Interesting to see what the Barrio of Pilsen looked like back in the 80's . I grew up in Fruitvale Barrio of Oakland Ca in the West Coast could never imagine living in a place with so much snow lol I can also hear the narrator Chicago accent. I went once to Chi Town in 2005 interesting city I went to Pilsen and La Villita had a great time out there. 1 love from Oakland Ca.
This had to have been in the winter of '88-89 because the library opened in the summer of '89, it was a big deal at the time. Man brought back a ton of memories! We lived in Bridgeport but would come out there on the weekends especially after going to La Garra aka Maxwell st
Lived on Cullerton and Carpenter streets near Devorak Park in 1962 - 1964. Attended the 2nd and 3rd grades at St. Procopious Catholic school before I moved back to Texas. Came back to Chicago in the summer of 1973 and have been here since then. I remember Del Farm quite clearly along many other stores and one five & dime store in that area. Your video brought back so many memories. Thank you.
my grandma was one of the last Bohemians/ Czechs living on throop in the late 80's..I used to go to that church's chicken when I was little cuz I didnt know what all the mexican food was back then and thought they wouldnt be able to understand me in there ...lol. You could walk around 18 th , B. I. , etc during the day..all the ambrose didnt come out till at night, then theyd all be on the corner.
Cool to be able to walk back in our old hoods. Survived.i go back all the the to my block EC Indiana. Times change . New people come in. Usually crime goes up even more etc. Houses n buildings remain the same
You did an excellent job on this video! Thanks Bro! My Mexican Fam came(1950,s) to 18th from South Chicago-East Chicago-Saginaw Michigan-1926 Guanajuato. Viva Abuela Cuca!
I lived around that neighborhood back in early 70's on Troop st when I was around 7 years old. I remember watching Enter the Dragon at that movie theater with subtitles.

It’s really a shame for all the Pilsen residents to see the new changes that Pilsen in going threw, such a Chicano neighborhood back in the the days and now it’s all yup-pied out. To many investors coming in and forcing resident to move out.... it’s exactly the same thing that’s happening to the Humboldt park neighborhood!
That's now the world works buddy. It also used to be Polish, oh well. Things change. I'm Hispanic and grew up in Pilsen since the 90s. I prefer it now than when gangbangers would be hugging every corner.
Ya people still live in those apartments. I'm close to the milagro family and my dad owns the building next door. El Guero across the street got knocked down and now it's just a vacant lot.
Ah this made me cry and ahhh it touch me. So much I'm 14 and this is woah. I'm like the time has fly. Is just ah.. I wish I saw this. Ah i hope they put store that won't change. It's sad. Like I Know some of these places
Had a female that stayed on 18th and Cullerton and they threw this New Years Eve party and ran out of some kind of liquor and me and one of the FOLKS said we'd go to the store and get it but they was like NAW! I think the store was on 18th and Racine and we had our shit cocked to the right and we noticed this car across the street from the store with a bunch Latino brothers in it and by the time we came out the store they was on our ass! They spared us though, they just made up take our hat's off and said that if they see us again they would cut our hearts out frfr!!! Turned out they was BISHOPS
@@ggv4541 1983 going into 84. Gangbanging for real, not these girl jeans wearing boy girls who'll shoot anything moving cause they can't fight for shit ni**as that's out there today. Somebody pleeease hurry up and invent that time machine and take me back to 1980 and leave me there. SMH
