Makes me think of my aunt who just passed away. She loved to collect pine cones. I have her little collection on my table. I wish I could do something like this to preserve the pinecones she collected in memory of her. I took care of her for a year and a half. She had dementia. She fell last February and broke her upper femur. She did not recover from the fall. Oh how I miss her. I am still grieving over her. So this reminds me of her. Beautiful bowl!!

Do you remember the old log nut bowls with the nut cracker and picks in the middle. This pinecone bowl would make a beautiful nut bowl like that for the holidays. The older I get the more I remember the things Mom had when I was a kid.

I love this! It has an awesome 3-dimensional look and kinda makes me think of an alien planet with crazy flames burning up weird-shaped structures. At 27:47 the left pinecone even looks like an alien with one eyed face. Lol! I hope you do make this one again. It's really super fun!

Hey Doug, wow those pinecones look AWESOME in the bowl after you first turn. I love how we can see all the neat designs especially the ones cut in half. I really love seeing your moves from the top! Oh boy! The fun part! Turning the inside. Look at those ribbons fly! The inside reminds me of an old stereo speaker. WOWWWW the inside looks AMAZING! Love the orange logo. Hello again, great idea with the pine cones and it looks really great. Your equipment, with pressure pots and high-quality resin, is also impressive. However, resin is a homogeneous, very brittle mass, in complete contrast to wood, which consists of individual cells and fibers and can therefore be processed very well with a cutting tool. For resin you should use a scraping tool, e.g. a carbide tool. It worked better when you used your negative scraper, didn't it? And reduce the speed of the machine, too quickly tears holes in the resin. Almost nobody tells you stuff like that and it took me a long time to figure it out myself. Forgive my better knowers, I just wanted to help with a tip. Greetings from northern Germany, stay healthy.

Thank You, well personally I find the opposite works better for me, normally I don't use carbide, but I found it works better on the stabilized materials, I know negative rake anything works the best, anyways have a great week !!!

awesome colors, it's weird how the ones that didn't come out as expected look the greatest!. I had an idea. What about doing a clear or near clear pour with some brightly colored pencil-sized 'sticks' laid in at angles? the lighter or clearer the base pour might mean multiple pours with no demarcation line (or whatever you call in LOL). Or has it been done? Either way that bowl looks great, awesome work as always

So, in regards to the exothermal cracking you were showing about 20 min in. What will you do in the future to avoid this. Can you do multiple pours and put each under pressure? What was your shop temp when you had this in the pressure pot? Thanks

well I push my luck every time I pour a casting, and yes my casting are much better in the winter than summer due to temp, I can do multiple pours but that leaves witness lines that I do not like so I risk it and pour to much

If you use a waste block in the center does that help with the thermal reaction?

yes as it takes up space for less resin use, the more resin the hotter it gets

Doesn't total out make a deep cast epoxy? Nice work, guess I prefer wood with minimal epoxy.
