Things happen very quickly with horses. Poppy did stand on Sues leg but it could have been so much worse. Kirsty showed what good balance she had when Neo suddenly bolted.

I’ve watched it again. It demonstrates how quickly a calm situation can change and so how vital it is to wear a hat. The relationship you nurture with all your horses came into its own. Apollo badly wanted to join in but stayed with you and was a rock. But that was very frightening for all of you and great respect to the girl who came off.

My god , what a saint Apollo was, herd instinct tells a horse to follow them bolting horses, the fact he didnt do that was great, but on top of that he was so good as he waited for the horses to come back. So many horses would of played up, but all he done was call for them a couple of times . He really was amazing i was so impressed with Apollo . Fair play to the girls for getting back on and carrying on especially the injured one. This is something that can happen to anyone and a bolting horse is extremely frightening and hard to stay on . Im glad your all safe and sound but a big shout out for Apollo he was such a amazingly good boy to wait so calmly like he did and well done to you too Tara you was so calm yourself you handled it so well . My first fall at 10 years old was off a horse in a riding ring - i was cantering, went through the first bend, and he just kicked it into overdrive and bolted through the next turn (kind of like a barrel racing sprint) - being a young rider, I just froze up and pulled back on the reins then bounced out of my stirrups and went over sideways, landed flat on my back and whacked my head - knocked the wind out of me, and I was pretty traumatized/upset, but otherwise uninjured thanks to the helmet! I was a baby and didnt get back on, didnt help that my Mom watched it happen and came running to get me in the car and go home. BUT I did come back the next week, and the next, and ended up riding + competing locally for another 7 years! Took a long break from riding to do college/work stuff but I miss riding!

I kept on riding until I was 18 nevertheless and fell many other times but I was extremely fortunate to never get a single injury. Now that I'm quite older I'm much more aware of everything that can go wrong. Past year I began riding again after 14 years of not being on top of a horse. Fell off twice again unscathed. So glad Sue didn’t break anything and that -Elsa? Didn’t come off Nero/Neo on her bolt and even managed to catch and pony poppy back to you two. Equally impressed with your calm demeanor which assisted in Apollo checkin in and looking to you for direction . Exactly what you have worked toward as a side goal while training. It all pays off Tara. Again though your calm and confident manner have really helped shape and cement this as a herd leader of sorts. The key things I feel let’s a horse rider/ owner relationship down is m: lack of time spent with them in general. Stable temperament and calmness of mind breath and heart as well as a respectful trust.. By default, this means that no matter what is unfolding you don’t get emotional therefore you don’t yell scream and get animated, further solidifying the trust that they should look to you for the next move and go with it. Kudos to to you Tara.

🏇🍃🏇🍃Came across this video of the bolting horses with riders. After watching it, I was relieved to hear that all work out with the horses and riders being safe. ❤️ Love seeing how Apollo kept it together while at the same time trying to be vocal to the other horses. I can only imagine what he was saying to the other (2) horses. Congratulations to Tara for having Apollo who stayed calm through the whole time of regathering the horses & riders back together again. 🥰 Good job Apollo. 🤗🌿🏇🦋 Lynn 💜🇺🇸 ❤️💚❤️💚

OMG! That is awful! What caused her to bolt? Not that it takes much, does it? Really looks like she just decided it was a great place to gallop, and off she went. I’ve been left on the ground myself a few times. I sure hope her rider isn’t hurt too badly. Having a horse stand on your leg can’t be good. I’ve only had them on my foot, and that’s bad enough! But good job Apollo! And good job Tara keeping him in line and calm! Hope it all ended on a better note.

I've lost a stirrup on a bolting horse and you have to really hold on for dear life. Kudos to your friend for not just holding on but getting that stirrup back, that's hard to do! The horse I was on was running along a fence and of course the stirrup I lost was that side. Really thought he was gonna scrape me off on that fence! To this day I can't believe I didn't come off.

Well done Apollo, such a credit to you Tara. Sometimes all the effort & discipline in the world can't stop a bolting horse. These beautiful animals are strong, stronger than us & when determined to take off, they completely overpower any sense of communication & our desperate attempts to hold them back. Its especially hard when in a group & they follow each others will to bolt off with that herd mentality, some say try to turn them in a circular motion but its easier said than done, especially when on a bridle track with windy surroundings. I've had a few bolt offs & it can be pretty scary. Apollo was amazing ❤

Don’t do bitless:gives u a lot less control ..the thing is she was holding on by the reins and u have nothing to balance u ,rather then grabbing the mane, but didn’t look like she had much time in that instance. Could’ve been a lot worse..but bet she’s got a sore body. That’s your training tara, where u make apollo walk instead of cantering straight off.

Very well done all you ladies. 1. it was a good job it was a sandy road, 2. not a main road in sight, 3. Apollo behaved beautifully trying to gather his herd back together. Very brave of the girls to get back on and continue......it was certainly the right thing to do. Obviously the horses weren't injured so continuing would help to calm them down. A very anxious video, but also shows what can happen even to the best of riders.

I wonder if something from the pig lots scared the mare and she bolted? I just don't trust a bit less bridle. They act on pressure points, but if a horse is really scared they can run right through that. With a bit you have a leverage to turn the horses head enough to slow it down to gain control.. the girls are much braver then I would be!! For sure!! Hope she was okay!

My boy has no mane to hold, he's rubbed it all out 🤣 I just had to clamp with my knees and pull as hard as I could to get him back today, I was not coming off today. I have dodgy knees so it hurts to hold them off the saddle as you're meant to so he's used to me gripping with them, though my grip suddenly turned into a vice and he knew he was in trouble 🤣 luckily we were inside and it was only about 15-20m he bolted but he's an Arab, so it was a very fast 15-20m 🤣

I had a quarter horse when I was about 12 years old. She bolted on me many times. In fact, she bolted one time when the neighbor boy who worked for the barn to take care of the horses went to get her in the field. He only had a halter (first mistake), she took off so fast and ran into a tree and knocked herself out for a bit. Out of all the horses I've ever ridden in my life she was the absolute worst for disposition.

I forgot to add: When I was in high school I had a strange horse out for a ride, one we were considering purchasing, when he bolted when a motorcycle came roaring up from behind us, chasing the horse off the road and into the puckerbrush. I can honestly say that at 16 years old I was terrified, convinced that I was not going to be able to stop the horse, I was not going to live to be in my high school graduation that week (my sister was riding with me, and it is the only time in 70 years of memory I have ever heard her screaming hysterically in fear!) . All I remember clearly , 60 years later, is that I knotted my hand into the mane so thoroughly that my grandfather had to cut the mane to get my hand out. The other hand was holding onto the saddle horn, by grabbing through the tree to get a longer lasting hold, as I fully expected to lose my seat, and come off being thrown up against the yellow and white pine lodge poles and being impaled on the broken branch stubs, hanging there like a victim in a horror movie! I admire Sue for the way she kept her composure, standing back up and starting to look for her horse right away, as the most important issue. And though she was obviously limping and, if the one contusion which was visible is indicative, looking like she had been put in a rock tumbler until she was all the colors of the rainbow, along with being very sore and stiff. I'm not sure how she found the movement to remount in the field, especially on a standard English saddle without assistance! Kudos to Sue! She has my full respect and admiration. And she is obviously a true and dedicated equestrienne!

@@thewildbruce5612 I was the fifth (or sixth) generation of a family known for its involvement in preserving the purebred Morgan bloodlines, so yes, I had many more. And my competition preference was the titled 'Open Hunt,' closest to current cross-country. Sixty years later, I can relate the incident, and even fund it funny. The fright was a shock reaction, as we had been abundantly assured as to how quiet and calm the horses were - my sister and I had ridden through much more serious occurrences before, and after, that 'ride.' But, when you were mounted on a horse which, until then, I thought needed a serious dose of caffeine, my sister's shock heterodyned mine, and we both responded notably out of type. Fortunately, it occured out-of-sight of my family, as my sister and I would never have lived it down. Occurences after that includes having a prospective purchase fall off the side of the path and land with under her (I still have her shoe imprints on my thighs as she stood on my legs to get back up); a stallion who was more interested in the neighbor's mares we were riding by than he was in his rider; a gelding who was so unhappy about being pulled out of the pasture that he laid my sister's leg against a 2-strand electric fence to convince her to go back to the pasture, and many more. So, yes, I tried out and the family purchased (and, of course, all of my personal eventing companions) many more until I was forced to stop riding by a pedestrian auto accident's injuries. Never underestimate shock value causing totally uncharacteristic reactions ☺️

I know thry have tiny brains, and instintive reactions, but horses who grow up n the wild, (as n mustangs) might flinch, shy sideways ,or leap forward , r less likely to fullon bolt, i discovered, once , u gain their trust.
