Pine Avenue on Anna Maria Island is one of the most frequently visited areas of Anna Maria Island. Pine Avenue stretches the width of the island and is a major activity hub for Anna Maria with an abundance of restaurants, dessert shops, specialty shops and more!
We begin at the Anna Maria Historic Society, located at 402 Pine Avenue. I had no idea we there was a jail cell on the island, and learning the history was really interesting. There is also the Belle Haven cabin, which I learned fell into the Bay shortly after being built, was pulled out and used as a home for decades. You learn something every day!
Located toward the eastern end of Pine Ave, the recently restored Green Village is a historic area that now features the latest in green technology. The entire village is powered by renewable energy sources and it’s very pedestrian friendly. It is home to the The Anna Maria General Store at 503 Pine Ave. This nostalgic general store sells everything you need for a great vacation on the island!
A quick drive thru the surrounding streets gives you feel for what the homes on this island look like. Many homes are new, but there are numerous well kept original homes, frequented by vacationers and some full time residents.
Last, we stop at The Donut Experiment at 210C Pine Avenue. This shop is locally famous for its delicious homemade donuts that you can customize with any toppings you want; this was my first time here and I chose the graham crackers with peanut butter and let me say, this place lives up to the hype!
