Another excellent video. You summed up tempera and fresco very well-complimenti davvero!! I studied under Annigoni for nearly four years in the late 1960s-he was a real maestro and very intimidating (he threw me off the scaffolding once, while we were painting the fresco in the church in Ponte Buggianese. Man, that hurt, landing on the stone floor!!). He was also the kindest and most generous man I've ever met (he would have Annibale, his ancient housekeeper, throw money out of the window every day for the beggars and street people). There is a full length documentary film: Annigoni, Portrait of an Artist. The film plays up his violence too much, though (some painters are quite violent-what an acquaintance of mine calls the Caravaggio Gene), and doesn't pay enough attention to the paintings, but it has won awards. Tempera is an extremely versatile medium. It can be painted thickly, boldly and/or carefully (as Annigoni painted), or with cross-hatching (as the medieval and early Renaissance painters painted), and everything in-between.

The 1955 portrait of her late Majesty was a familiar sight in Hong Kong before 1997. I have been researching on this painting for a project and I found this. Very helpful video. Thanks to Mr Angel too.
