Pilatus PC-24 Extreme Winter Weather Take-Off

The 100th Pilatus PC-24 LX-PCE is seen taking-off in extreme winter weather. Heavy snowfall, gusting winds, freezing temperatures and very low visibility hits Bern in Switzerland. Pilatus aircraft withstand every type of weather and bear any temperature. In the background, a PC-12 is seen taking-off while the PC-24 is waiting at the holding point. The super versatile jet has even off road capabilities and can easily operate from unpaved and very short runways. But it is still breathtaking to observe the PC-24 flying in such harsh weather conditions. A beautiful female Common Kestrel was standing on the airport fence, waiting for better weather.

Nice catch in some weather. As I've stated before: Thank you for making me feel like I am actually at the airfield! Not all flights can wait for a clear blue sky day! Nice touch showing the little bird at the end. She shakes off the snow with her built in de-icing system. She's ready for "known icing conditions"!

I've had the pleasure of flying out of this beautiful location which is the Pilatus "home field." Went flying on a PC-12 while doing acceptance inspection on a PC-6 several years ago. The Swiss see the weather, accept it and fly in it......what a way to look at flying.

Awesome catch Matt! This PC-24 looks excellent in the Jetfly livery and the heavy snow conditions made the video even better. It’s impressive how capable Pilatus aircraft are, especially the PC-24 with unpaved runway capabilities.

Thank you! The icy winds gusts were bone-chilling. ❄️🥶 ❄️ But it was definitely worth it to see the amazing PC-24 taking-off in such severe weather conditions. My car was broke down due to this extreme cold weather. The assistance and breakdown service arrived after waiting over an hour in the freezing cold. ❄️❄️The car was brought the nearest garage and is meanwhile repaired. When I arrived at home I enjoyed a big hot chocolate to warm up 😃 Cheers!

Hi Ryan, I well remember the Flying Doctor Service's PC-24. The livery is absolutely awesome! The icy winds gusts were bone-chilling. ❄️🥶 ❄️ But it was great to see the brand new 100th PC-24 taking-off in such extreme winter weather!

@ryan which area do you live in? currently VH-VWO, VH-KWO and VH-FMP fly for Western Operations and only VH-FZQ for Central Operations. on saturday 23.01.21 all three were seen on their shift at Karratha airport, that is certainly also rare that there are 3 different ones on the same day

The assistance and breakdown service arrived after waiting over an hour in the freezing cold. ❄️❄️The car was brought the the nearest garage and is meanwhile repaired. As soon as my Euromillions cheque clears, I will definitely add this and the PC12NGX to my bucket list. The STOL, grass landing capabilities means I could land anywhere in the American Outback for a pit barbeque, a street party in Mexico, the Garba ceremony somewhere in Gujarat, some food market in Phuket for street food...an impromptu walkabout with my Sheila in Queensland...the cargo door also means I could bring a toy or two aboard the big toy or the wife can easily load her entire wardrobe in 20min. Can't beat Swiss Precision, for everything else, one can still dream on, you don't need 10 million dollars..😁😁

Thanks! Yes, the PC-24 has outstanding off-road capabilities! It has been certified to land on dry sand and gravel, but complete rough field certification allows the PC-24 to land on additional surfaces, such as grass, wet earth and snow. So I would definitely set on my bucket list too :) Cheers!

That ending was a nice touch, with the Peregrine falcon! 👍 If I had the cash, the Pilatus would be my first choice for a short haul jet, what a beauty. I love the Falcon too - I mean the 8X, for long-haul, but the bird was a beauty too! 😁

@@matthiashaenni Damn! You really have been suffering Matt! My sympathies on your car breaking down. I hate that. I too had a car problem last week when I hit a deep pothole that I didn’t see, completely wrecked my tyre sidewall. Not impressed at all! And I can tell you that 265/35/20 tyres are not cheap! I shall attempt to claim it back from the local council, we will see what happens. I hope you get yours fixed okay and it’s not too expensive.

@@allenmurray7893 A hot chocolate is a drink with hot milk mixed with cacao or any kind of chocolate powder. I usually mix it with Ovomaltine, a typical Swiss chocolate which also contains vitamins and minerals. Cheers!

Thank you! I was dressed in the thickest, warmest and most weatherproof winter clothes, but the icy winds gusts were really bone-chilling ❄️🥶 ❄️

Wonderful footage Matt and the Kestrel footage added that bit extra. You would wonder what is so important that the Jet`s crew were obliged to take off in such foul weather in a tiny jet. ?? Can the Boss`s meetings not wait until the weather clears ?? I would not have flown in such conditions.

when you trust your instruments and plan your route and keep updated weather real time then IFR / IMC is no problem

If you like spending moments like this outdoors and shooting PC-24s, I have a suggestion: the flying ICU N827HB, based in Utqiagvik also known as Barrow (Alaska) would certainly look even better in contrast and the weather there would be worth at least two more layers of clothesIf you.
