Maganda kase ang FA-50 in terms of plotform palang.
hahahahaha for maintenance palang di na kaya did you know na from the 12 fighters that became the current fleet only 5 are air worthy, u should consider not only the price tag of each unit but the maintenance as well, what's the use of a multi million dollar jet if it can't even takeoff
Finland is in the line because of their large order of FA50 and Black panther tanks. They probably saw the effectiveness of the FA50 on dealing with ground targets during the battle for marawi.
Di ata tuloy Ang F16 due to short budget. Ang alam ko Gripen Ang napapagusapan from Sweden which is on par or even better than F16 pero mas mura. Correct me if I'm wrong na lang.
Very impressive contents and details. Respect!!! Also the expert discussion on the comments are the most impressive!! Just to add my 2 cents worth, 4-5 months after the upload. 1. Royal Malaysian Air Force signed up to purchase 18 FA50 Block20 (ish) with further 18 as option. One key addition was KGGB, Korean Glide Guided Bomb kit for 500lb dumb bombs (or even KGGB+ for 1000lb/ 2000lb). These costs roughly $80-100k but increases dumb bomb range up to 130km. 2. The below discussion re PAF operation rate was due to complicated issues (late order, lack of forward looking maintenance program, budgetary constraints etc). As a result KAI has provided extra assistance in forward planning and working to reduce the budget constraint. The good thing is, F16 parts and all other parts prices are skyrocketing (some parts more than doubled in price in last 12 mths), FA50 parts prices are holding pretty well. 3. FA50 and its variants have total production (produced + contracted) of close to 400 units at the moment, of which at least 100 is to be produced in the next 4-6 years. The scale of economy is kicking in and all orders are seeing the benefits in cost reduction for new orders and parts. Having said that, Block20 program cost from RMAF is close to $60m per unit vis-a-vis $35m fly away cost 5 years ago. The inflation in materials etc is biting. This may be the last window for anyone to tag along with large production batch to reduce the acquisition cost. 4. FA50 is a light combat aircraft. Its role, functionality, capabilities are different from medium combat system like F16, Gripen NG. The program cost is less than a half of the medium weight system with 70-80% of the capability. The weapon suite is very similar to F16 series (especially with Block20 upgrades, US has agreed to integrate most of the weapons used on F16) including Aim120C, Aim9XL. If the host nation were using F16, F15, F18, the interoperability would have been a great advantage. Given the recently announced US bases in Philippines, interoperability with USAF would be an invaluable asset. For example, PAF may not purchase Aim120C but can train with the USAF and when the shit hits the fan, PAF can always borrow from allies. 5. There has not been an official details re engine upgrade. The latest demonstrated otherwise. The latest report out from Korea suggests to keep F404 and not follow the path of Gripen NG which priced itself out. Also the benefit of FA50 is a trainer + FA. KAI announced a single seater and that might use F414 but not clear. 6. Finally, in ASEAN, 4 countries would be using FA50 and variants. Realistically only 5 countries would qualify to purchase it. The only one opted put is Singapore. When the territorial water dispute with China escalates, this interoperability would be an invaluable asset as we have seen from Ukraine. eg when PH gets into hot waters, the rest can lease their FA50, parts, weapons etc without directly getting into the conflict. China would have to recount PAF capabilities not as just PAF but RTAF + RMAF + IAF. This is a huge strategic asset. If this ‘political understanding’ can be placed before any conflict arises, China will have to think longer and harder before taking any actions.
AIM 120 and AIM9XL sidewinders are not finalized, this depends on AESA radar - only Phantom Strike has AIM 120 integration as package. Other radars are not integrated. BVR missiles are still not decided as they're all depended on radar, and SoKor will providing their own BVR missiles - this also means AESA radar must be Korean AESA radar otherwise American AESA radar vendors won't provide free integration, it will cost. ETA's AESA is another option - this might be cheaper option than American AESA as they also offers flexibility of integration with BVR.
Good presentation. Just so you are aware, the EL2032 radars in the FA-50PH are already qualified to fire the Python 5 and Derby ER BVR missile. The easiest upgrade path for the Philippines is to equip their existing fleet with those two missiles and order another 12 -24 Block 50 models with the full suite of weapons capability. Having an advanced MRF with capabilities you can’t use isn’t smart. You don’t have Air to Air refueling capabilities so having a fleet of FA-50s means commonality in parts, logistics, training of air crew and maintenance personnel. The biggest problem with Philippines defense assets is lack of parts, maintenance personnel and training due to the way they do purchasing. A few of these, a handful of those etc, means that there’s no commonality in the entire logistics and training pipeline. Other modern air forces stick with one asset and maximise its usage and make sure they master it and have 85% availability rates, before getting other assets. The Philippines has 12 of these, but only three are flying. Imagine introducing another MRF into the mix, the same issues will happen. Maximise this aircraft and master it and you’ll have a way more effective Air Force. You should look at also getting a basic AWACS aircraft like the Erieye on a small turbo prop as a force multiplier.
Hi Trevor are you involve withbthe Philippine defense air asset? Thanks for sharing on what you know about the air force's asset. Well being proud of these aircraft is not good for Philippines defense. As you have said there are only 3 of it flying? Why? Is it because of budgetary concern? Let us know. Thanks
Actually there's at least 6 which is able to fly, the other 6 is still under mandatory maintenance, but it does'nt mean that it's already not functional, due to delays of deliveries of spare parts and engines, that's the very reason why we have limited available FA-50 in our skies.

@@MonkeyDZuki the reason for the delays are due to lack of forward planning by the PAF. They should know the lead time for parts, and they will also be aware of what parts are going to be timed out based on projected usage. I worked in Defense Management and I am very well aware of how you plan ahead to avoid these issues. It's not like a Toyota Dealership with parts sitting on a shelf and you just pick up the phone and they're yours in 24 hours. These things need to be ordered months ahead of time. And most militaries have a stockpile of parts that they've pre ordered. Clearly not the case here.
Considering the threats posted by the PLAAF against the PAF I think there is a need to shift strategy within the Air Force while also being rationale in both defense and budget. The FA-50 is an ideal Multirole LCA which could both perform territorial and internal security operations. The FA-50 can supplement the future MRF either the F-16V, JAS-39 or KF-21 deployed closer to high threat environment such as Antonio Bautista Air Base in Puerto Princesa, Palawan for either interception or maritime strike operations. I personally think there is a placed for the A-29B although I don't think the PAF needs 24 just around 16 with 48 FA-50PH (16 for used as an LIFT) and 32 as LCA.
FA-50 Block 20 is Light Multirole Fighter that can engage adversary MRF due to upgrade of its fire control radar to ELM 2052 AESA radar, addition of BVR capability & Sniper Targeting pods, Rafael's Sky Shield EW/ECM pods, Condor 2 Reconnaissance pods and new power plant GE F414 afterburning turbofan with increase in payload and in loitering time due to addition of refueling probe and conformal fuel tanks.
Cool observation unfortunately still not enough. In order to down an enemy MRF they should be at least within range and we currently don't operate AIM-120 or any medium range air to air missiles. BVR capabilities is nonsense without an armament that can execute a "Beyond Visual Range" performance. We're currently with a Block 10 version and if they do upgrade it to Block 20 as they say. Our government should arm them accordingly, otherwise it'll just be a waste of money.
Well, only because what we're using is the old version of the FA-50, plus wala pa tayong MRF, so hindi advisable bumili ng Medium to longer range weapon systems, dahil ang platform natin e walang BVR system, at Targeting pod system.
Ok yan mag upgrade nalang muna at lahat ng bibilhin in the future mga FA50 nalang muna.
Thank u s videos very informative. Mas nappreciate l ngaun fa50. Tutal may Fa50 n tau block 10 n lng bilhin ntn for additional logistics ng air defense.
The ROK Air Force has operated 34 airframe-reinforced f-16 block 52+ aircraft since 2014, and this aircraft is an upgraded version of the block 32 aircraft operated since 1990. And this aircraft is no upgrade program for block 72. From 2032, when 120 kf-21 block 2 units are completed, this aircraft maybe provide to the Philippines Air force.
In a low treat environment,, the super tucano can provide the same ground support role just like in the Marawi seige. Horizon 3 of the AFP modernization program intends to have jet fighters that will defend the EEZ and other territorial waters of the land and if possible beyond EEZ into International waters when necessary. In open high seas the single engine gripen can provide less. We now need a twin engine aircraft to fly over rough and unpredictable seas. With a refueling tanker, the F /A 18 hornet c/d variant is very much needed.
Gusto ko malaman if. Un block 20 pg air to air mission how many a2a missile pwde nya dalin kung may dlawa n syang aim 120 s wingtips ngaun pde nb lgyn ng side winder un ibang hard points? Kc may nabsa ako n un current n mern tyo or un base model eh un s wing tips lang pwde ilagay un side winder so meaning dlwang missile lng ang mern ang fa-50 each time kht n pito ang hard points nito. Tama b?
Only Malaysia&Poland has been confirm and approved about having FA50 Block 20 from KAI South Korean..Other country not so sure, maybe rumors talk or still in nego process
the philippine airfare should have a military satellite or ground radar linking the combat management system to your FA50. So that in combat, information from radar/ satellite can be relay to FA50. Launching of missiles- fire and forget to enemy aircraft at a distance of more than 2000 km can be achieved. the United States Air Force can kill a target beyond 5000 kms away.
Yes that is grate idea useless for more plane without eye more radar and satalite to upgrade the visual range and accurate deployment for counter measure by air trait and defence strategy but air land sea
nice one ....but the fact remains ..no matter what the upgrades are,,these are short legged birds,, with relation to our domain..we have a few airforce bases around the country..if the goverment goes for these units ..we need more facilities around the nation ..enough number of airframes..fuel depots, base defenses ground personels ..more early warning radars..and lastly we need less corrupt leaders..lol
No need to buy expensive platforms because the upgraded variants of FA-50's can perform 70-80 percent of F-16V capabilities. The remaining 20 percent pertains to weaponry to be carried.
