people out there blaming Torts for this man's lack of anything on the ice, you clearly have never played a sport in your life. Players play for the man and woman next to them. When you are upset with the coach, you don't quit on your teammates, because on the field of play, you are all each other has. This guy is clearly a selfish individual and Columbus will be better without him.
He was a pissy little baby in Columbus, he continued to be a pissy little baby in Winnipeg, and now he gets to be a pissy little baby in LA. All the talent in the world and he just doesn't give two fucks
It's funny how everyone called this "THE zero effort shift," like it was the only time he played like that. He plays every shift like that in LA. And the effort isn't even the main problem, it's zero focus, zero hockey IQ, zero ability to understand that when you lose the puck that's not the end of the play. They keep telling him and he legit doesn't get it. You think, how can somebody not understand that you want them to approach every shift as one continuous engagement? Somehow, he believes that's what he's doing. Dude probably needs hypnotherapy.
The best part is that Tyler Johnson pushed him off a puck. Jarmo pulled some straight Jedi mind tricks to get Roslovic and Laine for him after that shift.
PLD reminds me of the player from lightning(cba to search the name), that yzerman benched and took off the rosters and now hes been traded around few times. As for PLD dont see him doing good with less icetime in jets.. and ppl blaming torts xD
Roslovic was a 3rd liner who was holding out and Laine had made it clear he was deeply frustrated. And ready to force a trade. Jarmo and Chevy just swapped problems. Most valuable asset at the time was the 3rd round pick
@@Dorian803you still stand by this garbage nonsense take, after seeing what PLD was flipped for BY WINNIPEG?? The thing is, say what you want about Dubois, he hit a career high in points last year. He still continued to develop here... Unlike Laine lmfao...
@LSLS5555 - do YOU still stand by your "Jedi mind trick on Chevy from Jarmo" take... lmfao... 😂😂 It was funny when you said it 3+ years ago, it's funny now. Everybody here from 2-3 years ago was legitimately acting like this ONE shift from Dubois explained his ENTIRE career perfectly, Yet the CBJ fans didn't seem to understand some of Patty's worst shifts... Patty's worst shifts, both trying and not trying are FAR worse then THIS. Atleast Dubois was just coasting. Patty actively hurts your team defensively when he's on the ice. Unless he can just set up for a one timer on the PP, hes a liability. Goofs here wanted to act like Patty was just the world's greatest goal scorer of all time, who was simply "misunderstood " in Winnipeg, and Columbus managed to absolutely FLEECE us in Winnipeg. Welp maybe despite ALL of Dubois' issues, he CLEARLY STILL WAS the most valuable piece traded in this package, and the proof is ALL in the pudding... What LA gave up to get him. The fact Dubois is a FAR better 200 ft player then Laine, even givin' his effort issues... The one thing Laine as a winger was supposed to give CBJ was more goals, and in theory more scoring/points generally then they would have had with Dubois in the lineup. Even the most basic way you could try and claim CBJ won this deal, you cant do it, because he didn't. If he's not hurt, he's still a liability more then he helps. And the proof is in the fact hes walking away from CBJ because they're losers, and he's losing too much all over the ice, in every area of the game, to the point his confidence is fried, and he needs mental help because he's so fried and has NO answers anymore. It's actually kinda sad seeing all the hope CBJ fans had for Laine and a hometown boy in Ros... sad even the point about a year and a half ago, where you can see CBJ fans started to try and claim THEY won the deal, Because PLD was already talking about MTL... yikes... Can see not long after the attempted coping just stops entirely after that, until we get to now, where LA kings fans, and hockey fans in general are being reminded that Dubois is Dubois... But that's STILL better then Laine!!
Can't believe all the negativity in this comment section. I don't think he did this every shift. Columbus fans are now happy he's gone to Winnipeg now and Laine's coming to Columbus. Both weren't happy on their teams and needed a fresh start. I wish them both well and hope they both succeed with their respective teams. Btw Columbus fans, your power play just got ten times better.
@@brentsenior7830 to be fair, if i played under babcock i’d probably just hang out i our defensive zone all game and talk to our goalie about how much babcock sucks whenever i was on the ice
Looking at this a year and a half later, with all the context from the following two offseasons and drafts is darkly humorous. The breakup of the 2018 Jets and 2019 Jackets rosters will be forever linked in this moment. It didn't start either collapse and it certainly didn't finish them. But this is just symbolic of both. An artist couldn't have conceptualized a better representation of the overarching situations. This is Nero fiddling while Rome burned.
@@wagglewiggle not only is he not the “number 1 center” on the jets, he wouldn’t be on 75% of the nhl. Look across the league. Did you think this thru at all?
THIS type of comment needed to be said here WAY more. The amount of people truly actually acting like Laine had *NEVER* had a bad shift like this is just plain NUTS...
Reminds me of Eric Staal’s last couple seasons here in Carolina. He did the exact same thing problem was none of the fans realized what he was doing because they don’t know hockey lol
Yeah I totally agree. Everyone is so soft now. No one hits and even puts an effort in. It’s a disgrace. It’s only going to get worse once Torts generation of coachs retire and the soft kids take over as coach’s and GM’s. It’s gonna be full blown cutsie pies on the ice.
Dubois had a quiet shift where he played his position, got open for passes but didn't get a touch, when he did finally touch it, he lost it just as fast, end of an uneventful shift. My biggest issue is him signing a nice deal with the jackets and immediately wanting out.
Right man! I don’t know how everyone is criticizing and insulting him for “poor effort”. I’d also go off if I was getting frustrated and my teammates are selfish and idiots. Going to the bench doesn’t always mean you give up, it also means to regain your thought control and come back stronger and smarter in the next shift. He did the right thing, but damn, incredible stuff when teammates just straight up ignore him. Although he could’ve been aggressive with the hits and tried to go for picks himself.
WaterKingAnonymous This jerk lied when he said he would work hard and not be a distraction. He did neither. He deliberately did nothing. He then said he would do better, or perhaps his jerk agent told him to say that. He disrespected his team and coaches and the fans. He got what he deserved. Maybe the drama queen will eventually grow up. At least he won’t have to face Columbus fans during this season. Another Jeff Carter.
@@BM_2002 PLD: 16 pts in 24 Games. Laine: 14 pts in 30 games. Roslovic: 22 pts in 32 games. So so far, Columbus is winning the trade. And when Laine starts playing well, then yeah, this becomes a v bad trade for Wpg.
All the negativity towards PLD isn't deserved. Both Laine and PLD are better now. I wish them both all the best, they're both great in my opinion. Go PLD! Go Laine!
People seriously are overreacting to this. Four years of what he’s capable of is irrelevant these days because of one shift. Calm down people. It’s both his and Torts fault. This has been going on for months if not longer.
