On March 30, 1981, John Hinckley Jr fired six bullets at former US President Ronald Reagan in an assassination attempt he blamed on his obsession with actress Jodi Foster which developed after he saw her in Taxi Driver. He did not manage to kill the President, but he did paralyse former press secretary James Brady who died from his injuries 30 years later.
Piers Morgan has an exclusive interview with Hinckley Jr to ask how he feels now about the assassination attempt, whether he would ever try and contact the Reagan family, his mental health and whether he feels responsible for Brady's death.

He should have been diagnosed years prior but US health system is a joke. Assange should not be in prison at all, all he did was publish information including government war crimes. While Hinkley seems contrite, self-aware, and sincere, I too have an issue with his 'music' career. My issue is that Hinkley's initial act was to generate attention and fame. As a disaffected youth, shooting someone was one sure-fire way to get the attention he couldn't achieve through talent, charimsa or hard-work. Now as a mature man, he is again seeking attention. This is obvious through the following actions: 1 - not changing his name | 2 - actively wanting a public career in music (RU-vid and Live Concerts) | 3 - wanting people to know he is a changed man - why? My ragouts are, if he wants to use his notoriety for a good cause why not deliver lectures or create a movement for identifying mental illness, or lobby for gun control, or if he is cured, why not live in absolute quiet obscurity just working hard?

If Hinckley is being inauthentic, I couldn't discern that from this interview. I do like how, at the end, he acknowledged his being responsible for James Brady's death. A deceptive individual might have danced around it endlessly, but he owned up to it. I found him to be honest and candid. If the goal is rehabilitation, he appears to have achieved that. He now seems to be a humble an unassuming man, who sincerely shows regret, asking for forgiveness while stating that he understands if the families of his victims won't forgive him. And I think that this is why Piers treated him gently instead of aggressively.

You can tell he's drugged up by how much he's blinking his eyes but what happens when he decides he's sick of taking meds? Drug-induced blepharospasm (excessive eye blinking) is most commonly associated with neuroleptics, as well as dopaminergic agents, antihistamines, calcium channel blockers, and noradrenaline and serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Additionally, benzodiazepines and thienodiazepines can often induce blepharospasm.

It is great , he's taking responsibility for his actions .For example , he does not blaming his father . If he books any venues , in the future needs to keep them secret from everyone expect his fans . If the general public does not know , there be no backlash . He needs to find a way to give concert details , only to his fans . His concerts get canceled , after he announces them on social media . His last two where canceled after he announce them on twitter . He needs to stop doing that . If he is allowed travel internationally and has fans overseas , he should consider doing concert out of the country . He should keep those a secret , as well . He should never let the general public know what state , country or city he's performing in . The venues should not announce he's coming , either . He should get security , regardless . He should not even announce the venue after the fact , for their safety . He also should post videos of his daily life , on his youtube channel . In addition to that , he should do vlog series for holidays such Thanksgiving , Christmas , New Years and the 4th of July . On top of that , he should post videos of his friends describing the person he is , today . He needs to also do more on camera interviews , some including his friends . Other people vouching for him would help change more people's minds . For some people just hearing from him is not enough . He's also needs to do more on camera interviews , some including his friends . He should request full copies of any future on camera interviews , he does . Nightline and The Takeout didn't show his full interviews . When interviews get edited , portions get cut out . He should get also get copies of those full interviews as well as permission to post them on his youtube channel. By the way , I'm not on any social media . This is chilling. That he says he’s justified being released is unbelievable. And while he may be a changed person he’s still responsible for his completely reprehensible actions. If he truly is changed then his life would be better served in service to others not as a musician!
@benjaminroberts4646
@benjaminroberts4646 Год назад
I think the music is helpful to him and a sign he has changed. I don't know how to feel about him being out. I do think there should be someone monitoring him. And I do know Reagan forgave him that night as he lay in the hospital.

@@benjaminroberts4646 I didn’t say that he shouldn’t be forgiven, that’s really not up to me BUT as a citizen how do I know that he won’t stop taking his meds and go commit another crime? I’m a huge music lover myself and I play guitar. I agree that music has huge healing properties but if he was really contrite then he should be focused on helping others.

Im all for second chances. I think any person could find them-self in such a dark place where they do something stupid which they would regret for the rest of their lives. In a way such people can be a victim of themselves too. It can take 5 min to make a bad final decision and the rest of your life to regret it. I wonder if Bush regret the 1.2M dead in Iraq, or if Putin regrets the thousands dead right now based on their stupid decisions?. I have more respect for someone who realize and acknowledge the mistake they made than those who arrogantly continues and defend their decisions.
