I've had one of these years and I really dig it. The OD section actually works great by itself as a clean boost in to a distorted amp for maximum modern br00talz
I love it! My brother Collin has a limited run custom paint Disnortion I had the privilege of using a few years back. So sick. I was using single coils with it and it rips amazingly with them as well! It may be a pretty big pedal, but damn it packs the crunch and vibes inside
i used to have one of those! the overdrive is the weakest bit of it, imo. if they replaced that circuit with a straight ahead tube screamer, it would be so much better. the fuzz and octaver are delightfully bonkers, though and totally worth the price of admission! if you haven't tried one yet, see if you can get hold of a foxrox zim, with the ts on one side and the muff on the other. gorgeous pedal.
One of my favorite oct up fuzz pedals a lot years ago was the Studio Electronics Wolftone Chaos (now is from Malekko), then was the Crowther Prunes & Custard, now i got a Multiwave
Sounds killer and definitely a texture tone. To me the overdrive sounds like Electro-Harmonix Hot Tubes Nano, but less tight and a little more scooped.
I use my Disnortion in the loop of a Boss MS-3 split into a pair or Princeton Reverbs. Most of the time though, it's going into a Marshall DSL20 with a 2x12 cab. That's a doomy little rig.
Hey LT. Thats some groovy sick tones your getting out of that device. You think Dug Pinnick would use one of these? Just purchased the complete Ragdoll collection off of bandcamp. Thanks again for the music! Cant get enough Ragdoll.
That's funny because my friend who owns this pedal specifically said he loves it on bass for the Pinnick thing! Thanks so much for picking up the tunes too, I hope you enjoy them.
Shape 3 fuzz plus the Octava gets kinda those FZ-2 electric wizard vibes... All useful shit imo. I want one. Also if you like a driven-ass fuzz, some time when you get bored drop a Precision Drive model or a Fortin Grind or some shit in front of an OR120 or Matamp model dimed out. Utter filth.
@@albertkotze8974 wish i had the real damn thing to fuck with but you can do it in Helix/Helix Native w/ the OR80 and Precision Drive models, was what I was thinking of when I posted this.
@@shealeffler6147 I run my Laney GH100TI with a SD-1 running on 13.5v (makes the boost much more aggresive) with the level all the way up, tone at about 2o'clock and gain just high enough to hear an audible level boost. The Laney is kinda Matampish, very thick, loose bottom end and MASSIVE EL34 power output and distortion, but with a lot of preamp gain aswell. Voicing is somewhere between a hotrodded JCM800 and a Orange Rockerverb (to my ears). The idea of a Matamp with a Grind in front is kinda similar, and really excites me. I think it would sound amazing, would probably be great for slow, filthy old school death metal, hardcore, doom and sludge. Would probably be great for any heavy music haha.
@@albertkotze8974 absolutely. Fucking yep. The Rockerverb/JCM sound is totally different from every OR120 model and demo I've ever heard, tbh - my 2013 OR100 twin-channel gets closest to that sound but some time soon I'd like to put in an order for a GT120... Boosting an OR/Matamp style thing (including my Kuro T120 matamp preamp-in-a-pedal, which is utterly fucking fantastic) gets this amazing low-mid fuzzy growl which is still very clear. If you have access to a Helix or Helix Native, I highly suggest you try the Horizon Drive block w/ the Mandarin 80 amp. It'd give you a good idea of what it does :D Maybe some time I'll try dumping the AxeFX's precision drive model into the T120 and seeing what boosting the shit out of it would do.
Omg yessss, that's exactly what I was searching for! I picked up a used one for a good price yesterday and can't wait to test it today. I recently purchased it because it's according to the guitarist Erik from Slomosa in combination with and ocd drive and a Vox Ac30 their incredible awesome sound! But besides that I really really love the fuzz and octave combination for some really heavy doomy riffs. Sounds like ur playing bass to your riffs at the same time! And it can also handle the sound of The Sword in combination with an Orange Cr120 nearly perfect 🎉 That's one of the best pedals for stoner and doom ever! Can't wait!
Well done LT! Kinda old school! High school couple blows bubblegum and says, " We gave it a 3, We could dance to it!" Thanks for sharing brother and Be Well All!
I love pigtronix pedals...they used to be considered overpriced but the used market has not been good for them...this is very much a poor mans life pedal. Also I love the aria, philosophers gold, the polysaturter and the war pig....but I hated the design of 5 knobs and a switch on a tiny pedal and the in/out jacks all on the right side...it never made any sense.
