Très bonne video pédagogique. Je ne comprend pas les explication verbales car "i don't speak english " mais la qualité de la démonstration permet d'en saisir le sens et cela est l'essentiel. Bravo !
there is a lot of applications in any kata u r working on and u don't know unless u work on it and itosu sensei was also a body guard for the emperor I do believe and there is a good amount of bunkai in all of the pinan katas
Say what you want about George Dillman, but he started this trend of the greater amount of American and European instructors REALLY trying to decipher and interpret realistic bunkai. They used to say you wound up to block and had you intercepting multiple punches and kicks simultaneously from multiple angles at the same exact moment. He started off legit and kinda lost his mind, but he absolutely opened the floodgates of trying to make sense of Kata that seemed like strings of beautiful nonsense.
Only 2 minutes into the video and I already have a question: Tetsui is actually not the very first technique in this Kata, it is the second. The first one is a circular swipe motion with your right hand that is immediately followed by tetsui with the left hand. My question is: what happened to the swipe motion done with the right hand? Also about gripping: why grip the Gi? Daily clothing is by far not as rigid as a Gi, so do you really think you can keep youropponent from retreating while grabbing onto e.g. the sleeve of his shirt? I highly doubt that. The distance from which your "opponent" attacks in this demonstartion is very big. I find that to be a little unrealistic, very often the distances in bar fights/street fights are only half of what can be seen in here. But on a plus side I highly appreciate your effort to make it at least halfway realistic by showcasing some non-fancy stuff. I especially like your interpretation of the Shuto Uchi at the end of the Kata.
Would be more beneficial if you turned away from the attackers dominant hand. Out of the firing line for his attack. Face on leaves you exposed to a takedown. Overall bunkai can be affective if using the rite angles
Hi Sensei; to say that the volume is low; very difficult to understand what you say. I tried with the subtitles but is a joke. Of course I can visualize the stuff but always important what details are mentioned. Thanks
Only Pinan III & IV are based on Kusanku, Pinan I is based on Channan (per Motobu), Pinan II is an original Kata created by Matsumora on Itosu's request, and Pinan V is based on Bassai-Dai. Hope this helped :)
DId any one listen to what he said in reference to environment. staicase elevator or against the wall. listen clearly and the judge. a real martial artist observes in every way. judgeing with arrogance is your own fault and weakness. This application can gain advantage when applied in a small space or from against the wall the. not all fight take place in a parking lot or in the woods. If your bunkai is better then make a video on it. like bruce le said use what works and discard the rest and if this is not for you then throw it in the garbage.
Well, in Shokukai (and other Okinawan styles) it's the 2nd kata a beginner learns. In Shotokan it's the first. So it is very simple, but very effective.
With all my respects is not Shorin-ryu you practicing? Maybe Shokukai is a federation but not a style:-) 'Cose I heard only about 3 main Okinawan styles Shorin, Goju and Uechi origineted from Shuri, Naha and Tomari-te. If I'm wrong please correct me.
1:50 "the kata isn't there to teach you how to fight" im so disappointed as to how lost karate has become to hear such dribble. It is the opposite kata is there to teach you how to fight but hardly anyone knows how the techniques work.
Unlike the Chinese systems Japanese Karate Bunkai has been pretty much lost. Most of the videos on RU-vid like this one are just based on the personal interpretation of individual instructors.
That's why people who study shotokan should look to Okinawan Shorin-ryu. The Okinawan teachers still have the proper applications. Also most of the stuff on youtube is total junk.
respectfully I have no faith in the Pinan forms. they're training kata created by Itosu Sensei for School children. I have more faith in Kushanku Kata instead
Ashihara Karate has more focused kata. Motobu Sensei battered Funakoshi Sensei for what he did to Okinawan Kenpo. If its that good why then is it not in Goju Ryu and Toon Ryu and others. Looking at the history of the Kata it was created for school students. Funakoshi is quoted at simplifying the kata for the Japanese Market. After 25 years in Martial arts with over 300 books in predominantly Karate based arts. I definitely am not clueless. I'm just not blinkered. They have validity because most of the techniques are found in Kushanku/Kanku Dai. This video was in my feed and I watched it because of that. The Sensei performing the Bunkai has my upmost respect as he is working on what he is taught. Im looking forward to seeing the same Sensei working on the Senior Kata like Bassai which has 14 neck breaks etc. Kyokushin and offshots are not toy Karate systems
