PING G425 DRIVER - REVIEW
In this video we will be reviewing the new Ping G425 Drivers.
Ping have just released in the UK the new Ping G425 Drivers and have 3 heads to choose from. The standard MAX 460 driver has some new features which gives you a blend of G400 Max and the G410. The LST 445 model is the low spin option where as the SFT 460 gives you straighter drives and can offset that ugly slice shot that many want to reduce or loose altogether.
I will take you on a journey with my thoughts on looks, feel and performance along with details on what this product is all about direct from Ping.

always surprises me when golfers complain about the noise a club makes......i wouldn't care if it made the sound of a hub cap falling off a citroen 2cv as long as it did the job!!!

I agree - I play the G410LST and don’t even notice the sound. I couldn’t imagine it being a consideration when buying - my ears obviously aren’t that sensitive! Each to his own.

@@uy7535 Sound is feel. Tested many times many times by putting headphones on golfers. They have been able to make a hard club feel soft by pumping a different sound into the headphones at impact.. Look it up.

@@station2station544 While I think it might be generally true that better players are more concerned about sound, that might be because they can perform well with many clubs and so can be more concerned with aesthetics, which sound plays into. I’m sure it can affect how some players perceive feel. But some people are just less sensitive to sound off the club face, or else like the sound, which may be one reason why there are tour pros using drivers from each manufacturer.

I've been playing the G425 Max for a couple of months and you never really get used to the noise. Loudest driver I've ever hit and quite a bit louder than the G400 Max I was gaming before.

I bought the G410 Plus last summer, but due to lockdowns I only got to play once with it...... when I saw this pop up today I was mildy miffed with the new tech coming out, but then I heard you hit it. I'm not so bothered now!

Does putting the weight to the heel in the max achieve the same results as the SFT weight in heel? Would be good to see a video showing the max with weight in heel and weight in toe to see changes to flight?

Played the G400 Max before moving to the Srixon but was never a fan of the looks. Couldn't play the G425 which sounds terrible .

@@petekenny3774 it’s proportionate, so I carry it around 210 with my G400. I wouldn’t want to be giving up say 15 yards. I would go with the Max

Like the review. Still gaming the g410 and it performs. It will take a while before I change I think. I have been working on my swing but I'm as long as I was in my 20's and I just turned 43. I was fitted and I'm a little wiser now lol.

Nice clear info & review, you could do with sorting out the iso on the camera, very grainy, nearly disappeared into background on the data read.

Why wouldn’t you just buy the Max and move the weight to the draw position? That way you have a little draw bias and if your swing changes you aren’t left with a hooking machine? The SFT is also way shorter than the Max.

Coming from a Ping G LST, I just picked up a Ping G425 LST. Unfortunately, I'm in Canada where it's winter and it's in lockdown so I can't go to hit it for at least another month. Anyone else go from these two drivers? Cheers

Love the look of these drivers but they sound loud...also have all new drivers peaked. Is there and any gain for a £400 driver over a 3 year old driver

My bet is that a Ping G20 would be just as good. That’s not a criticism - it’s just that you’d only see real gains if you middled every shot. With handicap golfers strike patterns the older Pings were plenty good enough.

Currently game the G410 sft, and to be fair probably dont need to be changing it, but alas I, like so many others, am a Magpie, the new G425 excites me, specifically the Max, especially having seen your review, I feel I can trust your opinion as obviously you come across as a very straight forward guy! As soon as allowed I will be having a fitting! Cheers, and keep it going, you will definitely hit 100k this year!

Great review dan but I think the picture quality looks terrible on the inside of the review contrast looks way to high or something might be the background with grey and black tiles grey top grey clubs 🤔

Hi Dan, I have got the G400 Max, Thats a bit loud, but i like that sound, i always know if i have caught it ok with the sound it gives me, if the G425 does the same i would be ok with that. When are we getting the new G425 irons, ?

I play a G400 Max and the new G425 driver looks quite similar. I'm interested to see the what the new TaylorMade driver will be like but for the time being I think I'll stick with my current driver and try and concentrate on improving my game rather than upgrading - perhaps next year...

I bought a fitted G410 Plus last September and it's great, I don't find that the head is small, although it might be comparing to the G425 Max. Also I don't generate a lot of spin, so moving to a less spinny driver is going to hurt, not help. I will try the new G425 when I get a chance, but I can't think it will be enough of an improvement, if any, for me personally. Good review though Dan, lots of info, thanks.

It's pretty amazing how bad the sound is because Ping has said they are using complicated calculations to make drivers sound better. Now G425 Max will be a beast with 4gr of hotmelt and a lighter backweight.

Great detailed review Dan. I am waiting for the opportunity to try these at your residential coaching week this year. Problem is, when it comes to numbers, I can play the ball a little further back and neutralise the swing path for a lower "safer" flight or place it further forward, increase the tee height and play the higher launch draw bomber. These would need a Professional's input regarding playing patterns so I am waiting for the chance later this year to get some coaching and input from you and the team. Really enjoying your style of reviews.

I'm a bit late to this video. Why would anyone play the SFT? It's 30 yards behind the others. Why would you willingly give up this distance for a few more fairways. I'm a ping guy and am shocked how short that SFT is. I can't see why anyone would play it ever

@Dan, with the Max in the lower loft it seems like you squeezed out a little more distance due to a little bit higher ball speed than the standard loft? Spin was actually slightly higher on the lower loft but there’s probably nothing in that. Also what loft did you use in the Max and LST on the course? Love the variety of testing though! 🙌🏼

Good review, however… not a mention of the shaft. From the video I assume you were using the Mitsubishi Tensei AV Orange 65. This is a criticism I have with most RU-vid reviews. The shaft can make a big difference in the performance of a driver, or any club for that matter, yet very few reviewers even bother to mention the shaft being tested.

Whats the point of the Sft when you can move weight to draw bias on the Max anyway??

I'm guessing the moveable weight has less effect on the CG moving as the weight is not as much. The SFT CG is probably more heel side than the adjustable models in draw setting.

That's the loudest driver I have ever heard... I had a Nike driver that was so loud people 3 holes away used to look round... That sounds like it will be anyone on the course will hear it.... Not for me just on the noise pollution

Dan toying between the max & sft head question is would you have sft lofted down slightly or does that fight with the draw setting ?? Max 9* head lofted up or sft 10.5* lofted down , I leave face a little open through impact

Very nice review from 3 years ago. Now that the Ping G 425 MAX has dropped way down in price with the G 43Os selling currently I have finally gotten around to buying the G 425 Max. Worth the wait.

My 2 cents. In March 2021 I was fitted for g425 Lst. It’s now September.. from the beginning I wasn’t a fan of the sound . But… ball speed is 155-160. My carry is 275-290. I’m hitting way more fairways,& my handicap was 15, now 11. To sum up, I don’t give a shit what it sounds like,the performance is unreal.

Telling that they was 50yards in dispersion on the LST from left to right, compared to the MAX. For me it's worth giving that 2 yd average distance carry for the consistant grouping.

Dan, bit late to the party on this one so you mightn't see this. Maybe I missed it, but you don't appear to have mentioned, in significant detail anyway, the elephant in the room. I can't imagine any serious golfer would want to play a driver that is 30 yards behind its compatriots. Surely hitting fairways is not so important as to warrant such a drop off in distance?

Great review Dan which is what we are after because when you visit your golf shop it’s usually all about the sale and not always about which driver suits us weekend warriors best. Might now upgrade my G30 sft to the G425 sft after listening to your honest advice thanks.

Ya know I was just setting here watching this and began thinking about the sound issue you spoke about. It would be interesting to get a dB meter and measure sound pressure of the strike. And a spectrum analyzer could be used to find the the peak frequency of the strike sound. It's probably useless information but it would be interesting none the less.

I have the LST in my bag at present at 10* Tensei pro orange 60x in the fade setting I can hit bullet fades with it. I really like it, great club

Great review dan honesty with how you feel with each driver also inside and outside and yes I think it important to get a handicap golfer to try them out and the sound reminds me of one of the old cobras I used to have you could hear that across the course and the guys knew I was on the range when they turned up for our game lol I do like the look of them certainly on the list for trying out when we can
