She grew up 16 years with that name. She’s only known herself as carter so to her that name probably represents who she is as a person. Her personality, clothes, hobbies, childhood. I can see it being disrespectful from her parents and grandparents perspective. But if you look at it from Carter’s pov that name is like the only thing she knows.
